Has two daughters, Claudia (born in 1999) and Agatha (born in 2002),
with his wife Montse, a Doctor of Law.
During his career as a coach, he managed the following professional
teams: Real Valladolid (1995-1996), CA Osasuna (1996-1997), CF
Extremadura (1997-1999), CD Tenerife (2000-2001), Valencia (2001-2004)
and Liverpool (since 2004).
Started his managerial career with the Real Madrid youth team.
As a coach, he won two Spanish Championships (2002, 2004) and the UEFA
Cup (2004) with Valencia; the Champions League (2005), the European
Super Cup (2005) and the FA Cup (2006) with Liverpool.
Born to Francisco Benítez, a hotelier, and Rosario Maudes, he is the
second of three children.
While his father supported Atlético Madrid, his mother is a big fan of
Real.
