The trend of nabbing projects before they are even released in book form continues. Paramount has picked up the rights to New York Times Best Selling Author Libba Bray’s upcoming novel The Diviners. This news was given to us by The Wrap.
The book wont be released until September, and it the first of four novels. The story is set in the 1920s, and it "follows a group of young New Yorkers with mysterious powers who play a dramatic role when a series of occult-based murders begins to terrify the city."
“The Diviners” will be published this September by Little, Brown Books and is the first in a four-part book series.
All in all it sounds like a decent story. I guess we will have to wait and see what this series has to offer. Anyone excited about this? Let us know what you think.

Books have been a mainstay in Hollywood's never-ending search for film ideas, and while the adage "you should read the book" will never leave the mouths of frustrated moviegoers, a few more tomes have been picked up for film adaptation. As usual, there may be a few who are disappointed.
Young Adult fans might be familiar with author Libba Bray's "Gemma Doyle Trilogy," but probably less so with her upcoming "The Diviners." Set for release in September, "The Diviners" is the first of what will be a four-part series that will follow Evie O'Neill, a young New York transplant, who must use her mysterious powers to stop a series of occult-based murders. Since the book has yet to be published, we're sure that there's not many who will be bummed that their favorite book might get compromised on its way to the big screen. Still, those eventual fans might...

E.T. phoned home, but where is everyone else? Moviefone catches up with the cast of Steven Spielberg's classic tale of suburban fantasy upon the 30-year anniversary of its release.
This year is going to be seeing a lot of Spike Lee joints, from "Red Hook Summer" to a documentary about Michael Jackson's "Bad" album and a one-man Broadway play starring Mike Tyson (and maybe even finally getting on with the remake of "Oldboy"). GQ chats with the fiery filmmaker in an exclusive interview.
Planning on catching "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" on Blu-ray? Film.com thinks you might prefer the similarly-titled "Ghost Writer" to Nicolas Cage's latest kooky Johnny Blaze adventure.
It was a novel of historical fiction (or was it?), then it was a movie, then it was a ... comic book?...

Next up in the seemingly-never-ending (yet soon-to-end) line of young adult acquisitions is The Diviners, an upcoming novel that Paramount and Fake Empire will put some bets on. The four-book series is written by Libba Bray, who’s already on track to both scribe and executive produce a first film that, should all parties get their way, will start a franchise. [Deadline]
It’s common knowledge that most young adult books, whether good or bad, have a plot slightly derivative of some pre-existing story — in this case, my ears get rings of old-time Chronicle. The Diviners, set in 1920s New York, follows Evie O’Neill, a recent transplant whose “mysterious powers” put her at odds with occult members inflicting terror and murder across the city. With the help and assistance of some like-minded citizens, plans formulate to stop the group from wreaking more havoc.
The set-up for that is actually kind...

Paramount Pictures has plans to bring Libba Bray's upcoming novel to the big screen with Bray herself attached to provide the adapted screenplay. The book, the first of four planned volumes, is set for release in September and is officially described as follows: Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City--and she is pos-i-toot-ly thrilled. New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult--also known as "The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies." A couple of weeks ago, I sent the following message to this year's Cannonballers:
Now that summer is here (yes, I know not technically, but as far as I'm concerned summer begins when June does), I am thinking that it would be good to have a theme for some of the Cbr posts this summer: Summer Reads. I don't know about you, but summer vacations-especially when I go to the beach-are when I have some of my best opportunities to finally make a dent in my reading list. And I often make a trip to the library before heading out on vacation. I'd like to be able to give the Pajibans a bunch of recommendations as they may be looking to add to their summer reading lists.
Of course to do this, I need your help. I would like you to send me links to any reviews you've written for...

Four Torches (Out of Five) Girl power, indeed! The Gemma Doyle Trilogy, the series of Ya books by Libba Bray that includes A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, and The Sweet Far Thing, is flat-out terrific. The books tell the story of Gemma Doyle, a teenager in Victorian England whose is sent to a boarding school after her mother dies. The school and most of its students may be painfully repressed, but the building also contains a great secret: a connection to a land of magic and free expression called "The Realms." Soon Gemma and her three friends are traveling back and forth to this place of wonderment, determined to save the world from its growing dangers, not to mention solving the mystery of Gemma's mother's death. Oh, and Gemma is also having a steamy romance with a hot gypsy man.
I'm not at all surprised that these books...
