Conservative firebrand Candace Owens has left the news outlet The Daily Wire after a war of words with the founder of the news brand, fellow far-right figure Ben Shapiro, which began shortly after the outset of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
Owens joined the partisan conservative news website, which gained traction during former President Donald Trump’s time in the White House, in 2020 and hosted a weekday commentary show for the brand, known for repackaging other news outlets’ reporting with a right-wing spin. The 34-year-old confirmed the news on Friday on X, the platform where most of the drama between the two conservative media figures played out.
“The rumors are true — I am finally free. If you would like to support my work, you can head to http://CandaceOwens.com where you will be directed to my locals page,” Owens tweeted, then solicited for funds on another personal website.

Candace Owens, the right-wing media figure, is no longer at The Daily Wire, her signature platform for nearly four years.
“Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship,” Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing wrote on X/Twitter this morning.
Known for her culture warrior rhetoric, Owens has embraced conspiracy theories since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7. This week, the Anti-Defamation League called out Owens for “vitriolic antisemitism.” Earlier this week, she “liked” a tweet that advanced an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that Jews were “drunk on Christian blood,” per Mediaite.
“My crime is having stood up for myself against your network of smears,” Owens wrote following the Adl criticism.
To much publicity, it was announced in November, 2020 that Owens would move to Nashville to join the platform’s team.

In late 2018, Gina Carano — a pioneering mixed martial arts champion who successfully transitioned to acting in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 film Haywire — was blissfully staring up at the stars. They weren’t actual stars, but digital facsimiles projected onto a massive, domed screen — all part of a groundbreaking new effects technology from Industrial Light & Magic known as the Volume. Carano lived in Hermosa Beach at the time, just 15 minutes from Manhattan Beach Studios, where she was working on a top-secret sci-fi project, code name Project Huckleberry. But thanks to the Volume, she might as well have been 3 million light years away.
“I loved disappearing into this strange world of spaceships and galaxies and alien characters,” Carano, 41, tells me in a suite at The Beverly Hills Hotel. She’s wrapped in a gauzy shawl and curled up barefoot on a couch, far more subdued and cordial in person than her feisty persona,...

San Francisco, June 2 (Ians) In yet another high-profile exit, Twitter’s head of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, has resigned amid ongoing drama over a film.
She joined Twitter in June 2022 and was appointed as head of trust and safety in November, replacing Yoel Roth who resigned after Elon Musk took over.
According to reports, her departure coincides with the platform’s ongoing challenges in retaining advertisers, primarily due to concerns from brands about their association with inappropriate content.
Conservative outlet the Daily Wire claimed on Thursday that Twitter “cancelled a deal” for them to make its film, ‘What is a Woman?’ available on the micro-blogging platform for free.
“Twitter cancelled a deal with @realdailywire to premiere ‘What is a Woman?’ for free on the platform because of two instances of misgendering,” posted Jeremy Boreing, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Daily Wire.
Musk replied: “This was a mistake by many people on Twitter.

With so many companies going “woke” nowadays, American conservatives are understandably looking to purchase goods and services from brands that reflect their own values. Or, to put a finer point on it, from hucksters who promise that buying alternative products from them is a surefire way to “own the libs.”
It’s not an entirely new phenomenon, and challenging the mainstream market has paid dividends before. Black Rifle Coffee Company, for example, rapidly expanded after pledging in 2017 to hire 10,000 veterans — this being a pointed response to a Starbucks initiative aimed at hiring 10,000 refugees.

“Tech giants like @YouTube, @Facebook, @TikTok_US, and—until @ElonMusk wrote a check—@Twitter, flagging, banning, throttling, shadow banning, and demonetizing us is a constant occurrence,” tweeted Daily Wire co-ceo Jeremy Boreing in a thread last month. The thread revealed what Boreing called a Big Tech “cancel blitz” against the company, including YouTube’s demonetization of Matt Walsh’s channel after the firebrand repeatedly stated that men are men and women are women when referring to people claiming otherwise. The company responded by putting “The Matt Walsh Show” on Twitter. Far-right YouTuber Steven Crowder has kicked off a public feud with The Daily Wire after the right-wing news outlet approached him with a measly four-year contract offer worth a pitiful 50 million, and some fiduciary obligations on his part.
On Tuesday, Crowder launched the “Stop Big Con” initiative and accused “conservative media giants” of being “no better than Big Tech” and putting profit over the honest defense of conservative values.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Crowder described a period of “free agency” following his departure from The Blaze in December.

One of the biggest box office failures of 2022 was “Terror on the Prairie,” the Ben Shapiro-produced Western starring Gina Carano. It marked Carano’s first major role since being fired from “The Mandalorian” over a series of social media posts that many viewed as antisemitic. The film only grossed 804 during its one-day theatrical run despite any star power that the actress might have on the political right.
The film was intended to be part of The Daily Wire’s stated strategy of making films that entertain audiences without what they see as overt messaging, but without being explicitly conservative either.
“We’re making entertainment-first content, challenging content, adult content,” Daily Wire co-founder and -CEO Jeremy Boreing said of the company’s film strategy in a recent interview with IndieWire.” The two things that will distinguish [a Daily Wire film] is the fact that it broadly speaks to values that conservatives are aligned on — not strictly conservative values.

The Daily Wire, the conservative media outlet founded by Ben Shapiro, has hired a Disney veteran to help grow its subscription streaming business.
The company has tapped Eric Caballero as its new CMO, overseeing all marketing for the company, particularly as it continues to invest in the entertainment business, arguing that legacy companies like Disney have abandoned their family-friendly roots.
Caballero most recently worked as VP in Disney’s media and entertainment distribution group.
Among other projects, Caballero will lead marketing for The Daily Wire+, the company’s streaming platform. While it includes politically-focused content from The Daily Wire as well as some other conservative programming, the company is moving further into entertainment, committing 100 million to produce kids and family fare, and expanding into original movies (including a Gina Carano led offering called Terror on the Prairie).

Spiral
Stars: Joel David Moore, Amber Tamblyn, Zachary Levi | Written by Joel David Moore & Jeremy Danial Boreing | Directed by Joel David Moore & Adam Green
Director Adam Green is probably best known for his retro slasher Hatchet, but Spiral is no slasher, it has more in common with his more recent movie Frozen than Hatchet. Actually, Spiral in fact has more in common with classic Hitchcock and Rod Serling’s classic Twilight Zone than anything Green has directed before or since.
The film is the story of Mason, a reclusive, neurotic, asthmatic, troubled, telemarketer who is haunted by visions of a former girlfriend. His only joy in life comes from his art and listening to old jazz records. Working at a dead-end job in an insurance company with his friend Berkeley, he embarks on a relationship with new employee Amber, who soon becomes Mason’s muse, posing for portraits and eventually sleeping with him.
