Christian Davin, head of comedy marketing for Amazon Studios, is stepping down from his position at the end of this week, sources have confirmed to TheWrap.
Davin has spent the past year overseeing marketing campaigns for Amazon titles like Eddie Murphy’s “Coming 2 America” and Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” which went on to earn two Oscar nominations. He was hired in April 2020 from Netflix, where he served as he served as VP of global creative marketing on films like “Roma” and “The Irishman.” He has also held senior marketing positions at Warner Bros. MGM and 20th Century Fox, the latter of which saw him work on the marketing campaign for the original “Borat” film.
Davin reported to CMO of Marketing for Amazon Studios and Prime Video, Ukonwa Ojo and worked closely with studio head Jennifer Salke. A successor has not yet been announced.

We first told you about Netflix and Warner Bros. marketing executive Christian Davin’s arrival at Amazon Studios a little more than a year ago, and now he is leaving, Deadline has confirmed.
While Amazon has reorganized its marketing department ala a TV studio under CMO Ukonwa Ojo, who was hired last September, into such departments as thriller, comedy, unscripted, etc.; I hear Davin was the last marketing suit with film experience left. There’s been a lot of changes at Amazon lately, i.e. PR people have been promoted or reassigned to other posts in the company. All of this begs the question whether room is being made for team MGM/United Artists Releasing — even though that acquisition won’t get locked down reportedly until later this year or next.

Exclusive: Amazon Studios has put in development The Star Chamber, a thriller drama inspired by the 1983 Michael Douglas film of the same name, from Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s Vendetta Productions and Fox 21 Television Studios. The project stems from Vendetta’s deal at 20th Century Fox TV and Fox 21 TV Studios, divisions of Disney TV Studios.
Written by Turner (Up In the Air), The Star Chamber series gives the movie a gender twist. It follows a revered female federal appellate court judge in San Francisco.
