Green Lantern 'part of a new superhero trilogy leading to Justice League'

21 October 2009 6:15 PM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

A Warner Bros strategy for getting DC Comics heroes on to the big screen could finally be taking shape.

The news comes as The Times-Picayune revealed that production for the Green Lantern film is moving to New Orleans, which I reported on yesterday.

But the hidden gem was when the site added: "Green Lantern is expected to be the first in a trilogy of films focusing on DC's Justice League heroes - the others being The Flash and Wonder Woman - before uniting all three with fellow League members Batman, Superman and Aquaman for a Justice League movie."

Could it be that Warner Bros' new DC Entertainment unit, tasked with adapting comic book heroes into other media, is at last putting together a masterplan?

It's interesting to note that the previously-shelved Justice League: Mortal movie is now listed on Internet Movie Database as being in development and set for release »

New Social Network Cast Announced On Facebook, Of Course

20 October 2009 12:10 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

What's the best way to announce new cast for a movie about Facebook? On Facebook, of course! The Playlist tracked down a series of tweets and Facebook posts to discover that several young actors have been added to the cast of The Social Network, a movie already starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield. They're mostly names you won't know, so we may as well hear it in Sorkin's own Facebook words: "Rehearsals began yesterday for The Social Network. The ensemble cast includes Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Max Minghella, Rooney Mara, Dakota Johnson, Brenda Song, Armie Hammer, Josh Pence and about 20 others to come. Shooting begins Oct. 19th in Cambridge, Ma." 20 others? Good Lord, it's like the "Night of a Thousand Stars" for the under-25 set. Minghella will apparently be pulling a Hayley Mills and playing a set of twins, the Winklevoss twins , according to, of all »

Are you a young actor? Congratulations: David Fincher has added you as a friend on his Facebook movie, The Social Network. The Playlist dug around and found confirmation from Aaron Sorkin that Max Minghella (left), Rooney Mara, Armie Hammer, Brenda Song and many more have joined the cast of the Jesse Eisenberg-topped drama. No word yet on who each of them will be playing; for that, I suppose we'll have to wait for the results of their "Which Social Network Character Are You?" quizzes. [The Playlist] »

Adam Brody Talks Justice League

17 July 2009 4:14 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Supposedly, a Justice League movie is going to be made, eventually. The O.C.'s Adam Brody was set to play Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, in George Miller's adaptation of the famous superhero team. Brody flew all the way to Australia, Miller's home country and the movie's filming location, when everything fell apart. It wasn't totally unexpected, especially with Armie Hammer cast as Batman. Brody told Movieline:

We were in Australia, so we were halfway there, but sets hadn't been built yet, things still felt on the fence. So it wasn't a big shock to me when it didn't go. Before it, even, I totally understood the reasons for doing it and not doing it. I got both sides. At the time, I was like, "If [Warner Bros. doesn't] want to do this and they don't want to mess with Batman, their golden goose, then I totally get that and that's probably the right call. »

[DVD Review] Reaper: Season Two

7 June 2009 8:42 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Reaper opened its first season with a fresh cast, a great premise and a pilot directed by Kevin Smith; for all intents and purposes it had a sweet start. However, after the first 6 episodes it became clear that this show about Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison), whose parents sold his soul to the devil, had fallen into an unfortunately formulaic funk. It seemed like the show with such promise had devolved into nothing more than procedural wherein boy receives tool, boy reaps soul and the sidekicks provide some laughs along the way. Luckily, that slack didn’t stick.

Careening wildly off course in the latter third of the season by introducing the demonic couple Tony (Ken Marino) and Steve (Michael Ian Black) and establishing its own mini-mythos, Reaper found a new course and a new life (to take) with a terrific season finale; which is why Reaper: Season Two comes with such high expectations. »

"Gossip Girl" Casts New Love Interest For Serena

12 February 2009 11:14 PM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

"Gossip Girl" original Queen Bee has a new king. The show has enlisted a new cast member to play Serena van der Woodsen's newest beau.

According to eonline.com, The CW has confirmed that Armie Hammer will play European socialite Gabriel Serrano in a three episode arc toward the end of the season. Gabriel will first date Serena's friend Poppy Lifton before moving on to her.

The celebrity website also reports that the show will end in an "Anne Hathaway-inspired" plot. The storyline will be loosely inspired by the actress' failed romance with convicted embezzler Raffaello Follieri. Hammer's Gabriel may just be the Raffaello the plot needs.

Hammer recently played evangelist Billy Graham on the 2008 biopic "Billy: The Early Years." He will be seen next on the TV series "Reaper" as the Devil's son, Morgan.

New Beau of Serena Cast in 'Gossip Girl'

12 February 2009 7:20 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

First Dan Humphrey and then Aaron Rose and now, a European socialite. Serena van der Woodsen will get a taste of Armie Hammer who has been tapped to play the new love interest of the character played by Blake Lively in "Gossip Girl".

Hammer plays Gabriel Serrano, the character who has made a buzz earlier for being the kind of man that Serena has never dated before. Twist of the story, Gabriel has met Serena's friend Poppy Lifton first before moving on with her.

Writer Stephanie Savage previously described this character as "very well-traveled, part of the global elite. He's not a brooding artist like Dan or Aaron rose. He's definitely a grown-up, and that's something Serena is very attracted to."

E! reports that Hammer will join the show at the end of the season for three episodes. The show has aired 18 of the planned 25 episodes, meaning Gabriel will probably seen in a May episode. »
