Editor, composer, director and producer John Ottman is teaming with film and music industry executive David Franco to develop a dramatic biopic based on the life of world-renowned Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi.
The project, written by Kevin Lund and Tj Scott, has had been long-gestating, beginning 20 years ago when Ron Howard was set to direct. After many unsuccessful attempts, including with members of the famous Italian filmmaking De Laurentiis family in 2008, the project needed a new vision.
In 2018, Franco, the music producer on previous versions, brought the script to Ottman, who he saw as the man “destined to bring Vivaldi to life.” “There’s simply no talent more suited to craft this remarkable story,” he says.
Ottman immediately got to work re-shaping the story with the writers, before the Covid-19 pandemic stalled the project once again. Now, it’s finally back on track. “After all these years, we’ve never been more confident.

James Franco is an Oscar-nominated actor-director who has had his share of up-and-downs, controversies and good graces, but through it all has always remained an interesting presence in front of and behind the camera. Take a look back at 16 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born on April 19, 1978, Franco has developed a pretty notable resume since he first came to audience’s attention on the low rated but highly acclaimed TV series “Freaks and Geeks.” A year after that NBC show ended, Franco found fame in a highly praised TV biography of James Dean for which he won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy award. That success led him to a film career which has run the gamut from superhero blockbusters to Oscar nominated prestige films.

Jess Franco’s The Bloody Judge, which was theatrically released in the U.S. by Aip under the nonsensical title of Night of the Blood Monster, is one of the filmmaker’s most lavish productions. It’s one that, absent the outrageous lashings of sadistic violence and nudity that are common to Franco’s work, could almost pass for mainstream cinema.
As a helpful voiceover informs the viewer while the opening credits roll, The Bloody Judge is set in 1684, during the last days of King James II, on the eve of the Glorious Revolution that put William and Mary on the throne. Allegiance to the current king is paramount to the storyline, providing the motivation behind the increasingly sadistic actions of Judge Jeffries (Christopher Lee). Like Michael Reeves’s Witchfinder General, from 1968, Franco’s film pits its youthful protagonists against the hypocrisy and intolerance of an authoritarian regime.

Real life copied fiction in Peru when Franco Alonso Lazo Medrano took his own life and left behind recordings, apparently inspired by the breakout Netflix series 13 Reasons Why in Peru.

If you’ve spent any time on Instagram in the past year – or even just caught a passing glance at a favorite celebrity – you have likely seen a quirky, colorful dinosaur lurching across the torsos, keychains and bags of what seems like half of Hollywood. And if you’re dying to bite off that prehistoric style, you’re obviously not alone: the dino-motif sweater has got to be the biggest case of Celebrity Style Déja Vu we can remember since the days of Juicy sweatpants, with more than 15 stars sporting the style, from Julia Roberts to Millie Bobby Brown. It's almost too bad that this is Grimm's final season. Grimm Season 6 Episode 2 continued the tension of the season premiere while leavening it some fantastic humorous moments.
While it didn't exactly work out so well for Team Grimm, it was definitely enjoyable to see Renard's day soured even temporarily.
I laughed out loud when Wu and Hank blew right into the middle of the tense standoff outside Bud's repair shop to drag Renard away in handcuffs. The sheer audacity of the move was outstanding, as was Hank's no-sell reaction to Renard woging out in the interrogation.
Renard: You really think this is going to go anywhere?

Indian Summer, autumn’s first batch of orange-hued fallen leaves and New York Comic Con have all tumbled away, relegated to that odd intersection of fond memories and the comfortable knowledge of their inevitable return. The New York Comic Con, now the nation’s largest geek culture convention, seems to change each year. And after more than a decade of growth, it’s changing in many weird and wonderful ways.
I’ve been there from the beginning and, during the early years worked, on the show. We had a vision for the convention and it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. And in many ways … it hasn’t.

Ales Kot is one of the freshest, most cerebral voices in comics. He cut his teeth on DC Comics’ Suicide Squad with a run focused on the demented serial killer Jim Gordon Jr. before taking his talents to Marvel. Kot wrote two of their quirkiest titles, namely, Secret Avengers, which made supervillain Modok a full-fledged Avenger and had a good mix of references to Jorge Luis Borges and Nick Fury Jr. and Agent Coulson having existential crises in the middle of space. Speaking of space, he has also written Bucky Barnes, Winter Soldier, which followed the titular character’s trippy adventures on distant planets depicted in the style of Heavy Metal by artist Marco Rudy.
But Kot has also worked on creator owned comics as part of the Image Comics renaissance. Zero is an espionage series created by him and his Secret Avengers collaborator Michael Walsh and has found critical and commercial success.

