Sergio Ruffino was born in Palermo, and lives and works in his native
city and Rome. He began to make videos when he was fourteen years old,
after he worked as computer programmer and after his job as drawing in
journal and papers. First movie of Sergio Ruffino's list was whatever a
long format, called "When city sleeps", amatory and the first approach
for the young video maker to the camera. Then, other shorts, and both
"Piazza Ballarò" and "Per una volta ancora" wins both prizes: this
surprise discovered Sergio's talent, and from here a very long
production of videos! The young video maker has turned out more of 70
shorts in a few years, many of which captured of prizes in movie
festivals: genres are various and several: drama (as "Il giorno Dopo",
"May Day", "Blue Ozone") thriller ("Cento Mega Hertz", "L'uomo che
amava i fiori", "Eco", "Trepassing") horror ("Deliverine", "Quando
nasce un assassino", "Gli ultimi momenti di Anna" and "Il perdonatore")
documentary ("Morte Iniqua", "Il re è morto, evviva il re!",
"Bastonaca") video-art ("A chroma tic", "Ritorno nell'Interzona",
"Traviazioni", "Pseudo") comedy ("La storia di Mela", "Non sempre chi
viene ucciso,dovrebbe essere ucciso", "Saremo al Film Festival) and
many others... He has frequented a lot of stages, schools and cinema
labs: graduated in D.A.M.S. section cinema and videos, and after a
special master in "HD and new faces of digital". In 2000 began
production of his first movie "Il Resto Di Me", the first Italian movie
about Giacomo Leopardi poet and his life, with a new reading-key. In
the same year he opened the "Officina Arte-Cinema", one of the most
important base for the video makers in Sicily.Then he worked also as
editor, assistant director in a lot of movies and shorts: in 2003 began
making short movies reviews, and in 2004 he officially opened the
famous "Palermo Film Festival", official festival of movies in Palermo
(Sicily/Italy) with a lot of sections (as Vittorio Albano Prize, Area
51, Dams Prize, BDS Prize, Locked Movies and many others). He's now
working to others shorts and movies, and soon his product will be more
of 100!! Today Ruffino is one of the most important figures of the
young emergent Sicilian cinema.
