‘Into The Ashes’ Is A Stylish Revenge Thriller That Relies Too Heavily On Genre Conventions [Review]
Aaron Harvey’s visually interesting, but ultimately lethargic, Western-noir “Into the Ashes” attempts to synthesize brooding character study with a violent action film, but instead, ends up falling short of being a quality example of either. Favoring large sections of silence before violent outbursts, Harvey’s latest directorial effort has style but is bogged down by thin characterization and a by-the-numbers plot that the film never manages to transcend.
“Into the Ashes” follows reformed criminal Nick (Luke Grimes), who is trying to live a simple life with a job at an upholstery store and a loving wife (Marguerite Moreau).

"A man can only see so much darkness before he goes blind..." Rlje Films has released an official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled Into The Ashes, the latest from filmmaker Aaron Harvey. Described as reminiscent of "hard-boiled action/thrillers from the '70s/'80s", Into The Ashes is about an ex-con trying to settle down in rural Alabama who believes he has escaped his violent past, only to find his old crew hasn’t forgotten about him or the money he stole. And they don't want to let him get away. Sounds a lot like every other gritty rural crime thriller, and it looks like every other one, too. Starring Luke Grimes as Nick, along with Frank Grillo, Marguerite Moreau, Robert Taylor, James Badge Dale, Brady Smith, Andrea Frankle, Rob Mello, Scott Peat, David Maldonado, David Cade, and Jeff Pope. The best part of this is Grillo...

Hey, look! Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum actually co-stars in a new movie coming out with William Fichtner (Elysium, 12 Strong) called The Neighbor. This actually looks like a decent thriller that would be worth checking out... if this trailer didn't basically tell us the whole damn story!
The story follows a "middle-aged man (Fichtner) in a stagnant marriage becomes voyeuristically obsessed with an attractive young woman (Jessica McNamee) when she and her seemingly abusive husband (Rosenbaum) move in next door."
If you're a fan of either of these actors, maybe you'll want to check this out. Who knows, maybe there's some kind of twist in the story that isn't in this trailer. The Neighbor was directed by Aaron Harvey (Catch .44) and it's set to be released in theaters and on VOD on January 26th, 2018.
Have you ever had any experiences with crazy or creepy neighbors? I have!

"What were you doing in my house?" "I heard a scream." Vertical Entertainment has debuted the official trailer for a low-key thriller titled The Neighbor, from director Aaron Harvey. The indie drama stars the very talented character actor William Fichtner (last seen in 12 Strong, Elysium, The Lone Ranger, Drive Angry, The Dark Knight) as a reserved man stuck in a stagnant marriage whose life is upended when an attractive young woman and her husband move in to the home next door to them. The cast includes Jessica McNamee, Jean Louisa Kelly, Michael Rosenbaum, Colin Woodell, and Erich Anderson. I can't tell if there's a big twist in this, but it seems like a solidly engaging friendly-neighbor thriller. Check it out. Title: Catch .44 Directed by: Aaron Harvey Starring: Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll, Brad Dourif, Forest Whitaker and Bruce Willis Running time: 94 minutes, Rated R, Available on Blu-ray Tess (Malin Akerman) and her two friends Kara (Nikki Reed) and Dawn (Deborah Ann Woll) are given a task to intercept a drug shipment for crime boss Mel (Bruce Willis), but the job turns out it’s not as simple as anticipated. Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, and Deborah Ann Woll are three highly motivated, gun-toting ladies. They’re on a job for Bruce Willis. Then somehow Forest Whitaker gets in on the action. Find out how it all goes down when Anchor Bay releases Aaron Harvey’s crime thriller “Catch .44″ on DVD and Blu-ray December 20th, 2011. Until then, Anchor Bay has kindly given us three copies of the film on Blu-ray to give away to three lucky winners. Head on below for details. In the tradition of Pulp Fiction, Traffic and Go, and from the producers of Machete and 16 Blocks, Anchor Bay Films takes aim with the December 20th release of Catch .44 on Blu-ray™ and DVD. Oscar® winner Forest Whitaker(The Last King of Scotland, “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior”), Bruce Willis (the Die Hard films, Red, The Expendables) and Malin Akerman (Watchmen, The Proposal, Couples Retreat) lead an all-star cast...

