Chicken Soup for the Soul, the parent company of Crackle and other streaming platforms, has reached an agreement to acquire production-distribution outfit 1091 Pictures for $15.6 million.
The pact calls for Chicken Soup to acquire the New York-based company for $8 million in cash and the rest in stock. The deal brings to Chicken Soup a library of movies and TV series as well as its own streaming distribution platforms.
Chicken Soup plans to merge 1091 Pictures assets with its Screen Vision division to enhance both companies’ ability to provides on-demand distribution options for independent filmmakers.

The purchase price of $15.55 million consists of $8 million in cash, $2 million in newly issued shares of Series A perpetual preferred stock and 375,000 shares of Class A common stock. The preferred shares were valued at $25 in the deal, and the common stock at $14.80.
In addition to creating a bulked-up specialty film distributor, the deal will provide a significant boost for Chicken Soup’s streaming operation. The company is among the leaders in ad-supported streaming, operating Crackle, Popcornflix and other services. The 80’s throwback movie charts the story of a never-famous teen Christian hair metal band which spends the summer of 1986 playing rock music meant to ‘make Jesus famous’.
Written and directed by Chris White, the film features Baumgartner alongside Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), Shawn Parsons, Rhoda Griffis and Claire Bronson. Pic is produced by Chris White and Emily Reach for Hair Band Glory, LLC.
1091 Pictures and Mpx have specifically negotiated rights around the films’ Nft and digital merchandising rights, marking one of the first market deals for these rights in the independent space.

Aldamisa International will commence pre-sales in the run-up to Berlin on the horror-romance Vivien Hasn’t Been Herself Lately.
Aldamisa Entertainment closed a deal with Neal Dodson, Corey Moosa and Zachary Quinto’s Before The Door Pictures to produce Brian Duffield’s directorial debut.
Vivien Hasn’t Been Herself Lately centres on a married couple as they struggle to survive against a supernatural entity. Aldamisa and Before the Door are out to cast.
