Tracy Morgan paid tribute to his longtime business manager Mark Landesman on Wednesday, admitting, “I don’t know where I’d be without you, bro.”
Landesman was recognized with THR‘s Business Manager Icon Award at its annual Power Business Managers breakfast, where Morgan, his client of 20 years, presented him with the honor.
At the podium, Morgan joked, “Whenever I want to buy a new Ferrari, Mark is always here to say, ‘No, Tracy.’ If it wasn’t for Mark, I would’ve had 26 Ferraris and a terrible tax problem.” He also teased he’s previously asked if he could buy the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building and the Staten Island Ferry — the last of which he was told, “No Tracy, my other client Pete Davidson already owns it.”

CAA’s Ted Chervin joined The Hollywood Reporter senior business editor Ashley Cullins on Wednesday for a keynote conversation at THR’s annual Power Business Managers event to discuss the intertwining of Hollywood and the sports world.
Chervin acknowledged that there’s been a breakdown of barriers between sports and entertainment, and even within entertainment itself, because of “a combination of the democratization of information with social media and other ways that people have of accessing both information and opportunities,” as well as the realization that sports is, essentially, entertainment.
The success of Ted Lasso and the resulting increased American interest in soccer was one such example, as Chervin — who counts Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence as his first client — recalled that when trying to sell the show they encountered “a lot of skepticism.”
“Nobody wanted it: Netflix passed, Amazon passed, HBO Max passed, Apple bought it I would say reluctantly.

CAA’s mega acquisition of ICM Partners has been completed after nearly 10 months of seeking regulatory approval, CAA announced on Tuesday. The deal is valued at 750 million with a pro forma combined enterprise value of around 5 billion, TheWrap has learned.
A source adds that 105 positions from ICM across all areas will be eliminated as part of the transition, while 425 ICM staffers and agents will be joining CAA.
The merger between the two 46-year-old rivals leaves just three major talent agencies in Hollywood — WME, CAA and UTA. The deal also marks the largest acquisition of its kind since Wma and Endeavor merged in 2009 and WME acquired the sports marketing giant Img in 2014.
“Today marks a new chapter in the history of our company, positioning us better than ever to deliver extraordinary opportunities for many of the world’s preeminent artists, athletes, thought leaders, brands, and organizations in entertainment, sports, and culture,...

CAA has closed its acquisition of fellow mega Hollywood talent agency ICM Partners, the companies said Tuesday.
The deal is valued at 750 million, resulting in a pro-forma enterprise valuation of 5 billion for the enlarged agency. The closing comes nearly a year since the deal was announced in September 2021. The transaction was delayed due to increased scrutiny from the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission as M&a fervor rages in Hollywood.
The official closing of CAA’s acquisition of ICM marks a shift in the Hollywood agency landscape that reduces the Big Four agencies to the Big Three, with WME and UTA as CAA’s largest competitors. It is also likely to result in reductions in staff at CAA and ICM Partners — which together total more than 3,200 employees operating in 25 countries — though no details have emerged yet regarding layoff plans.

Exclusive: Dan Baime, an ICM Partners agent of 25 years, partner and co-head of the Production Department, is leaving the agency business to segue to management. He is launching his own management firm, Intenta Management, with his long-time client John Cena as Intenta’s first client. ICM agent and partner Lara Sackett has been elevated to assume Baime’s role as co-head of the Production Department alongside fellow co-heads Paul Hook, a longtime fixture in the field, and Janet Carol Norton.
Baime, who came up through the ranks of the ICM production department, has held an unusual dual position; he also has been Cana’s point agent for the past 18 years, after signing the then-twentysomething wrestler outside of the ring. In a close relationship that somewhat resembled that between talent and manager, Baime navigated Cena’s ascend to a highly marketable movie and TV/streaming scripted and reality star with a string of endorsement deals.

The talks that led to CAA acquiring ICM Partners came together in secret over a short period of time — so much so that longtime insiders at both agencies learned of the deal moments before the news was formally announced on Monday.
To CAA’s trio of leaders — Bryan Lourd, Richard Lovett and Kevin Huvane — and ICM Partners’ chief Chris Silbermann, the fact that the talks were kept quiet was a sign that the leaders are temperamentally in sync and trust one another. The deal was finalized Monday at 8:17 a.m. Pt, barely an hour before CAA issued the news release, the key players confirmed.
“It’s a testament to the reason for the partnership” that word of the talks didn’t leak, Lovett told Variety.
Lourd conceded that the idea of a tie-up had been broached in the recent past. During the past 12 months, amid all the upheaval in the entertainment industry,...

