The chaotic adventures of Joker’s psychopathic girlfriend and partner in crime, Harley Quinn are set to come out soon, as the DC animated black comedy superhero show’s Season 4 is marked for a July release.
The last season of ‘Harley Quinn’ began going deeper into her newly branded romantic relationship with Poison Ivy. When the season ended, Harley joined the Bat-Family while Ivy was poised to lead the Legion of Doom. In a funny twist, Batgirl is now the head of the Bat-Family as Bruce Wayne ended up being arrested for tax evasion.
Talking about the upcoming season and Harley’s new heroic role in the show with TVLine, showrunner Justin Halpern said, quoted by Collider: “Things are so binary in the superhero world. Like, there’s a bad guy, there’s a good guy, and the feeling you have to be one of those things. There’s also the idea of,...

This post contains spoilers for season 3 of "Harley Quinn."
Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker are two of the key creative voices behind two of my favorite shows on TV right now, "Abbott Elementary" and "Harley Quinn." At first glance, those projects may seem like polar opposites of each another: One is an incredibly charming network sitcom, and the other is an ultra-violent, R-rated animated series set in the world of DC Comics. But the primary element they share (aside from a terrific sense of humor) is a palpable care for its characters; the writer-producer-showrunners make sure to give everyone relatable emotional stakes, even if they're sometimes operating in a heightened comedic environment.
This week, I had the pleasure of having a long discussion with Halpern and Schumacker about both shows. We spoke about the newly released "Harley Quinn" Valentine's Day special, the "will they, won't they" story arc between Janine and Gregory on "Abbott,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special.”
“Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” is a lot like “When Harry Met Sally,” if “When Harry Met Sally” had prominently featured a demon who speaks in rhymes to sell sex pills or a sentient lump of clay who falls in love with his own ass.
Not every part of the special is that crass (even though most of it is): “Harley Quinn” showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern wanted to devise what Schumacker calls “a real mash-up of high-brow and low-brow, with the high-brow being Harley and Ivy’s genuine adoration of each other,” and the low-brow being … everything else.
Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) goes to dramatic lengths to plan the best Valentine’s Day of all time for Poison Ivy (Lake Bell), who just wants a quiet night in, and...

[Editor’s Note: The following interview contains spoilers for “Harley Quinn” Season 3, including the ending.]
“Harley Quinn” doesn’t save the battles for the very end.
By the time the Season 3 finale of the animated series arrives, the show has already had its usual massive “Gotham under siege” moment, this time with Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and some unlikely rivals taking on a hoard of zombified plant people unwittingly created by Batman (Diedrich Bader) and harnessed by Poison Ivy (Lake Bell). The season’s ninth episode wraps up its own large-scale conflict in a way that leaves plenty more to resolve on a personal level.
Not only is that in line with the structural rhythms of past seasons (Doctor Psycho’s attack last season and Scarecrow’s the season before that each happened in penultimate episodes), it’s by design for a show with more than citywide destruction on its mind.

Guess what, losers! Your favorite Otp is back for another round! That's right, Harlivy will never die because "Harley Quinn" is coming back for season four at HBO Max.
This is rather surprising news because, well, if you've been living under a rock the past month, HBO Max hasn't been in the business of renewing things for a little while, especially not superhero or animated projects. This all started when Warner Bros. Discovery, under the leadership of David Zaslav, canceled both the live-action "Batgirl" and the animated "Scoob! Holiday Haunt" movies after they had both finished filming, in an effort to cut down on costs. In the days after, HBO Max also started canceling and vaulting titles left and right, removing them from the platform without explanation, many of them animated shows.
