Chicago – There are good movies, there are bad movies, and then there are the movies that are just strangely non-existent. The Kevin James comedy “Here Comes the Boom,” recently released on DVD and Blu-ray, falls into that gap in-between. The movie has a good heart but it’s so predictable that its complete lack of real humor leaves it just bland. There’s nothing horribly wrong with “Boom” but there’s nothing to praise either. It is mediocre in every way and will appeal to only hardcore fans of James or Mma.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
I’d actually call myself one of the former. I saw every episode of “The King of Queens” and keep waiting for Kevin James to find his breakout role. He needs to leave the Happy Madison people behind because they keep wasting his talents. Sadly, that seems impossible for James. He must have signed a contract. And...

Here Comes the Boom
Directed by: Frank Coraci
Cast: Kevin James, Henry Winkler, Salma Hayek, Bas Rutten, Charice
Running Time: 1 hr 45 mins
Rating: PG
Due Out: February 5, 2013
Plot: When the principal announces the school’s music program is going to be cut, the lackadaisical biology teacher (James) decides to participate in Mma in order to save it and the job of the music teacher (Winkler).
Who’S It For? If the comedy stylings of Kevin James appeal to you, you’re probably already planning on watching this. Everyone else should find some other way to spend their time.
Movie:
Everything about Here Comes the Boom is obvious and unearned. Characters end up exactly where you think they will, even if it makes no logical sense. The word hero gets thrown around the way you’d imagine Kevin James falling down as a punch line would be. It doesn...

Here Comes the Boom tells the story of Scott Voss, a high-school biology teacher who goes to the mat — literally, by competing in mixed martial arts events — for his school’s music program when it is threatened by cutbacks. Kevin James plays Voss; he also cowrote and produced the film. “I’ve always been a fan [of mixed martial arts],” says James. “The reason I wanted to do the movie is that I love the sport. I love the athletes; I think it’s great that they can fight and then, when it’s over, they can hug, be buddies, grab a beer. [...]...

Comedy movie Here Comes the Boom takes one part of the story of Warrior and injects the kind of laughs Kevin James provides.

When budget cuts threaten to cancel some of the school’s programs, including laying off the music teacher (Henry Winkler), Voss decides to raise money by fighting in mixed martial arts bouts. Another week, another box-office record smashed by Sam Mendes’ Skyfall. The twenty-third Bond became the fastest movie ever to take £50million after it amassed a grand total of £53million in just ten days. It’s now only a few million shy of The Dark Knight Rises total Box Office haul and looks odds on to become the highest grossing film of the year. It took a whopping £16million this past week and is absolutely streets ahead of Madagascar 3 which remains in second place with a solid and yet comparatively meagre £2.8million weekly haul. It really is astonishing just how popular Skyfall is proving to be. Everyone expected it to do well but to outshine mega-blockbuster franchise juggernauts like Avengers and Batman is really quite something. Turns out there’s life in the old tux-wearing dog yet.

The good news is that Adam Sandler, executive producer of Here Comes the Boom, doesn't appear on screen. The bad news is that overweight, baby-faced Kevin James does. He plays Scott Voss, a lazy, unmotivated 42-year-old biology teacher at a failing Boston high school, who returns to his university sport of wrestling to save the school's music department from being disbanded and its dedicated elderly teacher (a prissy Henry Winkler) from being made redundant. He does this by becoming a human punchbag competing as a mixed martial arts cage fighter.
Even less prepossessing than George Formby or Norman Wisdom, who had similar romantic yearnings, James sets his heart on wooing the school's beautiful nurse (Salma Hayek). The film aims to be simultaneously a coarse sentimental little-guy comedy, a tale of embracing the American dream, and an increasingly serious underdog fight movie on the lines of Rocky. It fails on all three counts.

New 'Here Comes The Boom' movie delivered great comedy, action, storyline & more. Columbia Pictures (Sony) released there new comedy flick "Here Comes The Boom" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out ,and thought it was excellent. It served up lots of good comedy, fighting action, and more. It also delivered a very feel-good storyline. It stars: Kevin James, Salma Hayek, and Henry Winkler. In the new flick, character Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a slacker school teacher who's lost his passion for teaching, and even discourages the kids from learning. However,he meets a really nice music teacher named Marty Streb (Henry Winkler),and finds out he's about to have another child in his old age. Later on, the school reveals they have to make budget cutbacks and Marty's music class is going to be a casualty of it unless they're able to raise $40,000. Scott decides to stand up for Marty,...