The Interview and the geopolitical crisis it caused is arguably the most important movie-related story of recent weeks.
The story device featured in The Interview, the idea of a film featuring the assassination of the current ruling leader, is nothing new, and in fact is seen through much of film’s history. In 1941 a German-in-exile Fritz Lang shown an unsuccessful attack on Adolf Hitler in Man Hunt (this story was also told in BBC’s Rogue Male from 1976 starring Peter O’Toole). The Shaw Brothers used the actual newsreel footage of Queen Elisabeth visiting Hong-Kong (then a British colony) in their 1976 martial arts flick A Queen’s Ransom (a.k.a. The International Assassin) starring post-James Bond George Lazenby as an Ira assassin and Angela Mao as a heroine trying to stop him. Top Shot is back on History, and this time around we’re in for the somewhat obligatory All-Star season. As reality fans know, you can hardly go through a few seasons of any competition without bringing back the contestants that hooked audiences, whether they did so in a good or bad way. Top Shot isn’t likely to buck the trend, and the cast list seems to bear that out. Fan favorites like Kelly Bachand, all the way from season one, are here, as are the competitors who were chasing Most Hated Reality Star honors… I’ll let you decide who that might be.
Though a huge fan of the show, I wonder about the extent to which those in charge have paid attention to what seems to be the overall reaction to the latest season. Whether you’re keeping up with the general reactions on Twitter and similar social media outlets,...

Chicago – As the 2012-13 midseason continues to shock with its complete inability to produce a new hit and shows like “Do No Harm” and “The Job” get canceled after only two episodes while other failures like “Cult,” “Zero Hour,” “Deception” and “1600 Penn” limp to their non-renewals, networks keep throwing things at the wall and hoping they stick. The latest show begging to be liked is CBS’s modest “Golden Boy,” a twist on the cop show that might have been pitched as “How I Met Your Police Officer.” The concept is clever and some of the cast is well above average but the writing, always the most important element of a TV show, is subpar with clichéd dialogue that betrays any possible character development. A lead actor who feels a little less than golden doesn’t help.

It's been a whole month since SXSW but the next fest is just a day away, with the 11th installment of the Tribeca Film Festival, the New York-based celebration of the movies set up by Robert De Niro and producing partner Jane Rosenthal, kicking off this Wednesday, April 18th.
Running to the end of the month, this year's festival is bookended by a pair of particularly high-profile pictures: opening with "The Five-Year Engagement," the latest Judd Apatow-produced rom-com from Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel (the team behind "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "The Muppets") and closing with Joss Whedon's Marvel superhero team-up "The Avengers." And yesterday, we ran down our most anticipated titles from the fest, many of which are making their world premiere or stateside debuts.

A 36-year-old Laval, Canada man broke into Celine Dion’s home in the Montreal suburb, raided her refrigerator and drew the water to take a bath before police arrested him, the Huffington Post is reporting. Police were tipped off about the break-in after the alarm system went off. The singer and her husband, Rene Angelil, weren’t in the home at the time of the break-in, as they usually live in Florida, but they use the Laval residence when they return to Quebec. Laval police spokesman Franco Di Genova confirmed that Bedard was getting ready to take a bath, and had eaten some pastries from the refrigerator, before a canine unit responded...

There's no place like home - especially Céline Dion's. Just ask the guy who was caught after allegedly breaking in. In fact, Daniel Bedard, 36, was about to step into the bathtub of the Montreal-area residence on Monday when law officers, tipped off by the alarm system, showed up at the house with a canine unit, police tell the Associated Press. Already, they say, the bather had helped himself to some sweets from the singer's kitchen. "He opened the water faucets, was pouring a nice warmish bath [and] he even managed to eat some pastry that was in the 'fridge,'...

A woman from South Carolina will stand trial accused of breaking obscenity laws after driving her pickup truck with plastic testicles hanging from the back. Virginia Tice, 65, was ticketed in early July by Bonneau Police Chief Franco Fuda when he spotted the testicles dangling from her vehicle at a local convenience store. State law considers a bumper sticker or device indecent when it offensively describes "sexual acts, excretory functions, or parts of the human body", Reuters reports. The offence carries a maximum fine of $$445 (£272) but no jail time. Fuda said: "This is certainly not a staple of my ticket writing in Bonneau. I don't know what they would be trying (more)...

