A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, she did talk about the making of the film (and the metal bikini she had to wear in it) during an interview with Collider.
Lutz said she had a great experience working on Red Sonja, getting the chance to do stunts and horseback riding, to work with Bassett. She added, “What I think is different from what we know...

All’s quiet the night before Christmas, but John Woo is ready to enter with a bloody bang.
Woo’s first U.S. film in 20 years, “Silent Night,” stars Joel Kinnaman as a dad who witnesses his son die on Christmas Eve amid a shootout. The almost dialogue-less film co-stars Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, and Harold Torres.
The gritty revenge tale follows a tormented father (Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.
The original screenplay is written by Robert Archer Lynn.
“It was a very smart script and the story really touched me [because] I have three children,” Woo told Entertainment Weekly. “The biggest challenge is...

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production last year with director M.J. Today The Hollywood Reporter posted an interesting article about how Red Sonja was able to escape from development hell… and it basically boils down to a director’s enthusiasm for the material and a producer’s desperation to get the movie made.
The 50-something Bassett says she has been borderline obsessed with Red Sonja since her childhood, and “I cursed every time they announced someone else (as director). I kept telling them, ‘When you change again, let me know.’” And they did let her know when Soloway...

Near the end of August, it was announced that the long-awaited Red Sonja reboot was filming with M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) directing and Matilda Lutz (Revenge) taking on the lead role. In early September, we heard that Oliver Trevena (The Rising Hawk) had joined Lutz in the cast – and Trevena’s character was the only one, other than Red Sonja herself, we ever got a description of. The actor had been cast as Tr’aal, “a gladiator-type warrior who joins Sonja in her fight against an evil emperor”. Unfortunately Deadline reports that Trevena has since had to drop out of Red Sonja due to scheduling issues. They also report that Rhona Mitra of Doomsday and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is in the cast, but no details about her character have been revealed.

As we wait and see if Adam Wingard’s sequel Face/Off 2 will actually get made, Hong Kong master John Woo is getting back in the director’s chair to show the world how action filmmaking is done. In what might be his most interesting and perhaps ambitious conceit yet, his next film will not feature a single word of dialogue.
Deadline reports Woo is set to direct Silent Night, a U.S. production that will star Joel Kinnaman as a father who must venture into the underworld to avenge his young son’s death. Backed by John Wick’s Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christian Mercuri, and Lori Tilkin as well as Capstone’s Ruzanna Kegeyan and Joe Gatta, there are no additional plot details, but from the sounds of it, there may not be many more to reveal in what looks to be an all-out action extravaganza.

“Red Sonja” has found its star.
Hannah John-Kamen, best known as the villain Ghost in “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” will wield the sword of the comic book fantasy hero in Millennium Films’ long-gestating feature adaptation. Joey Soloway (“Transparent”) is directing the film, from a script by Soloway and Tasha Huo (a writer on Netflix’s upcoming “Tomb Raider” TV series).
“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she is Red Sonja,” Soloway said in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”
Created in the early 1970s by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel’s “Conan the Barbarian” comics, Red Sonja quickly became popular enough for her own spinoff series. That is certainly due in part to the character’s formidable fighting skills and forthright personality,...

Bryan Singer is in negotiations to direct “Red Sonja” for Avi Lerner’s Millennium Media, according to a spokeswoman for the producer.
The news comes three months after Singer received the directing credit for Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” despite being replaced by Dexter Fletcher during the latter stages of the shoot. Fletcher came on board to direct in December after Fox fired Singer from the project after repeated absences from the set had forced the studio to halt production.
Singer’s other directing credits include “The Usual Suspects,” “Superman Returns,” “X-Men,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” and “X-Men: Apocalypse.” He was also dropped as an executive producer on FX’s “Legion” in January in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations.
Millennium Media announced in November during the American Film Market that it was rebooting “Red Sonja” and was planning to finance and produce a new movie based on the female warrior.

Bryan Singer looks to be getting a second chance in town close to a year after he was fired off 20th Century Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody and his studio offices shut down, with the filmmaker in talks to direct Millennium’s Red Sonja remake.
Millennium has been trying to reboot the 1985 Arnold Schwarzenegger film for the past 10 years; at one point director Robert Rodriguez and then-girlfriend Rose McGowan were attached in 2008. The original made under $7 million at the box office.
Millennium’s Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta are producing.
Singer’s exit from Bohemian Rhapsody came after he apparently didn’t show up on set, and claimed that he asked Fox for time off to contend with a parent’s pressing health matter.
Singer was replaced on Bohemian Rhapsody by Dexter Fletcher during its final weeks of shooting. Still, Singer received final directing credit and reportedly has been involved in editing the movie.

Wondering just where the hell Alexandre Aja's Horns starring Daniel Radcliffe is? Well, it sounds as if digital effects company Newbreed may have bitten off a bit more than they can chew with the project.
According to The Wrap, the struggling visual effects studio will have to ship out work on the upcoming horror film to another company. Horns producers Mandalay Pictures and Red Granite Pictures have yet to decide what company will be awarded the additional work.
The Montreal-based Newbreed is enduring a severe cash crunch as it tries to refinance its debt, according to an individual with knowledge of the company's finances. The cash flow difficulties have left many Newbreed employees unpaid for weeks and resulted in an exodus of talent.

Filming has wrapped on Alexandre Aja's Horns, but that doesn't mean star Daniel Radcliffe has a clear picture of what the finished project will be like. He recently spoke to MTV about both that movie and his continued interest in Max Landis' script for a Frankenstein film.
Here's a little of what Radcliffe said about Horns:
"A few weeks after we finished, I woke up one morning thinking, 'What was that? What was that film I just did?' It's so crazy. I feel like I have less concept of what it's going to be now than when I first started, which is bizarre, but it's very exciting."
As for how "bizarre" it gets, here's an example: "I got to have burn make-up on, and then I got to come out of the Pacific Ocean after having been burned alive and drowned — and I survived that because I'm a boss.
