A Night of Horror International Film Festival, announces its first programming wave for 2024 today. Long known as Australia’s premier genre film event, the festival now takes place in the United States. This year, the festival’s 16th edition – and first in the US – screens from March 1-3, at the Micon Downtown Cinema in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Says festival director Dean Bertram:
To move a fest I co-founded in Sydney, Australia, back in 2006, to America feels surreal. A Night of Horror has long taken pride in being recognized for its excellence in showcasing the best and bloodiest new horror films from around the globe. And this year’s program is already shaping up to be one of my favorite line-ups yet. In the first wave alone are some of the most original, terrifying, and at times hilarious genre offerings that you’ll see this year: A bloody buffet of zombies,...

A found footage feature film, thought lost for over 20 years, is finally seeing the light of the projector booth at its world premiere this March.
Kerry Prior, acclaimed Hollywood special effects artist and the visionary director of the cult horror hit The Revenant, lensed the found footage film The Blare Rabbit Project in 1999. There is still some mystery as to why that film – once set for commercial release – was suddenly pulled and apparently lost for over two decades. But now, the re-found, found footage film is having its very first public screening at the 5th annual MidWest WeirdFest, which runs March 5th – 7th, at the Micon Cinema in downtown Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Says writer/director Kerry Prior:
The Blare Rabbit Project has been a ghost that’s haunted me for years. Due to either the tragicomic debacle that stymied the release of the film, or the rumor of bootleg copies floating around,...

Says festival founder and director Dean Bertram:
The world has never seemed so weird. Neither has MidWest WeirdFest’s program of cutting-edge cinema. It’s filled with alien abductees, serial killer victims who can’t die, real-life dinosaurs that still live in the Congo, Lovecraftian fish people, mystically empowered but inept ninjas, an erotically twisted re-imagining of Edgar Allen Poe, and a dystopian fungal pandemic that makes Covid-19 look like a cake-walk… and that’s just from our first wave of feature film programming.

Says Peter Marcy (pictured above), the director of the horror feature film Attack of the Tattie-Bogle, that screened at the 2018 event:
MidWest WeirdFest was unforgettable. Festival director Dean Bertram was a pleasure to meet and a champion of our movie. Leading up to the fest, he maximized anticipation and got us a 25-minute podcast interview, two reviews by critics, a newspaper article, and tons of social media exposure. The fest itself was great. The venue had an old theater charm that I thought had been lost forever. The crowd was warm and enthusiastic and gave some whoops and applause when the end credits rolled. We had a...