Updated: CAA has made it official, this blockbuster deal we have chased all weekend. Find release below the original Deadline scoop.
Exclusive: Creative Artists Agency is acquiring ICM Partners, a mammoth deal that would be the biggest joining forces of two major agencies since Wma and Endeavor. Expectation is that the deal will be completed before the year is out.
Many details need to be worked out, as this came together lightning quick. There will surely be reaction from guilds and on antitrust matters. But in a moment where content creators are getting bigger in M&a deals, why not agencies? The intention here is, after all of the drama of the pandemic and the ending of the packaging business after a prolonged dispute with the WGA, CAA is doubling down on its commitment to the representation business. That includes not only film and television, but also sports, publishing and ancillary businesses.

ICM Partners is building out its sports representation business with the purchase of Texas-based NFL specialists Select Sports Group.
ICM’s move to buy Select Sports comes nine months after it acquired the largest soccer agency in the world, Stellar Group, with some 800 clients, most of them related to soccer. At the time ICM Partners leaders vowed to pursue bolt-on agency acquisitions that bring distinct skill sets and operate under the ICM Stellar Sports banner.
Financial details of the transaction with Select Sports were not disclosed. A source confirmed that the deal is a complete buyout with money changing hands and Select Sports becoming wholly owned by ICM Stellar Sports. The agreement calls for Erik Burkhardt and Jeff Nalley, Select Sports co-heads and owners, to become co-presidents of the ICM Stellar Sports’ NFL representation division. Reggie Johnson, an NFL agent who joined ICM Partners in 2017, will now work with Burkhardt and Nalley on gridiron representation.

It's the end of the line for Suits.
USA Network has renewed the legal drama for a ninth and final season which is slated to enter production later this year.
The biggest surprise is that the order is for just ten episodes, marking the lowest episode order yet for the series.
Suits is midway through its eighth season, which resumes this evening. The series has survived the loss of leads like Gina Torres, Patrick Adams, and Meghan Markle, but all good things must come to an end.
Suits Season 8 is currently averaging just over one million viewers, and a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demo based on live + same day measures.

One of USA Network’s signature series, Suits, will be coming to an end, but not before getting a final chapter. The network has renewed the legal drama for a 10-episode ninth season to air in summer 2019. The news comes ahead of Suits‘ Season 8 winter premiere tonight.

This story first appeared in the Oct. 17 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Exclusive: On Wednesday of last week, ICM President and heir apparent Chris Silbermann confided to senior staff that he was leaving with several key ICM execs including Ted Chervin and Rick Levy and starting his own Hollywood TV agency. In no time the buzz was all over the tenpercentery. That also meant it reached the ears of the founder of private equity investment firm Rizvi Traverse Management which since 2005 has owned a sizeable stake in the full-service ICM. On Thursday morning, Suhail Rizvi personally confronted Silbermann and asked if the ICM No. 2 exec was leaving or not. Silbermann denied everything, claiming that he’d never said it, that it was just a rumor, and that he was going nowhere — for now. But the fact is that, for months, my insiders say Chris Silbermann, the former Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency partner, has been loudly and regularly threatening to leave ICM...

Now rival tenpercenteries are in hot pursuit of 2 more ICM reps: TV lit agents Josh Hornstock and Mickey Berman whose deals are up in 5 months and who are considered good manpower. In recent news bites, two primetime shows hand out promotions, while an ex-Hells Angel says FX took him for a ride.
It seems Dunder-Mifflin may not be escaping the grip of new owner, Sabre, anytime soon. NBC tells Zap2it that Zach Woods, who plays Gabe, has been promoted to a series regular on "The Office." He joined the cast this past season when Sabre installed him as their eyes and ears. Of course, the awkward Gabe has had a hard time breaking into Michael Scott's (Steve Carell) inner circle, but maybe next season he'll crack that nut.
"Private Practice" has officially added another shrink to their fold. ABC confirms to us that Brian Benben, who plays Sheldon, is now officially a regular for next season. Sheldon has been playing the office's sloppy seconds - first with the damaged Violet (Amy Brenneman) and then Pacific Wellcare nympho, Charlotte (KaDee Strickland...

Mike Jelline, a rising star agent at ICM, has been named head of the agency's TV talent department.
The 33-year-old succeeds veteran ICM agent Leigh Brillstein, who has stepped down as chief of the department while extending her deal as senior vp at the agency.
ICM president Chris Silbermann said the leadership transition "couldn't have been more easy and natural."
"Leigh has been grooming Mike as her successor for years," he said. "Mike was already doing a lot of the department running; he is a natural leader."
In his new capacity, Jelline will report to Ted Chervin, ICM's head of worldwide television. Additionally, he will report to Toni Howard, executive vp and head of motion picture talent, "in recognition of the fact that there is so much fluidity between the worlds of film and television in today's marketplace," Silbermann said.
Since joining ICM in 1997 as an assistant under Nancy Josephson and Risa Shapiro, Jelline has built a solid client roster of actors on established and buzz-worthy new shows across all broadcast and major cable networks.