"In The Tradition Of The Usual Suspects And Reservoir Dogs" proclaims the back of BluRay box of the copy we received. If only. The spirit may be willing, but the movie from writer and director Aaron Harvey is weak. Seemingly cobbled together out of leftover ideas from every movie that came in the wake of those aforementioned films, with a big debt owed to Quentin Tarantino, "Catch .44" is a bunch of stylistic choices looking for something resembling a movie to hang on to. As anyone who watched a crime movie in the post-"Pulp Fiction" wave knows, subverting linear storytelling was a hallmark of every film that immediately followed. So "Catch .44" doesn't just start with one flashback, it starts with two. First we get a brief moment with a voiceover by crime lord Mel (Bruce Willis) before we flip back to the sequence around which the rest of the movie will orbit.

Bruce Willis, Malin Akerman in an exclusive clip from Aaron Harvey's Catch .44. In this first clip, Malin Akerman's Tes is unimpressed by Mel (Bruce Willis). Also in the cast of the action drama which is both scripted and helmed by Harvey, are Forest Whitaker, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll and Brad Dourif. In Catch .44, Tes and her two cohorts Kara (Nikki Reed) and Sara (Reila Aphrodite) are tasked with intercepting a double-cross drug shipment for crime boss Mel (Bruce Willis) at an isolated diner. However, after a chain of events, everyone realizes no one is who they seem to be, and the job may be something other than eliminating the competition. What was supposed to be the following of simple instructions, ends up turning into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. The film is rated R for for strong bloody violence, pervasive language and some sexual content.

I find it hard to believe that in the year 2011, there are people out there still making Pulp Fiction knock-offs. I mean, I get that it was an influential movie and a lot of people loved it (as I did as well), but the whole "hitman dark comedy" thing has gotten pretty stale over the last decade and a half. Nevertheless, here we have Catch .44, a direct-to-dvd thriller starring Bruce Willis as Mel, a crime boss who gets ripped off by three girls (Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll) and then seeks revenge. I'm not saying that no one else can make movies about hitmen, but something about this trailer just reeks of film school cliches. Indeed, it's a mystery how second time director Aaron Harvey was able to assemble a cast that includes Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Michael Rosenbaum, but something tells me producer Megan Ellison...

After helming the little-known horror flick The Evil Woods, (Now Streaming on Hulu) writer-director Aaron Harvey has jumped into the big leagues with Catch .44, an action-packed crime-drama that boasts star power like Bruce Willis, Malin Akerman, Forest Whitaker and Brad Dourif.
Akerman heads an all-girl crime crew – that includes vamps Nikki Reed (Twilight) and Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) – in this twist-filled flick. Contracted by an unhinged dealer (Willis seemingly channeling Woody Harrelson) to snatch a drug shipment, these gun-packing gals enter a world of betrayal, bloodshed and bizarre Scarface imitations from a bewildering Whitaker.
The trailer below revels in weirdness with grindhouse graphics, confounding connections, and some thoroughly odd performances from Willis and Whitaker. Enjoy:

Movies are a funny thing. Case in point: "Catch .44" features an all-star cast (Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Akerman among others) and a high octane plot about a bunch of criminals who double cross each other during a Mexican standoff.
It seems like just the kind of film that should be making a big splash at the box office -- except it's only being released in a couple cities before going straight to DVD.
Why? Well, that's the big question -- and since we now have our first look at the new trailer for "Catch .44," it's a question you can try to answer for yourself. Should this movie get a wider release? You make the call!

Today in trailers that make little to no sense – Aaron Harvey‘s Catch .44! Big bossman Neil told us a smidgen about this film back in July of last year, when cast additions Nikki Reed and Deborah Ann Woll were announced – and while that piece of news sold the film as a lady assassin flick, there’s not much of that to be seen in this first trailer for the film. Leading lady Malin Akerman is indeed front and center, but she looks like less an accomplished assassin (with an equally as talented and attractive crew backing her) and more like a pretty gal trying to make a quick buck with a big gun. But, hey, Bruce Willis is there doing an older Dov Charney impersonation, along with Forest Whitaker having a whole bunch of fun experimenting with some truly bad accents. Guns! Drugs! A secluded diner! Confusion and hijinks! After the break...

While some movies are merely doomed for store shelves as a straight-to-dvd/Blu-Ray release, there are a few that are good enough to spend a little bit of time in theaters. One of those movies is Catch .44, a darkly funny action thriller starring Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Akerman which will hit New York and Charlotte, Nc theaters (only) starting December 9th and will then be available on Blu-Ray & DVD on December 20. Whitaker and Willis seem to be having a lot of fun in this double-cross drug deal gone wrong, at least from the looks of this trailer, and Akerman at least looks pretty as usual. Watch below! Here's the trailer for Aaron Harvey's action thriller Catch .44 originally from ComingSoon: Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, Bruce Willis and Malin Akerman lead an all-star cast in this suspense thriller where everyone has an agenda and a Magnum to...