Halle Berry‘s home was broken into twice this weekend, as we reported earlier. 911 was called. Cops were radioed. Police cars swarmed. Helicopters hovered. And luckily, all the investigation has proven fruitful. The man who trespassed on her property is named Richard Franco and Halle now has a restraining order against him. He must stay atleast 100 yards away from her and her daughter, Nahla, as ordered by court.
Of the frightening events that occurred on Saturday and Sunday, Halle recalled, “I looked out the glass door leading to my enclosed and gated back yard and was shocked to see a complete stranger, carrying something in his hands and approaching us.” Franco bolted as soon as he was spotted but was back again the following night, as Halle explained, “As I opened my glass kitchen door and closed it behind me, all of a sudden I sensed someone behind me and...

Halle Berry has obtained a temporary restraining order against an intruder who left her "panicking" and "extremely frightened" after a face-to-face confrontation at her Los Angeles home on Monday.
Richard Franco has been told to stay away from the former Bond girl after he showed up at her Hollywood Hills estate three times in as many days.
In a declaration submitted to Los Angeles County Superior Court and obtained by TMZ.com, Berry describes how she feared for her life after finding Franco lurking just inches away from her.
She states, "All of a sudden I sensed someone behind me and turned to see the intruder standing less than a foot behind me, staring through my glass kitchen door.
"Panicking and in fear of my life, I turned my body and quickly hit the deadbolt lock on the glass door. I grabbed my phone and ran as fast as I could upstairs, slamming each door behind me as I ran."
She adds, "He has terrorized me and my family in three consecutive incidents over the last three days. This person has invaded and trampled upon the most fundamental sense of security I have and I am extremely frightened of him and what he might do to me and those I love."
The incidents began on Saturday, when Berry first spotted the intruder in her gated backyard.
Franco was arrested on Monday and remains in custody. A hearing to determine whether the restraining order will be made permanent is set for 1 August.
Police from Los Angeles' threat management team have warned Berry's staff that Franco has a history of "violence, theft and drugs offences," according to the Los Angeles Times.

A man accused of stalking Halle Berry was arrested on Monday night while trying to trespass onto her property. Berry had alerted authorities last weekend after spotting a man "lurking around" her front garden. The man escaped arrest at the time. Police were able to take the alleged stalker into custody late on Monday when Berry's neighbours spotted him in the neighbourhood once again. Authorities transported the suspect to their local precinct, where he was identified as 27-year-old Richard Franco, law enforcement sources told Entertainment Tonight. Franco currently remains in police (more)...

We’ve received all the covers for DC Comics August solicitations, and Flashpoint promises that worlds will live, worlds will die, and the DC Universe will never be the sa– oh, sorry, that was the tagline for Crisis On Infinite Earths, back when I worked at Flashpoint. I’m so confused…
My favorite item for the month is pictured above, the Sergio Aragones version of Batman from Batman: Black & White. But there are some absolute art gems here, including Darwyn Cooke’s Jsa cover, and Frank Quitely’s redoing of Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson’s cover for Green Lantern #52.
As for the rest of the books, take a look… as usual, spoilers ahead:

Fox just dropped off one of our favorite documents of the year – its May Sweeps round-up – and suffice it to say, high drama is in plentiful supply as House, Bones, Glee, Fringe and the rest of the network’s scripted series sew up their seasons. We’ve boiled the 5,000-word press release down for you, show-by-show (in alphabetical order). But be warned: This promises to be a mighty download of scoops, teasers and outright spoilers.

year in review parts 1-7
tear-jerkers, music videos, worst films, gay characters and more...
Four Lions
Michael C. from Serious Film here for a few good laughs.
Any future film historians examining the tail end of 2010 will likely mark this year as dark days for screen comedy. Comedy icons Woody Allen and James L Brooks rolled twin gutter balls, while mainstream audiences lined up around the block to watch the star of Taxi Driver do 98 minutes of boner jokes. As if to rub salt in the wound, the Golden Globes saw fit to nominate an inexplicable slate of comedies that were, with few exceptions, unfunny, unexceptional, or in some cases downright awful.
Still, if you managed to look beyond the large pile of high profile duds there were plenty of laughs to be had in 2010. So here for your consideration is the year in comedy. Not the best movies overall,...

by Jon Zelazny
Director Uli Edel and writer-producer Bernd Eichinger met at the Munich Film School in the late sixties, and went on to collaborate on two gritty cult classics, the German Christiane F. (1981) and Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989).
In 2008, they reunited for The Baader Meinhof Complex, a chronicle of the domestic terrorism that plagued West Germany in the 1970’s. It was nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA Award, and the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. The Constantin/Vitagraph Films release opens this Friday, August 21st, in New York and on August 28th in Los Angeles.
Uli Edel and I met at his home in West Los Angeles.
The terrorist movement in Western Europe essentially began in 1968. What was that year like for you?
Uli Edel: I was just starting my studies in Munich. And when I came there,...
