Daniel Dae Kim is probably best known for his role in the iconic sci-fi series Lost as well as his role in Hawaii Five-0. He has since become a gamechanger and disrupter when it comes to advocacy for Asians, Asian Americans and other underrepresented voices in Hollywood.
In 2017, he and Grace Park, who is also Asian, exited the CBS reboot of the classic ahead of the eighth season due to contractual agreements surrounding salary. This shined a light on salary parity in film and TV and how it impacts people of color and other marginalized voices — something that the industry has been grappling with for decades.
He forged his own path with his production banner 3Ad, which produced The Good Doctor and has many irons in the fire via his first-look deal with Amazon. He is producing a comedy with deaf actor and model Nyle Dimarco as well as the...

Amazon Studios has put in development Tether, a supernatural drama from The Black List scribes Kevin Hamedani and Travis Betz (The Saviors), and Daniel Dae Kim and his 3Ad production company. The project was brought into the studio by Kim under his first-look deal with the studio, and it is the first project in development for 3Ad under the pact.
Written by Hamedani and Betz, the genre-bending Tether follows the terrifying journey of Madelyn Woods, a woman driven to find her kidnapped husband and son and extract revenge on those who hurt them… and murdered her. Now a ghost, and tethered to the house she died in, Madelyn must find a way to escape her supernatural prison and save the ones she loves.

Kevin Hamedani and Travis Betz will adapt for Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman’s Mandeville Films which is producing.
The novel follows half-Persian Darius Kellner, a fanboy who knows how to speak Klingon better than Farsi, and is more versed in Hobbit social cues than Persian ones. However, his first-ever trip to Iran is about to change his life. He’s never really fit in at home, and he’s sure things are going to be the same in Iran. His clinical depression doesn’t exactly help. Then Darius meets Sohrab, the boy next door, and everything changes. Soon, they’re spending their days together, playing soccer, eating faludeh, and talking for hours on a secret rooftop overlooking the city’s skyline. It has been quite some time since we first wrote about Kevin Hamedani's short film project In Her Place. Back then it was under a different title, Prince Ali, but most notable of all was that Hamedani and his writer Max Borenstein had earned their chops in genre film and were now turning completely around for this short dramatic piece. Starring Sheila Vand (Argo, A Girl Walks Home At Night, Camino and the upcoming Whiskey Tango Foxtrot), the short film takes a close look at Persian culture. With themes of family, honor and tradition, perhaps it spoke a bit too truthfully about life in Iran as the authorities sought to confiscate the filmmakers' footage. But they made it out and the short has completed its festival run. You...

To say that In Her Place represents a departure for director Kevin Hamedani ... well, departure is probably not a forceful enough word. For his latest effort, Hamedani - writer and director of Zombies Of Mass Destruction - teamed with Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein to create something about as far away from the cult and multiplex fare they were know for as possible. What they did was arguably far more difficult: The flew to Iran to shoot on location the story of an Iranian man returning to his country after twenty years away to take a bride. We first heard of this one back in September of 2014 when they were raising funds via a crowdfunding campaign under the title Prince Ali. It's been a crazy...

The dramatic short film Prince Ali would mark quite the departure of style from what we would expect of director Kevin Hamedani and screenplay writer Max Borenstein. Hamedani wrote and directed the horror flick Zombies of Mass Destruction. Borenstein wrote Godzilla. So what makes Prince Ali so different? It certainly would not be populated with the undead or giant monsters. What we have here is a short story gleamed from a larger script that Hamedani had been working with. Together with Borenstein they believe that they found a beautiful story about a man who returns to Tehran, Iran after being away for twenty years to look for a bride. A crowdfunding campaign started on September 9th and already the project is near the halfway point of their $22,000...

“Yo dawg, I heard you like B-Movies, so here’s a B-Movie about two dudes making B-Movies and then showing their B-Movie ideas.” Thanks Xzibit, I’ll take it from here. (Yes, I spend too much time looking at internet memes.)
While watching a B-Movie full of grindhouse inspired gore and insane ideas always proves to be an interesting experience, I always believed the actual process of making said film is equally as entertaining. Be it monsters ripping the heads off of characters or Nazi zombies eating vacationers on a snowy mountain, you have to remember those ideas were created by a filmmaker. Someone actually sat there and said “You know what would be awesome?! Let’s mix together a shark and an octopus, get Eric Roberts, and have it cause a ton of havoc! Yeah!” – and thus Sharktopus was born.

Kevin Hamedani's Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction took part in the 4th Annual Afterdark Horrorfest that started in late January and early February. The entire collection is already set for a DVD release on March 23.
Online reviews of Zombies of Mass Destruction are a mixed bag:
FEARnet: "...works as a punchy, funny, gory little zombie flick."
WeAreMovieGeeks: "Unfortunately director-writer Kevin Hamedani's ambitious debut, though goofy and good-natured enough, is hampered by a too-broad script where 4 out of 5 of its jokes fall completely flat."
Bloody-Disgusting: "This ain't a "splatter" zombie film. It's merely a good one."
Quiet Earth: "Billed as a "political zomedy", it definitely had the political and the zombie, but the comedy which was at times Dumber & Dumber retarded, was mostly lacking or too obtuse..."
Variety: "Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction is part of a rare breed: a horror-comedy that's actually consistently funny and occasionally almost scary.

Our coverage of the 2010 After Dark Horrorfest continues with our exclusive interview with Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction writer/director Kevin Hamedani. Zmd marks the first horror/comedy for After Dark and judging by the way Hamedani describes his flick ('a hybrid of that realistic dry humor of Election with the occasional broad political jab of Dr. Strangelove with zombies') I'd be willing to wager that horror fans could be in for a serious treat here. An idyllic island town is under attack by that most invasive of pests: zombies! Port Gamble is being overrun with brain-eaters, and the people seem powerless to stave them off. But wait, a ragtag band of rebels is trying to turn the tide and push the invading hoards of undead back. It sounds familiar, sure, but this time stereotypes are on parade (and parody ) in a retake on the zombie thriller. Gore abounds (really abounds) and the current events-based hits keep coming in this send-up of zombie movie clichés where no subculture escapes unscathed.

Possibly for competitive reasons two films, with similar names are making their way to DVD in the next couple of years. The film receiving a preview here is "Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction," which has a 2009 release date and not "ZMDs: Zombies of Mass Destruction," with a 2011 release. Hopefully that clears things up, or confuses the issue further; anyways, this political comedy, set in the world of zombies looks like an attempt to poke fun at the situation in Afghanistan, or Iraq. Adding some interesting stunts into the film "Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction," looks to explode on home theatre systems later this year. Have a look at the hilarious plot summary inside along with a full trailer.
