The moment Amigo the Devil realized his life was entering its next phase came when his 1979 Ford E-150 van burst into flames and burned to the ground last December in a Nashville parking lot.
“This was only two and half weeks after I bought it,” the singer-songwriter, also known as Danny Kiranos, tells Rolling Stone. “I get in, start it, it catches on fire — the whole thing blows up.”
Kiranos shakes his head and chuckles in hindsight. At the time, the destruction of the vehicle was traumatizing and surreal. Now...

Of course it would start with White Zombie.

Rob Zombie Presents Classic Horror Film Soundtrack Series Exclusively Through Waxwork Records: "Rob Zombie and Waxwork Records have partnered to release an exclusive, curated line of classic Horror movie soundtracks. “Rob Zombie Presents” will feature several never-before-released film soundtracks that were personally selected by the singer, songwriter, and filmmaker.
Rob Zombie and Waxwork are thrilled to announce their first soundtrack title as “Rob Zombie Presents White Zombie”. Starring Bela Lugosi, 1932’s White Zombie is considered the first zombie movie. It was also filmed on Universal Studio’s lot, using several props from other horror films of that time. Starring Madge Bellamy, Robert W. Rob Zombie and Waxwork Records have joined forces to release an exclusive, curated line of classic horror movie soundtracks.
The series, called Rob Zombie Presents, will offer several never-before-released film soundtracks that Zombie personally selected.
“I have always been a huge fan of movie soundtracks, so I jumped at the opportunity to work with Waxwork on this project,” Zombie said in a statement. “I can’t wait to release these albums. So many of these films are greatly under-appreciated and they all contain such great music. So to be able to release these deluxe packages is a dream come true.”
The first soundtrack to be released is fittingly the one for White Zombie. The 1932 film starring Bela Lugosi is considered the first-ever zombie movie, and inspired the name for Rob Zombie’s former band, White Zombie. According to a release, the film was “slammed by critics upon its release” but...

Lorde isn’t the only big-haired artist making her Rolling Stone cover debut on the new issue. That’s because the leering, high-coiffed, emaciated ghoul on her T-shirt belongs to another band: the Cramps. The group, which used the T-shirt illustration on their cheekily titled 1984 comp Bad Music for Bad People, pioneered its own brand of sinewy, rockabilly-inspired garage punk that was perfect for the dinge of its native New York City when it formed in 1976 (or a little over two whole 17-year-old Lordes ago).

Greetings from the apocalypse! That may be this column's reassuring greeting each week, but damn if it hasn't proved prescient as all get-out. It seems like we can't go a week this summer without at least one movie where extinction-level events occur with pornographic intensity ("Man of Steel," "This is the End," "After Earth," the upcoming "Pacific Rim" and "The World's End"). Not that I'm complaining. Bring on the rubble, Brad Pitt!

Shortly after his mammoth graphic novel “The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto” was released by Image Comics in 2007, Scream Award-nominated director Rob Zombie told MTV News that the animated version of his “superhero monster sex comedy” was finished as well. The comics-friendly music maestro and White Zombie founder who recently contributed to the “Punisher: War Zone” soundtrack now says that the feature film’s release date is still up in the air and has no problem throwing down some harsh words to express his frustrations behind the scenes.

Hot on the heels of Rob Zombie's unveiling of the first still from his Halloween sequel, H2 (see it here), loads of behind-the-scenes photos have begun popping up on the web.
The Black Bunny, a normally pirate-themed blog from Covington, Georgia is hosting several galleries worth of photos that give an up-close look at the production. Most interesting to note is the production design, which has transformed this small southern town into a Midwestern Halloween mecca.
In other H2 news, The Morgan County Citizen is reporting that Zombie has found his location for Uncle Meat's Java Hole, a combination coffee shop/record store where Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) and friend Mya Rockwell (Brea Grant) work.
"Dog Ear Books bookstore in downtown Madison will transform into “Uncle Meets Java Hole,” a coffee house and record store this Thursday, just long enough for the cast and crew of “H2: Halloween 2...

With Rob Zombie busy with his second trip to Haddonfield in the upcoming H2, the prospects of new music from the man seem a little slim right now. Sure there was a one-off track for Punisher: Warzone, but the partially-recorded new album will likely wait until the movie is done. The good news for Rock Band players is that starting today, you'll be able to enjoy a few classics from the White Zombie era in a whole new way.
Hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace today, and the Playstation Store on Thursday are Black Sunshine and More Human Than Human. Both tracks were recently heard on the White Zombie Box Set (see our review here), and will be playable with both Rock Band and Rock Band 2.
Both tracks are original master recordings.
These tracks will be $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) a piece.

