Dr. Leigh Rozetta is a young, maverick scientist, who’s been living in a secret underground Government facility since the outbreak began two years earlier. After constant failed attempts to find a cure, Leigh sneaks away to return to her parent’s house. On her way she crosses paths with Seph and Mckay, two militant survivalists. With nightfall close at hand, the three of them know they need to seek shelter, as the Sick are more active in the dark. Boarding themselves up in Leigh’s parents house, the plan is simple: survive the night. But with the Sick surrounding the house and their own tensions through the roof, they’ll be lucky if anyone makes it out alive.

A killer stalks a group of party goers who are throwing a Halloween bash inside a deserted department store.
Frustrating addition to the Halloween horror movie sub-genre has some good ideas, but fails to execute those good ideas in a meaningful way. Black Eve takes place on Halloween, but the story could have token place on any other day of the year, because Black Eve fails to do anything that properly pays tribute to the holiday. Veronika London's character is a take charge, pregnant nun out for a good time. This character should have made for a devilishly good time, right? Wrong, because her screen time is so limited and she isn't given much of anything to do. There's some stylish camera work here and there. Too bad it isn't more evident throughout the entire film.

As evidence of the sad reality that financing for independent projects is getting harder and harder to come by, director/producer Justin McConnell of Canadian company Unstable Ground has informed us that production of his upcoming horror film The Eternal has been postponed until 2011. However, that's not stopping McConnell from proceeding with a slightly less ambitious film: The lower budget horror/thriller The Collapsed begins shoots in Toronto during August-September, 2010.
With regard to The Eternal (click here for more info), McConnell says, "The Dtv market is close to dead, and The Eternal as packaged, with the budget and cast that we have attached, is too much of a risk for most investors, given the economy. It’s difficult to get an original independent film budgeted between $2-$3 million off the ground without A-list attachment; therefore, we’re going to rework the project to target a lower production budget and continue to move forward.

Director and writer Jason Horton completed his film studies at the University of New Orleans, while creating his own production company Zapruter Productions. His first feature was entitled Rise of the Undead released in 2005 and he followed up with the apocalyptic feature Edges of Darkness. Both of these films were in the horror genre, but Horton branched out this year to release the dramatic thriller Trap. Now, this director, producer, writer, promoter and most recently distributor takes some time off from this latest production Monsters in the Woods to talk about independent filmmaking and the hurdles of low budget film distribution. Black Eve is a Canadian produced horror film that is now finished with shooting and just getting ready to create dark dreams. The film stars musical artist, producer, and rising actor Neil Green, who was interviewed here (Neil Green Interview). The film will be released on Halloween 2010 and the story is definitely out of someone's nightmare. Character Jewel (Eva James) awakens to find all of her friends dead and Green's character, the Man chasing her through isolated halls and abandoned rooms. Seeing your friends bloody corpses is as nightmarish as dreams come. Also, this is not the type of fantasy you want to fall asleep to, but Black Eve will excite those willing to face the darkness of unknown killers. The first teaser trailer is below and the dialogue is ominously delivered by Green himself as the Man. When is the last time a horror film had a voice-over from the villain?...

Too many coincidences to count this weekend. The Disappearance of Alice Creed has a very similar sounding premise to that of Jason Horton's Trap, where a young girl is kidnapped, but then turns the captors against themselves. Writer, producer, and actor Neil Green told this reviewer that there are only really twelve stories that can be told i.e. man vs. nature, man vs. man etc. The appearance of Trap and The Disappearance of Alice Creed in the same week makes this statement true. Other details on The Disappearance include an April 30th release date in the United Kingdom with distribution rights already sold for North America (theatrical). Have a look at the synopsis here for The Disappearance and read the review for Horton's Trap below, sound similar?

We’ve all heard of the famously shady Hollywood accounting. You know, the kind that moves numbers and dollar signs around until even Titanic somehow fails to make a profit when it comes time to pay out the backend points. Low Budget, a new feature-film-turned-web-series on KoldCast TV from Canadian production company Capital j. Films, has a concept inspired by just such accounting practices. The series revolves around actor/writer Jaye Wolfgang (Pat Thornton) and director/producer Jason Rosa (Neil Green). They run a fledgling Hollywood production company that’s never actually produced anything besides a stack of unpaid bills. They’re even startled when the phone rings, assuming it had been cut off. But luckily it wasn’t yet, because the voice on the other end of the line is a naïve Canadian producer who hires them site unseen to make a travel series of vacation hotspots in Canada.