‘Catch .44′ Trailer: Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Akerman Stumble Through a Comedic Caper
You might remember some casting [1] notes [2] about a film called Catch .44. They hit in the summer of 2010, and the names involved in the film are notable, at the very least: Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker, Malin Akerman, Deborah Ann Woll, Brad Dourif and Shea Wigham. We've finally got a look at the film and it is easy to see why we've heard almost nothing about this since the first casting was announced: it looks like barely reheated post-Tarantino or Guy Ritchie crime foolishness. Still, check out the trailer below just to hear Whitaker's accent. I'm probably not the only one who thinks that restaurant robbery scene feels an awful lot like Pulp Fiction, while a lot of the rest of the movie plays like a college-age medium trying to channel the spirit of Guy Ritchie's Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. You couldn't walk into a video...

Today we have a trailer for the upcoming suspense thriller "Catch .44," starring Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Akerman. Check it out below. Plot: For Tes (Akerman) and her two cohorts Kara (Nikki Reed) and Tara (Deborah Ann Woll), the job sounded simple enough: intercept a double-cross drug shipment for their crime boss Mel (Willis) at an isolated diner. But when an unstoppable chain of events unfolds, everyone soon realizes no one is who they seem and the job may be something other than eliminating the competition. The new movie is written and directed by Aaron Harvey, and is set to appear in New York and Charlotte, Nc theaters on December 9th. It will then be available on DVD and Blu-ray on December 20th. Trailer: If you cannot see the player, click here.

There are a lot of guns in writer/director Aaron Harvey’s “Catch .44″. And a lot of people with said guns cocking them at each other. Remember when that used to be a novel idea? Anyways, “Catch .44″ opens in New York and (of all places) Charlotte December 9th before becoming available on Blu-ray and DVD December 20th. It’s yet another movie that makes you wonder who Bruce Willis owes a big favor to that he’s essentially lending his name and face to a (mostly) direct-to-dvd action movie. In any case, Forest Whitaker affecting some kind of “Scarface” accent should be a hoot and a half. For Tes (Akerman) and her two cohorts Kara (Nikki Reed, the “Twilight” franchise) and Tara (Deborah Ann Woll, “True Blood”), the job sounded simple enough: intercept a double-cross drug shipment for their crime boss Mel (Willis) at an isolated diner. But...

Malin Akerman works hard for the money in Catch .44.
Bruce Willis (Red) and Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker (Repo Men) star in the 2011 independent crime film Catch .44, written and directed by Aaron Harvey (The Evil Woods).
The movie’s story revolves around three bad-ass beauties who work in a strip joint (Couples Retreat’s Malin Akerman, Twilight’s Nikki Reed and Deborah Ann Woll from TV’s True Blood) and their plot to double-cross their equally bad-ass boss (Willis) when he sends them on a job to hijack a shipment of drugs making its way up from Mexico. Well, wouldn’t you know that the double-crosses lead to triple-crosses and all other manner of betrayals involving a crusty trucker, a nutty short-order cook and a psychotic hit man disguised as a highway patrolman (Whitaker)!

Marketed by Sierra Affinity, Catch .44 is the last action thriller for actor Bruce Willis and a slew of cohorts. Also starring are Forest Whitaker, Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Deborah Ann Woll ("True Blood") and Brad Dourif (Fading of the Cries). The first film poster is available for Catch .44 and in the graphic there is a message: "if you are going down, take them with you." The graphic is comic book styled and the synopsis is larger than life, as el jefe (the boss) lures three "female assassins" in for one last mission. Charlie's Angels anyone? A specific release date has not been announced, but expect Catch .44 in theatres in 2011.

We've got big eyes for a title Sierra/Affinity is repping in Oren Moverman's Rampart which I predict great things for, and Matt Piedmont directorial debut film which might confirm the genius I found in his Sundance winning short films. Bruce Willis, about to turn 56 and Demi Moore's former husband, was introduced by 2011 Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais as "Ashton Kutcher's father." Kutcher, 32 (according to the IMDb), is Moore's current husband. In 2010, Willis starred in the box-office flop Cop Out, co-starred with Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman in the sleeper hit Red, and had a featured role in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Among Willis' upcoming movies is Mabrouk El Mechri's thriller The Cold Light of Day, which also features Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill. Also, Aaron Harvey's Catch .44, with The Twilight Saga's Nikki Reed and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker. Photo: © HFPA. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Two famous vampire ladies, Nikki Reed and Deborah Ann Woll have been cast together for an upcoming indie drama Catch .44.
Like we previously said, this project could be Aaron Harvey’s directorial debut, but the greatest cast is involved in the whole thing, since we already know Forest Whitaker, Bruce Willis and Malin Akerman have all signed on to star in it as well.
The film is about “three women that get caught up in a unique situation where they deal with a crazy hitman, a trucker and a delusional cook.”
Malin Akerman will be the lead female, Whitaker will be the hitman and Willis will play the crime boss that set everything in motion.
Kate Mara was previously reported as being in talks to star, but her manager has confirmed that she is no longer involved with the project.
So now we have quite interesting trio: Akerman, Reed and Woll,...

