Dame Helen Mirren was terrified of working with Joe Pesci on their new movie Love Ranch, because she felt "intimidated" by the star's acting skills.
The Oscar-winners team up to play Charlie and Grace Bontempo in the new film, which is based on the lives of real couple Joe and Sally Conforte, who opened America's first legal brothel in Nevada in the 1970s.
And despite starting her acting career almost two decades earlier than her co-star, Mirren admits she couldn't help feeling outwitted by the Goodfellas legend.
She tells Britain's Daily Express, "He's such an icon of American cinema so I was really nervous and very intimidated by him.
"He is a fantastic actor and a massive part of American culture and being English I really felt out of my depth."...

A day before the premiere of "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse", Kristen Stewart stepped out in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 23 to attend the premiere for "Love Ranch" at the ArcLight Theatre. Donning a short black dress, the actress came to support pal Scout Taylor-Compton who stars in the movie based on the real lives of Joe and Sally Conforte.
After taking picture next to Stewart, Taylor-Compton who bared her cleavage with her simple dress joined her cast mates. She was seen posing alongside female lead Helen Mirren, Elise Neal, Taryn Manning as well as Bai Ling.
Mirren's husband Taylor Hackford who also directs the movie was pictured hitting the red carpet, joined by actor Sergio Peris-Mencheta. Emily Rios and Gil Birmingham were additionally among the cast members who showed up at the special screening.

For a while there, it kinda seemed like Joe Pesci had fallen off the face of the earth. After Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998, he apparently decided to retire from acting, but a couple of years ago he finally came back for a small role in Robert DeNiro's The Good Shepherd. Now it appears that he's getting back in the game again with a starring role in Taylor Hackford's Love Ranch... based on the true story of a married couple who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada in the 1970s. Kind of a strange choice for a comeback if you ask me. Pesci plays Charlie Botempo and Helen Mirren stars as his wife, Grace (the real people were named Joe and Sally Conforte), and as the brothel takes off, their marriage appears to deteriorate. With a different director, this could probably have been a quirky period drama in...

Here's the trailer for Taylor Hackford's Love Ranch, starring Joe Pesci, Helen Mirren, Gina Gershon and Bryan Cranston. The film is based on the true story of Joe and Sally Conforte who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada. Once you get past Pesci's screechy accent and Helen's wavering American, it looks like the moving part of the tale will be the affair between Mirren's Grace and boxer Armando (Sergio Peris-Mencheta).

A look at upcoming "Love Ranch" has been shared in a newly released trailer. Making its way out via Apple, the video captures the life of Bontempo couple who owns and runs Nevada's first legalized brothel. Helen Mirren who plays Grace Bontempo is seen seduced by a heavy weight boxer before she finally gives up and is caught in a love triangle.
Based on the real lives of Joe and Sally Conforte, "Love Ranch" is a bittersweet love story that turns explosive when the players in a romantic triangle lose control and cross the line. Grace and Charlie Bontempo's lives are suddenly altered when Armando Bruza, a husky, world famous heavy weight boxer from South America comes to the Ranch.
Armando is brought to train as part of Charlie's ever-expanding entrepreneurial empire. However, plans quickly go awry when Armando comes between Grace and Charlie as an unforeseen love triangle develops...

In 2008, Ray director Taylor Hackford made a film called Love Ranch. Starring Helen Mirren and the return of Joe Pesci, the film is based on the real story of Joe and Sally Conforte, who in 1971 founded famed brothel the Mustang Ranch. Had the film not ended up on the shelf, it would have been Pesci's first film since 2006's The Good Shepherd, and his first big role in a decade. But the film ended up mired in litigation, and has finally been freed for release. Love Ranch will hit theaters in a limited run this June, thanks to E1 Entertainment. THR has the gory details. The backstory involves David Bergstein and Capitol Films, the same financier and company behind the Mia David O. Russell film Nailed. Capitol Films financed the film and pre-sold it to foreign markets. Capitol was bought by David Bergstein and Ron Tutor, and in the spring...

Taylor Hackford's Love Ranch, which sounds hilarious based solely on the fact that it features Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci in charge of a brothel, has been caught in legal and financial troubles ever since it wrapped filming. None of the problems were hte fault of the filmmakers-- THR has a whole rundown of how Capitol Films borrowed a whole bunch of money to keep afloat and then paid back none of the loans, landing them in a lawsuit filed last month in Los Angeles. Back to Love Ranch, the plan is to release it in a few major cities in June with possible plans for an expansion. The movie is based on the true story of Joe and Sally Conforte, who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada in 1971. Hackford is also Mirren's real-life husband, and I can only imagine the two of them and Pesci laughing it...

"Love Ranch" starring his wife Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci will finally see a limited release in June this year after months of legal and vinancial issues. Canadian company E1 Entertainment will handle distribution. Film will find around 10 or so cities which of course includes New York and Los Angeles. If reviews are positive, the film could be expanded to other areas. Hackford, Mirren and Pesci are apparently expected to do promo work for the film. Flick is inspired by the real-life story of Joe and Sally Conforte, who, back in 1971, managed to open the first legalized house of prostitution in Nevada called Mustang Ranch. Based on a New York Magazine article penned by Mark Jacobson, who also wrote the script.

After months on the shelf because of legal and financial issues, Taylor Hackford's "Love Ranch," starring his wife Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci, finally will feel the love of a limited U.S. release in June.
The drama will be distributed by Canadian company E1 Entertainment, which has an agreement in principle to partner on domestic marketing costs with Aramid Entertainment Fund. E1 also acquired rights for the U.K., Scandinavia, France, Australia and elsewhere, and it will sell other foreign rights next month at Cannes.
The June release is expected to be in a handful of theaters in seven to 10 North American cities, including New York and Los Angeles. If the movie gets positive reviews and does good business, the release would be expanded.

Today's collection is a complete, eight-page look at all of the preliminary 2011 Oscar Contenders I've featured over the week in one complete post. There are a few I'll be adding, such as yesterday's Welcome to the RIleys suggestion and hopefully a few more documentaries, before the doors to the new "The Contenders" section opens up in April, but until then this is your one-stop-shop.
As we move along add any thoughts or films you think should be added in the comments below or send me an email directly if you have thoughts on additional contenders or news on any of those on this list. Your suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

Part three arrives and it comes with 20 more films to keep an eye on this year as potential Oscar candidates. If you missed parts one and two, the links for both of those can be found on the bottom of page two of this post.
With today's list of films it brings the total previewed thus far to 60 early Oscar contending films and already one reader has sent in a potential new candidate I am looking into further to see if the list again will grow from it's current total of 73 films to 74 and what may amount to a fifth film for Helen Mirren. With no films this year for Meryl Streep, it looks like Mirren is stacking the deck.
I will again remind you, this is merely a guide to potential nominees, not a guarantee, not a lock, but simply films that could potentially go on to be remembered at the year-end Oscar race.
