- Paul Kagame is the President of the Republic of Rwanda. He was born in Southern Rwanda and spent much of his early years living in refugee camps. He was one of the founding members of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and was serving as its commander when the RPF retook Rwanda's capital Kigali in 1994, ending the Genocide Against the Tutsi. He was Vice President and Minister of Defence before becoming President of Rwanda. He was President of the African Union in 2018. Sport has played key part of his strategy to rebuild Rwanda and in 2010 he was given an award by the International Olympic Committee for 'Inspiring Young People'.
