Apple TV+ is expanding its kids and family programming slate with the order of the new animated series “Curses!” Variety has learned exclusively.
“Curses!” will premiere on the streaming service on Oct. 27. It hails from DreamWorks Animation with John Krasinski among its executive producers.
The series is described as a spooky adventure comedy. The official description states, “When a generations-long family curse turns Alex Vanderhouven to stone, it’s up to his two kids, Pandora and Russ, and his wife Sky, to return artifacts stolen by their ancestors to their rightful homes to finally lift the curse for good.”
The voice cast includes: Gabrielle Nevaeh as Pandora, Andre Robinson as Russ, Lyric Lewis as Sky, Reid Scott as Alex, Rhys Darby as Stanley, James Marsters as Larry, Rhea Perlman as Margie, Phylicia Rashad as Georgia Snitker, and Robert Englund as Cornelius.
Jim Cooper and Jeff Dixon created “Curses!” and serve as executive producers.

Canadian actor and filmmaker Aaron Poole shared the first details of his arthouse father-daughter road movie “Dada” with Variety this week, shortly after wrapping principal photography of the film on Manitoulin Island, located north of Toronto in Lake Huron.
Working steadily in North American TV (“Most Dangerous Game”) and film since the late 1990s, Poole, a classically trained actor, stepped behind the camera for his Toronto-premiering “Oracle” (2020), which was nominated for best narrative short at Slamdance and won the top prize at Montreal’s Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma.

Julie Pandeya has been tapped as chief financial officer and chief operating officer for animation producer Mercury Films.
Pandeya will oversee Mercury Filmworks’ finance, business and legal, studio operations, talent management and production operations. She takes over the newly-created dual leadership role after serving as both CFO and COO of Shoebox Audiometry, and before that she held executive positions at Ibm, including global Gbs transformation leader.
Pandeya began her career at Ernst & Young in accounting and tax. Her announcement in joining Mercury Filmworks was made by Clint Eland, studio founder and CEO.
As an animation producer, the Ottawa-based studio does fee-based service work Disney, Netflix, Apple, Amazon, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks, 20th Century Studios, Sony, Warner Bros. and Mattel. The Kindness Show. Apple TV+ will also add eight Peanuts specials to its library as part of its partnership with rights holder WildBrain.

Canadian animation studio Mercury Filmworks has appointed Guillaume Dubois as their new vice president of production.
Dubois, who will report to Mercury Filmworks’ founder and CEO Clint Eland, will manage current and future productions including work-for-hire and original IP. Among the projects he will be overseeing are “Octicorn” and “Bad Jelly the Witch.” Dubois will work alongside Heath Kenny, the Ottawa-based company’s chief creative officer, and Chantal Ling, vice president of original series and co-production.
Dubois began his animation career at Mondo TV in France and has spent 16 years in animation and children’s television. He was previously CEO at Caribara Montreal, which he co-founded. An offshoot of Parisian animation studio Caribara, which specialises in 2D animation for projects including “Yellow Yeti” (Zodiak Kids, Gigglebug, Disney Emea), “Princess Dragon” (dir. Lighthouse Studios has named Claire Finn its new managing director. The animation studio is based in Kilkenny, Ireland, and has just finished work on Amazon series “Bug Diaries,” and started on another kids’ project for the streamer, the second season of “Give a Mouse a Cookie.”
