YouTube has canceled “Impulse,” arguably its final out-and-out drama, after two seasons.
The cancelation leaves only a couple remaining scripted series at the web subscription service, namely “Cobra Kai” and “Liza on Demand,” and is the latest example of YouTube’s shifting content strategy.
The shift became clear in April of last year, when the quadruple cancelation of “Champaign Ill,” “Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television,” “Sideswiped,” and “Do You Want to See a Dead Body” signaled that rather than taking on streamers like Netflix and Amazon with a traditional slate of scripted projects, YouTube was changing its focus to genres such as unscripted, educational and music artist-focused docu-follows.
“Impulse” showrunner Lauren LeFranc shared news of the cancelation via Twitter, saying that “we tried to find a new home, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be.” In her statement, LeFranc talked about struggle she and the show’s creators faced “being on a new,...

YouTube Premium's Cobra Kai will, for a limited window, be viewable for free, starting with Season 1.
Cobra Kai is kicking through its YouTube Premium paywall, making an experimental transition to free viewing!
The entirety of Cobra Kai’s first season, which arrived back in 2018, is being released for the first time outside the subscription auspices of YouTube Premium, with the caveat of the episodes being presented in ad-supported form. Moreover, along with some other YouTube Premium content, the show’s second season – still relatively fresh from its April 24 premiere – will also be made available in free-but-ad-filled form on September 11. However, as mentioned, this is an experimental transition, and, consequently, the free availability will be limited – at least, for now, anyway.
As YouTube chief business officer Robert Kyncl says of the ad-supported experiment in a statement.
“Today, we are welcoming a global audience to enjoy our award-winning series and specials.

Maddie Hasson was drawn to “Impulse” because she found the protagonist, Henrietta “Henry” Coles, to be “really interesting, especially for a young female character.” Based on the book series by Steven Gould, the YouTube Originals series centers on a teenager who discovers she possesses powers of teleportation following a sexual assault. A version of this story was previously filmed by Doug Liman as the 2007 film “Jumper.” The filmmaker then brought the show to the streaming network and directed the pilot episode. Watch our exclusive video interview with Hasson above.

The actress describes Henry as “a very lonely person. She’s always on her own. I liked her because she’s like a raw nerve. She’s very angry, real and harsh. I liked seeing that in a young female character because I think so often young adult TV shows can get caught up … in being likable.

Lauren LeFranc reveals that “Impulse” got its start when director Doug Liman met with YouTube to try and right a cinematic wrong. According to LeFranc, he said that his 2007 science-fiction film “Jumper” was “the only movie that I’ve never really been happy with, and I think I can do better.” He had intended it to be “a coming-of-age story, and it became something different from the studio.” This new series, on which LeFranc serves as showrunner, was an opportunity to tell the story the way it was meant to be. YouTube Premium is bringing back Doug Liman's Impulse for another suspenseful season of sci-fi.
YouTube Premium isn't messing around with its sci-fi series, Impulse. Indeed, the show, which premiered back on June 6, 2018, landed a quick renewal for a second season, which was announced less than two months later at that year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
YouTube Premium (formerly YouTube Red) cited 8 million viewers for the Impulse pilot in its Comic-Con 2018 renewal confirmation. Thus, Impulse Season 2, like its predecessor, is coming back with a full 10-episode run. It helped that the first season was very well received, and that the popular Cobra Kai helped the new streaming subscription service carve out a viable niche.

YouTube Red has released a full trailer for the Doug Liman's upcoming sci-fi drama series Impulse. The series is based on Steven Gould's Jumper series and this particular story is based on the third book in that series.
I've been impressed with what I've seen from this show so far and this latest trailer offers us more details on the story that it will tell. The show definitely looks a hell of a lot better than the Jumper movie! Impulse seems to have a much darker, gritty, and grounded tone to it, which I like.

Remember that 2008 sci-fi movie Jumper? It told the story of certain individuals would have the ability to transport themselves any place they can imagine. it starred Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jamie Bell. It was a fun movie, but I've never had the urge to watch it again.
That series is now being turned into a TV series and Jamie Bell is coming on board to help develop it and reprise his role from the film. Doctor Who's writer and director Julian Simpson is also involved with the development of the project, which is set up at Lionsgate and New Regency.
There are no details on why the story for the series would entail, but I imagine it will continue the story of Bell's character if he's reprising his role. There is a series of novels that have been written by Steven Gould, so there's plenty of source material to pull from.

