Maybe you were at the grocery store when you found yourself singing along to Afrojack's "Take Over Control" for the hundredth time. Or maybe it was when Martin Solveig's "Hello" was suddenly on repeat on your iPod. Whatever your moment was, it's fair to say the American appetite for electronic dance music surged in 2011, bringing "the rave" to radio and festivals, touching every U.S. city (big and small). Even Grammy voters took notice this year, nominating Skrillex for Best New Artist and in four other categories.
Afrojack, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Benny Benassi put up mainstream, chart-topping bangers. Las Vegas' Electric Daisy Carnival and Miami's Ultra Music Festival saw record attendance, and dance music's biggest stars headlined a stage at every major mainstream festival: Lollapalooza,...

Swedish electronic dance music DJ-producer Tim Berg winds down 2011 seemingly seated on a throne. Under his Avicii stage moniker, he has arguably one of the most popular dance music singles of the year, "Levels," which was recently released by Interscope and has a hilarious music video to accompany it. He sits just above Afrojack at #6 on DJ Mag's list of top 10 most popular DJs on the planet. And more recently, a song he co-produced with David Guetta, "Sunshine," was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
Underscoring the accolade, MTV News caught up with Guetta this weekend, where the dance music icon sang Berg's praises. Check it out below:
“He's an amazing new talent,” Guetta says. "I think he has a great future. In the same way that I met with Afrojack two years ago and was like, 'Wow this kid is amazing!' and I...

Leona Lewis might need to get herself another new single for the first offering of her upcoming third studio album. Rumor has it, the former winner of "The X Factor" was recently forced to remove her newly-released song "Collide" from radio playlists due to copyright infringement accusation.
The removal was made shortly after complaint was filed by DJ Avicii in a London court. His label Ministry of Sound issued a statement regarding the legal action, "Avicii is an up-and-coming talent; we think he should be given a fair crack at making this record the hit it deserves to be."
When Leona was hit with the plagiarism allegation last month, she was quick to deny it. "With regards to my song, avicii was aware & agreeing publishing splits for himself and his manager," she informed her Twitter followers in response to the controversy.
The song's producer Sandy Vee also voiced his denial,...

Leona Lewis has defended her new single against claims of plagiarism. The X Factor champion has been accused of copying a track by Ministry of Sound producer Avicii - better known as Tim Berg - on her new single 'Collide', but has now maintained that the DJ knew about her version before its premiere on Friday. "With regards to my song, avicii was aware & agreeing publishing splits for himself and his manager (sic)," Lewis explained on Twitter. "When avicii sent his track out to have a song written over it I totally fell in love with this version and i think he's super talented." Responding to the 'Happy' star, Berg stated: "Thanks for accusing me of lying and speaking on my behalf." Berg continued: "Since we never met or even spoke, please let me and my manager know who told you that and what confirmation (more)...

One of Europe's biggest dance-music events is just two days away, and already the Tomorrowland Festival in Boom, Belgium, falls in line with global powerhouses like Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and New York City's Electric Zoo.
What sets Tomorrowland apart is its fairytale theme, with stages and tents that seem to be taken right out of "Alice in Wonderland." It's also an occasion for the biggest dance-music stars in the world to rock tens of thousands of attendees with big tunes and yet-unreleased monsters-in-the-making.
"I've never been," Swedish DJ/producer Avicii told MTV via Skype. "It's a completely different world, and I've been told to expect a sh--load of people! I've seen videos from [David] Guetta last year,...

Leona Lewis denied her newly-released single "Collide" is a rip-off of a track called "Penguin" by up-and-coming Swedish DJ Avicii aka Tim Berg. Contrary to the rumor, the former winner of "The X Factor" insisted she recorded the song after getting a blessing from the disc jokey.
"With regards to my song, avicii was aware & agreeing publishing splits for himself and his manager," the British singer wrote on her Twitter. She added in another posting, "When avicii sent his track out to have a song written over it I totally fell in love with this version and i think he's super talented x."
"Collide" is produced by Sandy Vee and written by Autumn Rowe. Sandy has previously debunked the plagiarism allegation, stating the DJ was actually listed on the song credit. He tweeted, "Talk only if you know what u r talking about....if not shut up. Fyi , check the credits,...

Simon Cowell's record company Syco has been accused of lying about claims that Leona Lewis plagiarised the work of a Ministry of Sound artist. The X Factor winner unveiled new single 'Collide' on Friday, which just hours later was noted as sounding "identical" to the song 'Fade Into Darkness' by Swedish DJ Avicii, better known as Tim Berg. Ministry of Sound threatened to sue Cowell over the track, but Syco responded by claiming that "there is zero legal case to answer", as the dance artist's contribution has already been recognised. "Avicii is already credited as a songwriter on Leona's song," a representative said. "It's a case of sour grapes from Ministry of Sound." However, Avicii hit back at Syco's assertions on Twitter last night, writing: "To answer everyone, the (more)...

Leona Lewis has recently dropped a fresh dance track called "Collide", but the release was marred with accusation that the song was a rip-off. It was reported that the new single was a copy of another up-beat track called "Penguin" by up-and-coming Swedish DJ Avicii aka Tim Berg.
"Collide" is produced by Sandy Vee and written by Autumn Rowe. Fuming over the plagiarism allegation, Sandy wrote on his Twitter to slam those spreading the rumor. "Talk only if you know what u r talking about....if not shut up. Fyi , check the credits, u will find Tim Berg, Autumn and I," he tweeted.
The copycat rumor was first run exclusively by Digital Spy. "Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Scott Mills have been playing 'Penguin' for months now, but this week we've realized Simon Cowell and Leona Lewis have stolen our record. 'Collide' is identical to Avicii's track!" a source told the publication.

Leona Lewis has been accused of plagiarising a song by a Ministry of Sound artist for her new single 'Collide'. The track, which was unveiled today, is said to have ripped off the song 'Penguin' by Avicii - an up-and-coming Swedish DJ better known under his UK guise Tim Berg. The song's production is instead credited to Sandy Vee, who is best known for working on Rihanna's 'Only Girl (in the World)', David Guetta's 'Where Them Girls At' and Alexis Jordan's 'Good Girl'. "Ministry of Sound signed Avicii a year ago and have been working on vocal ideas for over six months on the track," a source close to Ministry of Sound said. "Pete Tong, Annie (more)...

Buy your plane tickets, kids. Believe it or not, the 2011 Winter Music Conference is just around the corner. And we're not the only ones getting ready for the mother of all dance-music events; Swedish House Mafia's Steve Angello, and his rapidly expanding label Size Records, is already busy planning for this year's festivities.
"I'm doing a Size party again like last year, but [this year], it's going to be big," Angello told MTV News.
Not that last year's Size Matters pool party at the Eden Rock was small, by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, with names like Afrojack, Laidback Luke and Funkagenda touching the quadruple Pioneer Cdj 2000 setup, it was one of the premier pool parties to catch. When the always-humble Angello said "big," he really meant "massive" — so massive,...