Actor Kevin James has starred in some pretty terrible movies. It's a shame that he's become a part of the Happy Madison team that has wantonly doled out dreck film after dreck film. He's a comedic actor that has some real talent, and he's capable of being physically funny while maintaining a sense of boyish vulnerability. Here Comes the Boom, which he also co-scripted, is the closest James has come to making a good film, and in it, he exhibits some of the strengths mentioned earlier. The trouble with Here Comes the Boom is that it has way too much of that Happy Madison brand of comedy, so any goodwill the film builds is diluted.
Middle school teacher Scott Voss (James) isn't a very good teacher. He rides the coattails of a Teacher of the Year award he won ten years ago and is a constant thorn in the side...

Chicago – Seeing the words “Happy Madison Production” on any film means a broad, unfunny and formulaic comedy is about to emerge – usually with company founder Adam Sandler. Although “Here Comes the Boom” has some of those dulling elements, it’s Kevin James who is sincere and motivated as a cage match fighter.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The set-up to the premise – James is a teacher at a school that is cutting it’s music program and popular music teacher, so naturally James fights in mixed martial arts cage matches to earn money to save the day – is straight out of the Happy Madison playbook. What separates it from Sandler-land is the everyman charm of Kevin James, and the odd collection of characters that help his achieve his Ultimate Fighting Championship dream. With shades of “Rocky” and a unique approach to filming the fight sequences, “Here Comes the Boom” is not bad.

Director Frank Coraci's Here Comes the Boom is the classic underdog tale of a slacker high school biology teacher (Kevin James) who takes on a mission much larger than anything he had previously undertaken and in the process, garners the support of a motley crew of the people he loves.
Kevin James stars as Scott Voss, a forty-two year old teacher at Wilkinson High School in Boston, Ma. Once a Division I wrestling star in college, he has since become a biology teacher, indifferent towards his students and incapable of making it to class on-time. The one thing he is intent on doing is convincing school nurse Bella Flores (played the perpetually graceful and bafflingly ageless Salma Hayek) to date him. But tragedy strikes in the form of a threat to cut down the school’s extra-curricular programs, particularly the music program, due to budget cuts. Among those threatened...

Ever since Kevin James’ star sitcom, The King of Queens, ended its ten year run back in 2007, the loveable former jolly Ips delivery driver has kept a low profile. Beginning with 2007’s I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry, it seemed that the only time he showed up on the radar, it was when he either co-stared alongside Adam Sandler or headlined a movie for Sandler’s Happy Madison production company. This particular effort, Here Comes the Boom, falls into the latter category. Other semi-frequent guest stars of Sandler’s productions include Henry Winkler (The Waterboy), Gary Valentine (Zookeeper), Richie Minervini (Grown Ups), and director Frank Coraci (Click). Coraci and James actually work together on last year’s Zookeeper and while this effort is head and shoulders better, it...

Here Comes the Boom
Directed by: Frank Coraci
Cast: Kevin James, Henry Winkler, Bas Rutten, Selma Hayek
Running Time: 1 hr 45 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: October 12, 2012
Plot: A lazy science teacher (James) decides he can earn money to save his school’s music program by participating in Mixed Martial Arts fights.
Who’S It For? If you enjoyed spending ten dollars to see Kevin James ride a Segway, or run into a wall in the past, then here’s an upgrade: in Here Comes the Boom, he gets punched in the face more than a couple times. Aside from that, this Adam Sandler-produced comedy is for those who want something to watch while they eat their popcorn.
Expectations: There’s always a chance for an underdog surprise, or a hint of emotion to be felt. What if this movie made me feel something? Wouldn’t that be a nice surprise?...

Call me crazy, but Kevin James doesn’t seem to be an inherently funny guy. Sure, he has an odd, cylindrical shape that promises lots of humorous pratfalls, but he also possesses a kind, Everyman-nish face that actually makes us not want to see him too hurt, or humiliated, or debased. He’s been mentored by Adam Sandler (whose Happy Madison company produced several other James vehicles, including this latest), but we don’t expect from him Sandler’s sociopathic mischief, or Ben Stiller’s owlish klutziness. James seems physically awkward, but likably ordinary. There, but for the grace of an occasional salad, go we.Here Comes the Boom gets a lot of mileage out of its star’s inherent likability. True, the setup promises lots of physical humor, and we do initially get quite a bit of it. James plays Scott Voss, a once-promising, now-disaffected high school biology teacher...