YouTube Red has just ordered a handful of new series for audiences to watch. They include a sequel series to the teleportation thriller Jumper, which Doug Liman is attached to direct; a time-travel series from Dwayne Johnson tentatively called Lifeline; and an eSports series from Community creator Dan Harmon.
The Jumper sequel series is called Impulse, and it's based on the third novel in the Jumper book series. The story for it centers on "a rebellious 16-year-old girl, who has always felt different from her peers and has longed to escape from her seemingly quaint small town. When a local drug dealer attempts to assault her, she discovers her extraordinary ability to teleport. This newfound power confirms her conviction that she really is different from everybody else, but it now makes her the focus of those who want to control her."
This sounds like it could be a fun series.

One of the reasons I love James Cameron is because he is so absurdly ambitious, and more often than not, when he aims high, he actually hits the target. From The Abyss through Avatar, every time Cameron made a film, it would be accompanied by tons of press about how much money he was spending and how crazy he was and what a giant failure each film would be. It’s become a fairly familiar pattern. How many times in a row does someone have to do something before people stop predicting failure? At least three times, he’s made the most expensive movie of all time and the film has become a massive hit anyway. Forget about the business side of things, though. What I love about James Cameron is his single-mindedness. When he believes in something, he attacks it with everything he has. I remember the two years...

Today, Rise sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters, with a screenplay that Jaffa and Silver co-penned with Mark Bomback. But Dawn is just the tip of the iceberg. Jaffa and Silver are currently hard at work on Avatar 2 alongside director James Cameron. The writers also worked on next year’s dino-reboot Jurassic World. While a number of these books and stories were published in 2013, some were not. But I still highly recommend them all for readers that haven't had a chance to add them to their lists.
2013 has been quite the tumultuous year. One theme in publishing that has stood out is that of the apocalyptic tale. The draw to apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic works has been going on for some time now and doesn't show any signs of slowing, which is great. Some of the best stories this year have blossomed from that sub-genre.
Aside from that, there are numerous dark, horrific fiction works that stand head and shoulders above the rest. Here is just a small sampling of a few of my favorites read this year.

Avatar has spawned a series of original novels that will take place around the events of the movie.
Director James Cameron has hired Jumper author Steven Charles Gould to pen four books set in the world of Pandora.
Cameron had originally planned to write an official Avatar novel himself, but is currently at work on three proposed sequels to his 2009 blockbuster.
"Steven Gould is one of the shining lights in contemporary science fiction, and I've long admired the worlds and characters he's created in his books and stories," Cameron said.
"We're very fortunate to have Steven bring his formidable talents to the Avatar universe. He is already working closely with me and the screenwriters to flesh out the expanding world of Avatar."
The first of the proposed Avatar sequels is scheduled to arrive in theatres in December 2016, with subsequent instalments landing a year apart.

James Cameron is currently working on screenplays for three new "Avatar" sequels. Apparently four movies is not enough to show everything about "Avatar," because Cameron has now teamed with sci-fi author Steven Charles Gould (Jumper) to put together four stand-alone "Avatar" novels in order to expand the world that he has created. "Steven Gould is one of the shining lights in contemporary science fiction, and I've long admired the worlds and characters he's created in his books and stories," said Cameron. "We're very fortunate to have Steven bring his formidable talents to the 'Avatar' universe. He is already working closely with me and the screenwriters to flesh out the expanding world of 'Avatar.'" The screenwriters he's talking about are Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Shane Salerno (Savages) and the team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), who are co-writing "Avatar 2,...

