The 2021 Tribeca Festival, presented by AT&T, has today unveiled its short film lineup, which includes 46 films from 20 countries worldwide, 70 percent of which are world premieres. The short films will be presented in eight programs: two documentaries, two narratives, two hybrids (including both narrative and documentary), one animation, and one New York shorts program. Additionally, the festival will feature a special curated out-of-competition Juneteenth program and a live performance by Blondie, following the screening of the short film “Blondie: Vivir En La Habana.”
As the festival announced late last month, this year’s event will “transform prominent locations into an expansive 12-day multi-screen outdoor celebration” held June 9 to 20, and is believed to be first major North American film festival to mount such an in-person event. Director Jon M. Chu’s long-awaited “In the Heights,” adapted from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, will open the 20th anniversary edition of Tribeca...

A big hit at Horror Channel FrightFest, we chat to Danny Morgan about the upcoming horror, Double Date...
London-born actor/writer Danny Morgan (Off The Hook, Ideal, On The Road) had a very good reason for turning to the horror genre when it came to writing his first screenplay. “I thought that was a genre I could do something in, because there are so many crap horror films. I thought ‘well, it’s not going to stand out horribly if it’s completely terrible’. So I went into it with a good frame of mind!”
It’s a characteristically self-deprecating remark from Morgan who, along with director Benjamin Barfoot, can rest assured that Double Date is one of the funniest and most entertaining British horror comedies of recent years. Following screenings at Karlovy Vary and Edinburgh, it brought the house down at this year’s London’s Horror Channel FrightFest,...

For huge fans of Strictly Come Dancing, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
For the first time in the show's history, people who aren't soap stars or singers are being given the chance to pull on the sequins and partner with a Strictly professional, performing in the ballroom in front of millions - all in the name of charity.
11,000 people applied to take part in The People's Strictly for Comic Relief, but only these six were chosen...
1. Trishna Bharadia & Aljaz Scorjanec
Age: 35
From: Buckinghamshire
Trishna, who is a Multiple Sclerosis and disability fundraiser, tells DS that she loves Strictly Come Dancing. She has the programme on series record, and watches the show every week with her sister.
"We'll always try and guess what the judges' scores are going to be and all of that stuff," she explains.
And she's a "big" fan of her partner Aljaz, who she'll be dancing a jive with.

Stephen Merchant has apologised for poking fun at sufferers of autism in a TV interview on Friday.
Ricky Gervais' comedy partner sparked complaints with his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where the host asked if Merchant's role in new movie 'I Give It A Year' was written specifically with him in mind.
Stephen Merchant caused a storm on Friday with his off-the-cuff remarks to Graham Norton
He replied, "Yes, he wrote the role of a sort of socially autistic nerd who always says the wrong thing."
Merchant came under fire for the remark, with autism-awareness campaigner Anna Kennedy telling Britain's The Sun newspaper the comment was "disgraceful".
The 38 year old has since issued an apology, insisting, "I'm sorry if it caused offence."
