People say you can never go home again. That could be true for Max (Brian Cox) when he returns to his daughter’s house after an extended prison sentence in the new drama Prisoner’s Daughter. Emotions run high as father and daughter reconnect and old wounds open. Boundaries risk getting crossed while Max tries to compensate for the lost time. In Vertical‘s Prisoner’s Daughter trailer, we find Beckinsale and Cox at odds while navigating a damaged relationship. Can Max repair the damage before time runs out?
Catherine Hardwicke directs from a script by Mark Bacci. Prisoner’s Daughter “is a gritty, turbulent thriller that follows Max (Brian Cox) who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and granted a compassionate release after 12 years in prison with the condition he resides with his estranged daughter, Maxine (Kate Beckinsale),” reads the film’s official synopsis. “As a single mom desperate for income to raise her only son,...

The man who gave us cinema’s greatest werewolf now brings us a pretty lady with deer legs.
I love John Landis. I know not everyone shares this opinion. He has been controversial ever since his involvement in the Twilight Zone: The Movie accident that claimed the lives of his leading man, Vic Morrow, and co-stars Myca Dinh Le and Shin-Yi Chen, both of whom were children. It’s an impossible discussion to have in any kind of satisfying way here; there was an entire book written about it (Outrageous Conduct by Stephen Farber and Marc Green) and a lengthy court case at the end of which Landis was absolved of legal responsibility. Clearly it was still a tragedy, and clearly Landis shares in the blame for an accident that could have been avoided. I only bring it up here to provide some context for Landis’ career and to let you,...

So New Moon made over $140 million this past weekend. I wish I can say that I'm surprised, but really, who would be? It's Twilight. Everybody should've expected it to do gangbusters.
You might have noticed that we don't have a review for it... yet. There's a reason for that. I went to a screening of it last Wednesday, but never made it into the theater, after my stubborn self encountered a problem passing the security check. Nothing too scandalous, I didn't bite anybody—that night, anyway—but I scuttled on home skipping out on my date with the hot new reel on the block. So what did I do instead?
I could have seen the movie during the weekend, of course. But hey, it was busy breaking three different box office records: opening day (beating The Dark Knight), midnight showing (beating Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and November opening...