Filmmaker James Cameron has tapped noted science fiction author Steven Charles Gould (Jumper) to write four stand-alone novels based upon – and expanding — Cameron’s history-making 2009 film Avatar, and Cameron’s stories for his three upcoming Avatar sequels.
Cameron commented, “Steven Gould is one of the shining lights in contemporary science fiction, and I’ve long admired the worlds and characters he’s created in his books and stories. While Gould is best known for his 1992 novel Jumper, which Twentieth Century Fox and New Regency turned into a motion picture in 2008, he has been acclaimed for his short fiction, including his Hugo Award-nominated short story “Rory,” and the novelette “Peaches for Mad Molly.” The latter was also on...

James Cameron has already been creating waves today by saying that he thinks all entertainment will one day be in 3D, but his latest announcement for the Avatar universe falls more into the 2D category. For now, though, he’s hired Jumper author Steven Charles Gould to write four stand-alone novels set on and around Pandora. It’s not the first writer announcement for Cameron, who has been on a hiring spree picking up scribes to help out on his three new planned trips to the fictional moon.Despite the fact that he was talking, a couple of years ago, about working on the novel himself, he has apparently been unable to find enough time between trying to figure out the three new movies to actually finish the thing. Still, he thinks Gould is the best choice to carry on the effort: “Steven Gould is one of the shining lights in contemporary science fiction,...

Steven Gould is the author of many short stories and novels, including Jumper, which was turned into a movie (a fun flick worth seeing if you haven't already). His story in the Ellen Datlow/Terri Windling anthology After is a heartwarming (pun intended) story of family survival. It starts off with the main character, Jeremy, watching what – at first – seems to be normal beetle-like bugs crawling across a soda can. But they are not ordinary bugs; they are metal-eating insects, devouring any and all metal they can find. Jeremy and his family – father, mother and sister – set out on leaving their home, going to a safe-zone in order to avoid the creatures. But they miscalculate and find themselves (and their car) deep within a swarm. Since the creatures are only interested in metal, it would seem that humans are safe. Unless they have fillings or, say, a pacemaker... which the father has.

7th Sigma contains several major philosophical questions just underneath the adventure story on the surface. In the near future, a horde of metallic “bugs” have taken over the American Southwest, devouring metal and killing thousands in the process. 7th Sigma punts the most obvious practical questions about the bugs’ origin to the end, but it does the same with more general queries about human nature. How would civilization continue without metal? What would motivate people to continue living in the bug areas? And how would the state maintain its power? Steven Gould’s narrow focus answers the first two questions ...

Hayden Christensen, the star of 2008′s surprise hit “Jumper”, thinks a “Jumper 2″ is not only possible, but there are “talks” ongoing about doing it. He tells MTV as much during the red carpet premiere of his latest movie, the crime thriller “Takers”: “We’re talking about it right now actually,” he said. Where could the story go? “Hopefully somewhere a little darker. I think there’s a lot you can do with it. It was sort of set up in a way it’s gonna be mother hunting son and possibly even maybe sister hunting brother. We’re talking about it, trying to figure it out.” The original starred Christensen as a young man with the ability to teleport anywhere he wants, and Rachel Bilson as his love interest. The movie was based on a series of novels by Steven Gould, and co-starred Samuel L. Jackson as the...

In a recent interview with MTV, actor Hayden Christensen revealed that a sequel to Doug Liman's 2008 sci-fi film Jumper might actually happen. Here's what he said:

I loved the concept and story behind Jumper, unfortunately I think they dropped the ball with the first film. It should have been a much better movie. I wouldn't mind seeing another chapter up on the big screen though as long as they could get it together and make a better film this time around.
What do you all think of a Jumper sequel?
Jumper is the story of an underground world of teleporters.

- See the trailer below. Based on the Steven Gould novel, adapted by David Goyer with rewrites from Jim Uhls and Simon Kinberg, this is planned as a trilogy. This follows a young man from a broken home who discovers that he has the ability to teleport. In his quest for the man he believes is responsible for the death of his mother, the kid draws the attention of the National Security Agency and another youth with the same abilities. Christensen will play the young man who can teleport. Jackson plays an Nsa agent, while Bell is the jumper who shows Christensen the ropes. Bilson will play the love interest.Wow- looks like 20th Century Fox put some serious green into this one. Overall- Jumper looks like it could be quite a cool little sci-fi adventure. Hayden Christensen is definitely not one of my favorite actors, but he looks like
