Speaking to GamesTM, the studio’s General Manager Steve Papoutsis revealed that although resources are tied up with the soon-to-be-released Battlefield: Hardline, the creative team is still passionate about the cult horror IP.

With the window set to shut tonight, Visceral Games has unveiled a series of statistics for Battlefield: Hardline‘s ongoing beta test, confirming that over six million players logged hours into the early build of the cops vs. robbers shooter.
In tandem with the announcement, the studio’s general manager, Steve Papoutsis, assured fans that even though the game is a mere five weeks away from launch, the developing team is accruing important in-game data to enhance the multiplayer experience.
Now, I know what you’re asking yourself. We’re just five weeks away from the launch of Battlefield: Hardline, how could we possibly be acting on that feedback? Well, I can assure you we are. In fact, we’ve already been prioritizing changes for things fans are talking about. So you’ve still got a chance to be heard. The beta will end Monday night, February 9th Pacific Time.

Visceral Games is gearing up for Battlefield: Hardline‘s sophomore beta after the studio hinted that fans can look forward to new details relating to the second phase of testing next week.
From this point on, Visceral will also host a weekly blog — aptly titled “The Season” — designed to provide updates to eager players on the status of the game coupled with behind-the-scenes videos. It’s clear that Battlefield 4‘s tumultuous launch is still lingering in the mind of EA, but even still, providing players with close to real-time information about Hardline is a promising approach to take.
Moreover, Visceral Games has had its proverbial ear to the ground ever since the shooter’s maiden beta test, with the studio’s Steve Papoutsis writing an open letter to the fanbase to allay any pre-launch worries:

With Dead Space 3 having just launched today, there is a good chance that you have not even had the time to tear the plastic wrap off your copy to get a whiff of that intoxicating “new game smell”, let alone played though enough of it to know if you are interested in purchasing any downloadable content. That apparently matters little to Electronic Arts, as the publisher has already announced that you can extend the game with the Awakened Dlc pack next month.
Little is known about what is in the Dead Space 3 Awakened Dlc, however, Electronic Arts stated that it is better than the actual contents of the game because it contains the “franchise’s darkest chapters as the Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before”. Boutique gaming mag Kill Screen has posted a great developer diary with the audio team behind “Dead Space 3,” particularly detailing how the audio cues were captured (the screaming Necromorphs are actually sound designer David Lowmiller’s niece) and how and when the game engine decides to use them.
Visceral Games implemented what they’re calling the Fear System into “Dead Space 3”: everything in the game has a hidden fear value between 0 and 1. At a fear level of 0, protagonist Isaac Clarke is cool, calm, and collected; at 1, his heart is beating out of his chest, his breathing is haggard, Necromorphs are screeching, and the game’s score has degraded into “a symphony of destruction,” says executive producer Steve Papoutsis.
I think most gamers assume that a game’s score or soundtrack is relatively straightforward to implement: you record a song, slap it into the background, and move...

Over on his blog at the official Dead Space 3 site, executive producer Steve Papoutsis teased a bit of tasty news that some Dlc for the game is already in the works, and it's going to be riding the wonderfully dark side of the fence!
"The team is hard at work on a top secret additional story that will be coming in a few weeks,” Papoutsis wrote. “We're not saying much, yet - but think ‘disturbing’ to get your imaginations going.”
Papoutsis also mentioned “some Day 1 Dlc suits, like the Marauder, Sharpshooter, and Tundra Recon suits, that you might choose to pick up.” These come in addition to the N7 armor that was announced last week. According to Papoutsis the skins are “built for our collectors out there, who like to stand out from the crowd when playing DS3 in co-op.”

In a new blog post from Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis, he talks about what the development team has been doing in between the time the game was finished and will be available in stores. He also discussed the four unlockable modes that await gamers who complete Dead Space 3:
“What else can you choose to do? How about play DS3 in 4 unlockable game modes! Each mode is on-disc, and becomes available when you beat the game once. There’s New Game+, which lets you start a new game with all your upgrades and arsenal intact. There’s Classic Mode, which is for the DS1 veterans out there. It’s single-player only, uses “classic” aiming, and there’s no crafting – all weapons have to be built from blueprints, a la the original game. Another mode is Pure Survival Mode. If you like survival horror and resource management, this is the mode for you.

Visceral Games wants to assure "Dead Space" fans that the second sequel in the horror/sci-fi series won't break with the addition of co-op. In fact, they're hoping to use it as a way of adding to the mood and horror of the series by presenting unsettling digressions via new character/Isaac's co-op buddy John Carver.
In this video with "Dead Space 3" story producer Chuck Beaver, we get a glimpse into Carver's mind and his rapidly progressing dementia which will have an impact on both the story and the gameplay for the upcoming release. Some of the details from the interview: Carver and troubled hero Isaac's first meeting is a "harsh" one and that Carver has a connection to both the mysterious markers as well as the villain of the current installment.