Review of Frank Coraci's Here Comes The Boom Kevin James takes a licking and keeps on ticking. There’s that foul-mouthed teddy starring opposite Mark Wahlberg in the year’s best, sex-obsessed comedy Ted. Now, just in time to go to the cinema with your parents, arrives the full-grown teddy bear a.k.a. Kevin James in director Frank Coraci’s cuddly, feel-good comedy Here Comes the Boom. James, still best known for his nine-year stint on the hit sitcom The King of Queens, plays Scott Voss, a Boston high school teacher who’s lost the spark for his job and continues to let down his school and his students. Without explanation, something clicks inside Scott when he learns that Marty Streb (Henry Winkler), the school’s dedicated music teacher, will soon lose his job due to budget cuts.

Over a year has passed since Zookeeper, so the multiplexes are overdue for another family friendly comedy from Kevin James. Since his TV sitcom ” The King of Queens ” ended James has been a matinee fixture going back to Paul Blart: Mall Cop in 2009. And he’s now firmly established as a member of Adam Sandler’s staple of film stars ( along with Sandler’s old SNL buddies ) as either a headline or supporting player ( in Grown Ups and its upcoming sequel ) or lead. Since Sandler went for the more adult audiences with last Summer’s under-performing That’S My Boy, James is being sent in to scoop up the pre-teen box-office bucks. The new flick, Here Comes The Boom, is an odd mix of subjects. He’s a teacher, so he can have cute interactions with some youngsters. But a good deal of it is set in the ultra-violent world of mixed martial arts competitions.

It’s so bad, it’s pretty good.
Former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42-year-old biology teacher in a failing, financially strapped, Boston high school. Keeping it to contemporary times, when cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler), the stakes are raised, and Scott begins to raise money by dabbling as an Mma fighter. Of course everyone thinks Scott’s nuts – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) – but in his do-gooder journey, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.

I’m making a prediction: critics will hate Kevin James’ “Here Comes the Boom”, but moviegoers will love it. Or love it-ish, enough to make it another feather in the man’s box office cap, at least. That’s based on the last half dozen movies that James has done, from “The Zookeeper” to “Paul Blart”. What can I say? I think moviegoers just love watching a slightly chubby guy getting the girl even while he’s tripping all over himself to get from Point A to Point B. But hey, at the end of the day, his heart is in the right place, and really, isn’t that all that matters? (Wow, even I want to punch myself after typing that last sentence.) Anywhatever, check out four clips from “Here Comes the Boom”. In the comedy Here Comes the Boom, former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a...

Watch new clips from Frank Coraci's Mma action comedy Here Comes the Boom, starring Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler, Joe Rogan, Bas Rutten, Reggie Lee, Greg Germann, Charice, Germaine De Leon and Greg Paul. Sony sends this one out to theaters on October 12th and it looks like a blast judging from what I saw in the clips and trailer. How do you fix America’s schools? In the new trailer for Here Comes the Boom, the answer is a few blows to the face.
Kevin James plays Scott Voss, a complacent high school biology teacher past his glory days. When the school cancels all extracurricular activities due to a budget deficit, Scott tries to raise thousands of dollars to save them by learning mixed martial arts and becoming a human punching bag.
Through cage matches, dislocated limbs, and a hard-to-get Salma Hayek, Scott also teaches his students a lesson about not being a quitter. Or at least how to...

It’s funny, I was covering this Kevin James movie back when it didn’t even have a title. Now it’s gotten a title — “Here Comes the Boom” (maybe they should not have given it a title after all) — and a trailer to boot. If you’re a Kevin James fan, this is definitely something you’ll be rushing to go see. But if you thought his “The Zoo Keeper” and “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” were less than, er, cinematic gold, well, why even talk about it? My nephews happen to think James is hilarious. I think he’s okay. James vomiting on the Mma fighter after taking him down is pretty hilarious, though, but maybe that’s just me, I appreciate a good throw up joke every now and then. In the comedy Here Comes the Boom, former collegiate wrestler...