Athens, Ga. popsters offer mid-tempo pleasantries
Amidst Ben Folds-inflected piano rockers, Modern Skirt’s 2005 debut featured the charming “Pasadena,” a shuffling acoustic number that backed heartsick hopes with chiming group vocals. The lion’s share of their follow-up seizes on that formula, at its best holding steady between ’60s sunshine and ’90s alternative to spin out breezy jangle pop. The mid-tempo pleasantries do sometimes plod, however, even with their layered depth, and a melting-pot agreeability here is often an interest-losing weakness. All Of Us is invigorated midway through by “Face Down,” which sounds like a bizarro Weezer—in a world where Rivers Cuomo’s childhood obsession was more along the lines of Zombies than White Zombie. And as exhibited by the sly build of “Motorcade,” a campfire sing-along for the urban set (produced by R.E.M.’s Mike Mills), the Skirts are most captivating when they allow their songs to mature and surprise.

It's that time of year again, when everyone rolls out their "Top 10" lists, the "Best and Worsts", and other variations on what boils down to individual opinions on what they loved or loathed throughout the previous 365 days. Not big on doing a numeric list, here's some of my favorite Musick releases for 2008 in no particular order.
Between The Buried And Me - "Colors Live"
Release Date: 10/14/2008
Label: Victory Records
Format: DVD/CD
You've got to respect a band like Between the Buried and Me for doing what they do, and carving a niche far outside the norm. Seamlessly mixing hardcore, death metal, and melodic pop with the ability to turn on a dime, Btbam is by far one of the most polished acts currently skirting the mainstream. Their DVD set for Colors is beautifully shot, has a fantastic audio mix, and has spent more time in my player this year than almost anything else.

Writer, director, musician, and overall one-man army Rob Zombie often has so many irons in the fire that it's hard to keep up with what's going on. Now he invites us all to join him in Zombie World.

I was first exposed to the music of White Zombie through a blind buy of their 1989 Caroline Records release Make Them Die Slowly (the spine of the CD oddly says “Let Them Die Slowly”). At the time, I didn’t really enjoy it, and I later went on to trade in the disc at a local record store in favor of something a little more “metal.”
At the time, I was in high school, and riding on the cusp of that “am I a punk kid, a metalhead, or a part of the grunge movement?” identity crisis that many of my peers also faced in the early 1990's. I’d later come to realize that labels of genre were not important, and that good music was all that ever really mattered.

This morning SpookyDan had the chance to talk with shock-rocker Rob Zombie about his new track, "War Zone", which is now available on iTunes and Lionsgate's soundtrack for Punisher: War Zone. During the interview, Zombie also talked a bit about the new White Zombie box set, his forthcoming solo album and the status of his animated feature project, The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto. It came about like most movie songs do, you get a call asking to do a song for a film. Usually there is not a lot of time, which is why you usually submit a remix or an old song, Zombie explains. But in this case I was already in the recording studio, and there was enough time. I havent seen the movie yet, they gave me the script, so I knew the vibe of the movie and I tried to incorporate that into the song.

You won’t want to miss tonight’s Fangoria Radio interview with Rob Zombie tonight on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 102 (10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Est). In this morning’s pretaped interview with the musician/filmmaker, interviewers Debbie Rochon and Tony Timpone got the scoop on Zombie’s next directorial effort, Tyrannosaurus Rex.
“It’s about the biggest bad-ass fighting even badder-ass motherf’ers,” Zombie says of the nonhorror project, whose lead antihero is cut from the Charles Bronson/Lee Marvin cloth because “today’s action heroes don’t look tough anymore.” Regarding Dimension’s already announced Tyrannosaurus Rex release date of August 28, 2009, Zombie scoffs: “I haven’t even written the script yet. All I have is one sentence.”
Zombie just finished the last two days mixing his animated Haunted World Of Superbeasto movie for Anchor Bay/Dimension (“The film took forever to complete because we were at the mercy...

Hot Dog! Editor John Joseph Adams is finally back with his new literary zombie anthology called "The Living Dead." Some of you may remember that we were big fans of his last book, Wastelands : Stories of the Apocalypse and when I interviewed him, Adams confessed that his next literary comp would indeed be about zombies (though at that time the book in question was to be called "No More Room in Hell"). Well, it looks like, true to his word, Adams has compiled a doozy of a book which includes stories from the likes of heavyweights; Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, Robert Silverberg, George R. R. Martin, Clive Barker, Poppy Z. Brite, Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Joe R. Lansdale. This looks like a must have for zombie fans. The book will be available from Nightshade Books in September but you can pre-order it from Amazon after the break.