Who knew that all it would take to bring the worlds of "Twilight" and HBO's "True Blood" together was Bruce Willis? Nikki Reed and Deborah Ann Woll are now confirmed for starring roles in "Catch .44," Deadline reports. They join Willis, Malin Ackerman and Forest Whitaker in a story that follows three hottie female assassins who are sent off on a suicide mission. The movie, which starts shooting in Louisiana on July 8, will be directed by relative newcomer Aaron Harvey, who made his 2007 debut with "The Evil Woods."...

Yesterday, I got to go along to the press conference for Twilight: Eclipse where Nikki Reed was one of those attending (view my photos here). Had I seen this news earlier, I could have tried to ask a cheeky question about it to get more info but unfortunately, Deadline broke it last night.
They report that Twilight Saga actress, Nikki Reed and Deborah Ann Woll from vampire TV series, True Blood, have signed on to join Bruce Willis, Malin Ackerman and Forest Whitaker in the movie Catch .44.
They also give us a short plot-line:
The film is “about three gorgeous female assassins sent on a job that might be their last.”
The movie is directed by Aaron Harvey and is scheduled to start filming in Louisiana.
Visit Deadline for the full lowdown.

Sounds interesting.

While I’m a big fan of all things weird and unusual, HBO’s “True Blood” may be just too weird for me to enjoy. The head spinning and overall lack of shirts is just a bit too much for me. However, it does not stop me for saying that Deborah Ann Woll is an attractive woman and she’s one of the babes in question joining Catch .44.
Mike Fleming over at Deadline reports that Woll will join a fellow bloodsucker, Nikki Reed of the Twilight movies as well as the previously announced Bruce Willis, Forest “Ghost Dog” Whitaker and Malin Ackerman.
The film has a very Grindhouse feel to with it. Check out the long line:

They’re like the parallel universe version of “Charlie’s Angels”, where instead of saving people, they sort of kill them. Well, not sort of, that’s actually what they do. See, they’re hitmen! Her, hitwomen. And not just any ol hitwomen, either, but “three gorgeous female assassins sent on a job that might be their last.” Mind you, they’re not plain, or just mildly attractive, but gorgeous. Kinda hard to blend into the environment for the kill when you stick out like a supermodel, huh? But maybe that’s how the ladies get close to their targets. Who knows the mysterious ways of the gorgeous female assassin. In any case, “Catch .44″ (get it? as .44 caliber?) is from writer/director Aaron Harvey, and has already landed its three female leads, consisting of two former vampires and a superhero: “Twilight Saga’s” Nikki Reed, “True Blood’s” Deborah Ann Woll,...

Catch 22 was a whole bag of satire, no-win situations, and bombardiers, but when you throw .44 into the mix -- presumably in revolver form -- it's time for a whole new bag. Variety reports that Malin Akerman is starring in a new indie drama called Catch .44, along with Forest Whitaker and Bruce Willis.
The brainchild of newbie director Aaron Harvey, Catch centers on Akerman and two other women who are "thrust into an extraordinary situation involving a psychopath hitman, played by Whitaker, a grizzled trucker, and a delusional line cook." Willis jumps on-board as the head crime boss who schemes up the whole scenario. I've got to say, that last little bit is what sells me. So who on earth will scheme up a plan to scare people and say: "Hey, we need to throw a delusional line cook into the mix!"? That alone makes Willis' character infinitely more interesting...

Must be great to be a new feature director and end up with a cast like this: first-timer Aaron Harvey is directing Catch .44, and he's got Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Malin Akerman on board to star. The film is about three women, led by Akerman, who get tied into a weird scenario involving "a psychopathic hitman, played by Whitaker, a grizzled trucker and a delusional line cook. Willis will play the head crime boss, the mastermind behind everything that happens." The name is a little cutesy, and the plot sounds like it could go either way...but Willis and Whitaker? Yeah, that's good enough to start with. [Variety] After the break, Jeff Fahey gets a new role, and a horror thriller with delusions of Hitchcock casts up. Fresh from the end of Lost, Jeff Fahey has been cast in Dadgum, Texas. Charles Huddleston will direct Fahey opposite Michele Martin,...
