Jon Huertas was in Puerto Rico when he learned that he was suddenly unemployed—the series he starred in, Castle, had just been canceled by ABC after eight seasons. As a seasoned actor, he knew this was par for the course. But little did he know that what was coming up next for him would change his life and his career. Huertas went on to land the role of Miguel Rivas on the NBC hit This Is Us across the show’s six seasons, and through that new opportunity, was able to make his dream of becoming a director a reality.

The Pearsons may be gone, but they’re certainly not forgotten. A whopping 19 “This Is Us” cast members have been submitted by NBC on the 2022 Emmys ballot, including all of the core adult family members. That number includes three lead performers: Sterling K. Brown as Randall Pearson, Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson and Mandy Moore as Rebecca Pearson. In years past, Justin Hartley as Kevin Pearson has also dabbled in lead, but for this final season he’s competing in supporting. One fan-fave guest star was not submitted on the Emmy ballot and thus cannot be nominated: 2017 winner Gerald McRaney, who returned in the penultimate episode as the ghost of lemonade-loving Dr. K.

NBC finally drew the curtain on its hit-series “This is Us” on May 24, 2022. The series finale of the tear-jerking drama series aroused gloomy reactions across the board — fans and casts alike, “This is Us” is our favorite thing.
The words of William Hill’s ghost to Rebecca Pearson in the final episode sums up how we all feel. “The way I see it, If something makes you sad when it ends, it must have been pretty wonderful when it was happening.”
Pretty wonderful might be an understatement when describing a show that held its audience spellbound from the moment its trailer was released online — nearly 80 million views within two weeks.
In its first season, the multiple award winning family drama series averaged 15.3 million viewers. And even though the figures have dropped over the years, there are still a few shows with such a cult following like “This is Us.”

Miguel Rivas is a lesson in patience. When the character, played by veteran actor Jon Huertas, first appeared on This Is Us, fans weren't sure what to make of him. After all, he was introduced as Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) best friend who went on to marry Jack's wife Rebecca (Mandy Moore). A tough situation for anybody to make a decent impression. With the show's May 24 series finale rapidly approaching, Jon is taking time to look back at Miguel's less-than-steady, but ultimately fulfilling, journey. "I think Miguel is always in the moment. It's great about his character. He doesn't expect anything to go as planned or to go perfectly," Jon said in a This Is Us...

Spoler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Miguel,” the May 3 episode of “This Is Us.”
“Miguel over the years,” was the simple description given for Tuesday’s “This Is Us,” the fourth-to-last episode of Dan Fogelman’s NBC family drama. While accurate, that logline doesn’t do the hour, aptly titled “Miguel,” justice, as it’s really the day-in-the-limelight installment fans of Jon Huertas’ Miguel Rivas have been waiting six seasons for — and also the one in which the character dies.
The episode shows viewers Miguel’s origins in Puerto Rico, how he came to Pennsylvania as a boy with his parents and aunt, how he first didn’t get along with his best friend Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) wife Rebecca (Mandy Moore), and how years after Jack’s death, Rebecca and Miguel found their way back to each other, this time as romantic partners. Aww, a son after his mom’s heart.
Sterling K. Brown posted a heartfelt message on Instagram that not only served as an excellent promo for the last few episodes of This is Us, but also was a wake-up call to Emmy voters. It’s time, Brown says, to give co-star Mandy Moore her due.
Moore plays Rebecca Pearson, the mother of Randall (Brown).
“This grown woman Mandy Moore … anybody who votes in the academy, anybody who’s got a say in what happens, Mandy Moore is killing the game, son. She is killing the game and she deserves to be recognized,” said Brown. “[My] fellow Aries, we roll deep, we roll hard and together, man that woman. Y’all, she’s eight years younger than me and she play my momma. There’s never a moment on set, where I’m like, ‘Mandy Moore is too young to play my momma.

The stars of This Is Us gathered at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Tuesday for the premiere of the drama’s sixth and final season, which will land on NBC on January 4. Speaking to Deadline at the event, the cast and crew dropped a few teases of what to expect in Season 6. Mandy Moore, whose character Rebecca Pearson last season found out she is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, said, “I think there’s a lot of reflection back on the past and making sure [Rebecca] imparts everything she needs to with her kids.” The show’s creator and executive producer, Dan Fogelman, also teased a look into how Rebecca and her second husband, Miguel Rivas (Jon Huertas), came together. “[It’s] a story we’ve always been excited to tell in the final season, and having done a bunch of that already, it’s really fun and exciting and lovely.

Through the years, “This Is Us” has welcomed countless big-name guest stars to its ever-growing family, with a whopping six being nominated at the Emmys: Ron Cephas Jones, Gerald McRaney, Brian Tyree Henry, Denis O’Hare, Michael Angarano and Phylicia Rashad. Jones and McRaney are the only two guest stars to take home trophies, but now Angarano is hoping to follow in their Emmy-winning footsteps.
Angarano first joined NBC’s family drama in 2018 as Nick Pearson, the estranged brother of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia). In flashbacks we see Nick’s early life with Jack and their service in Vietnam, while in the present-day story he’s known as Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and lives a mostly solitary life in his trailer. In the most recent fifth season, Angarano returned in the “One Small Step” episode in which fans saw Nick fall in love for the first time with his co-worker Sally at the animal clinic.

Castle was a huge fan favorite, but by the time the show reached season 8, it seemed no one was happy.
There were rumors of infighting behind the scenes, which led to fewer and fewer scenes filmed between the two leads.
Then Castle’s lead and supporting actresses (Stana Katic and Tamala Jones) were shockingly fired weeks before Castle Season 8 ended!
Fans were outraged, so much so that they began sending coffee sleeves to ABC with messages such as #SaveCaskett and #CancelCastle. Coffee was a symbol of love and affection between the two characters throughout the series.
The show’s fans wanted the series canceled rather than have it go on without their favorite couple.
What other show has had its diehard shippers root for its demise rather than see the series-long love story end and its main couple left to bleed out on the floor?
The fans got their wish.

Fans may be in for an even longer wait for This Is Us Season 5.
Actor Jon Huertas revealed the news on Wednesday.

“When we talk about the protocols and the guidelines that we may be following when we go back into production, it’s really kind of daunting to all of us. The actors, we talk all the time.”
“We have a crew of two, three hundred people who work in close proximity. We consider ourselves a family,” he said.

Rebecca and Jack Pearson have a love story for the ages. The fact that Jack dies young only makes their love seem all the more precious. That's why Rebecca's second husband is subjected to more than his fair share of hate by This Is Us fans. No one can fill Jack's shoes, and just the thought of Miguel trying is enough to spark outrage.
But something is shifting in season three.
Where once Miguel was viewed as public enemy number one, the more we get to know Jack's best friend, the more we love him. Season three of This Is Us is proving Miguel is the show's secret Mvp; it's just taken us all far too long to realize it.
So, what changed? Well, the show's reveal that Jack asks Miguel to look after his family if something ever happens to him helps add context to his character's early role in the Pearsons' lives.