Six new [terrifying] screens have arrived online from Dead Space 3, the upcoming third-person horror title from Visceral Games. While many fans of the franchise have voiced their concerns that the direction of the third installment may take a more action-based route as opposed to the horror elements that were so featured so prominently in the earlier games, the new screens appear certainly appear as though the upcoming game will be sticking to its trademark scare tactics.
Dead Space 3 producer Steve Papoutsis recently spoke about the how the developers managed to find a proper balance between the co-op action and the horror elements that have driven the popularity of the franchise.
“As for being alone and walking down a corridor on your own – you still have that in Dead Space 3. You can play the single player and you still have that. But now when you have another character in the scene with you,...

The Devil’s Cartel will be a complete reboot of the series according to EA. Alpha and Bravo are back… but there are some pretty major tweaks behind the scenes. The first two games were developed by EA Montreal using the Unreal 3 engine. This reboot, however, was made using the Frostbite 2 engine and it comes from Visceral Games who’ve pretty much been making Dead Space games for the last four years. The engine switch is curious as well since Visceral has its own in-house engine that it uses to make their games.
Steve Papoutsis, General Manager of Visceral Games, had this to say:
”Our goal with Army of Two The Devil’s Cartel is to apply our key design principles – immersive, challenging gameplay, intense narrative and focus on quality – to help improve a franchise we feel has always had a lot of potential. Featuring both online and split-screen co-op,...

Electronic Arts announced today that Visceral Games, the developers behind Dead Space, are currently developing Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The new game, which is the third installment in the Army of Two franchise, “re-sets the series” and puts players in the boots of Alpha and Bravo, two operatives from the Tactical Worldwide Operations (T.W.O.), as they fight through a drug war on the streets of Mexico.
In keeping with the first two games in the franchise, Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel will feature both online and local split-screen co-op gameplay, that will require players to fight as a team when their “objectives unravel, allegiances begin to blur and they face off against a ruthless opposition”.
Julian Beak, Executive Producer at Visceral Games, said that their plan for The Devil’s Cartel is to “refresh the Army of Two...

Visceral Games may have made changes to the franchise with Dead Space 3, many of which I have my reservations about, but one has to give them credit for the consideration that seems to have gone into their implementation. Much like the new co-op mode, it seems that the element of exploration that they have brought to the series is entirely optional – though that doesn’t mean it won’t be encouraged.
Talking to Opm, the executive producer behind the project Steve Papoutsis explained how exploration would be encouraged but not enforced.
“Think of the game having a variety of hubs, and then there are spokes that come off those hubs. Some are required for your alpha path or your A to Z progression through the game. You might find an audio, video or text log that motivates you to go find this place; you might be just exploring because you...

It takes a lot to scare a horror fanatic like myself, but I’ll be completely honest: Dead Space scared me like no other game ever has before. Visceral Games had such an amazing handle on what it takes to scare gamers, and even managed to still be terrifying while adding explosive action to the second outing. Will they be able to carry on this high standard of fear into the third iteration?
Check for yourself, as Visceral has recently posted a 20 minute video detailing new gameplay sequences, all narrated by producer Steve Papoutsis. More co-op sequences are shown, as are a few more single player examples. We also get a quick look at a few sequences that are shaping up to be pretty intense.
Get ready to hear phrases like “super awesome,” “pulping,” “super cool,” and “fricking cool” a ton of times, as Papoutsis’ narration is just a tad bit excited.

It’s an exciting time for Dead Space fans and symphorophiles alike this week, as Visceral Games treats us to our first explosive, disaster-stricken, necromorph-ridden twenty minute gameplay trailer for Dead Space 3.
Presented by Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis, the footage begins in the second act, Isaac having ‘discovered an all-new hostile environment’ leading him to an encounter with a brand new necromorph. We see Isaac traversing an icy, post-disaster no man’s land, taking us through a variety of environments and even a couple of boss fights.
You’ll see a lot of new features and set pieces, including the all-new co-op play. The pace seems decidedly quicker than what we’ve come to expect from the Dead Space franchise, the gunplay a lot louder and the action more frequent. There’s less listening to things crawling around in vents, keeping you on edge and a lot more just shooting...

Despite its name, the Wii U has so far made a rather commendable effort in terms of reaching out to the hardcore gamers that Nintendo had seemingly abandoned. With titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Tomb Raider rumoured to be coming to the device, and confirmed releases such as ZombiU sharing the hardcore spirit, every upcoming high profile game is currently being speculated to be coming to the second screen.
Dead Space 3 was one such title, but Visceral Games VP and Gm Steve Papoutsis has revealed, when asked by a fan on Twitter, that bringing the Necromorphs over to Nintendo was “not currently in the plan.”
Whilst notably leaving the possibility open in the future, it is difficult to see the game arriving at all if it isn’t upon launch. However, the Wii U is bringing some other EA sequels belatedly to the new console, so...
