"Horror. I think it's like comedy when you write it. You don't try to Be Funny. You try to create tension.

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is looking for his next film project after Hobbs and Shaw and he may have found it with Undying Love.
Undying Love is based on a graphic novel created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, and it involves vampires. Warner Bros. managed to acquire the rights to the comic when it was in a big bidding war years back. Directors Joe Carnahan and Alex Aja have previously been attached to the film, but it looks like Leitch may end up being the one to get it made. Here’s the story summary:
In this horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore set in modern-day Hong Kong, ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: she's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her.

After his failed attempt to adapt "Daredevil," director Joe Carnahan is aiming to get another comic book adaptation under his belt.
"The Grey" helmer is reportedly in talks to direct an adaptation of "Undying Love," Deadline has learned. The graphic novel, which was written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, tells the story of two lovers, an ex-soldier named John Sargent and a Chinese vampire named Mei. Sargent goes on a journey to kill the vampire who made Mei in order to free her from her curse.
This might not be Carnahan's next project, as he's already working on "Nemesis" and a remake of "Death Wish." However, it is exciting to know that Carnahan hasn't given up on the comic book movie genre after missing out on the "Daredevil" remake.
Meanwhile, Carnahan has revealed who his dream actor to play Daredevil in his planned remake would have been.

With the Twilight series finally ‘over and done’, there’s only one thing left – to be patient for a little while, until the last film leaves the theaters.
Albeit a great moment for many people, there are some out there simply can’t make it through a year without knowing they have some sleazy vampiric love stories/triangles to help them along. Luckily for them, Warner Bros. and director Joe Carnahan are setting up to bring an adaptation of Undying Love to the big screen, and hopefully, make it tolerable for the rest of us.
After the talk about Alexandre Aja getting the directing chair from this past March followed by the silent bubble, it is a bit unclear how and when it went to Carnahan but hey, Undying Love is an Image Comics miniseries created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman. What do you do when you’ve made a movie about killing wolves? You follow-it up with one about killing vampires, of course. According to Deadline Hollywood, Joe Carnahan has proven he’s neither on Team Edward nor Team Jacob by negotiating to direct Undying Love over at Warners. Taken from the Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman graphic novel, the story follows a badass who falls in love with a vampire, but has to badass his way to the monstrous heart of Hong Kong to go all badass on her creator – who happens to be protected by a ton of mobsters. Probably badasses. It legitimately sounds like the kind of movie that has everything – romance, action, adventure, danger, thrills, spills, exotic locales, vampire mobsters, interspecies sex, and true love. Usually with news like this, the big question of whether the world needs another vampire story jumps to the forefront, but you know what? It...

A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan is attached to write and direct the big screen adaptation of the vampire comic book Undying Love for Warner Bros. The comic was published in 2011 and created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who also previously wrote a draft of the script when Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja was attached to direct the movie. Obviously he was never able to move it into production. I think Carnahan is a better director anyway, and I think this will be a great project for him to work on. It's definitely different from anything he's worked on before.

Earlier this year, we got word that Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja would be at the helm of Undying Love, a big screen take on the Image Comic of the same name that comic writers Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman have adapted themselves for a feature film. The story follows an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire, but in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld. However, it sounds like Aja is no longer involved on the project, and Deadline's report pegs A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan as the man to take over the job now. Carnahan comments on being drawn to the property, "I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about...

Now that his Daredevil film is off the table, Joe Carnahan is free to look for other projects to keep him occupied. Graphic novel adaptation Undying Love seems to be finding some luck, at least in its early development stages. First picked up by Warner Bros. back in July 2011, it now has The Grey’s Joe Carnahan locking in a deal to re-write and direct the film.Originally created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, Undying Love focuses on a former soldier who falls for a young woman. Now that he’s lost out on directing a reboot of “Daredevil”, Joe Carnahan is setting his sights on the comic book horror title “Undying Love” instead. Well, calling this “horror” is a bit deceptive. Sure, it has vampires, but so do the “Twilight” movies, and they aren’t really horror, are they? Likewise with “Undying Love”, which is more of an action movie that just happens to have vampires, sort of like the “Underworld” films. Carnahan, who last helmed the survival flick “The Grey” with Liam Neeson, has signed on to write and direct a big-screen version of “Undying Love”, to be based on the comic book series by Tomm Coker. The title follows a Special Forces soldier who falls for a pretty female vampire (are there any other kind?), and takes it upon himself to save her. To do that, he’ll have to slay her creator — a...

While Joe Carnahan appears to be working on this action flick "Continue," tweeting over the weekend that he wanted to drop Frank Grillo's screen tests online, it looks like the director is adding another project to his plate. Deadline reports that Carnahan is now attached to direct the vampire action flick "Undying Love," which was previously attached Alexandre Aja earlier this spring. Based on the graphic novel by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who also wrote the first draft of the script, the story centers around an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire, but in order to be with her he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld. Well, we'll certainly say it's a different spin on the genre, and as long as it doesn't involve anyone named Edward or Bella, that can only be a good thing.

Exclusive: Joe Carnahan is making a deal at Warner Bros to direct Undying Love, with Carnahan writing the script. It is based on the graphic novel and revolves around an ex-soldier who falls for a vampire, though in order to be with her, he must take on her creator. And that creator happens to be protected by an army of mobsters in the Hong Kong underworld. Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman created the novel and wrote the first script draft, and Michael De Luca and Stephen L’Heureux and Benderspink are producing. Carnahan, who last helmed The Grey, said he sparked to the concept, even though it was a little outside his usual comfort zone. “I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about a bunch of ideas,” Carnahan said. “It is a little out of my wheelhouse,...

Joe Carnahan is going to be a very busy man indeed. It was recently announced that he had begun work on the Nemesis screenplay with his brother, and he also has several other projects in the pipeline at Fox. Well now he can add Vampire flick Undying Love to his slate. It was previously reported that Piranha director Alexandre Aja would helm an adaptation of the Image comic, but obviously that fell through. Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman created the graphic novel and wrote the first script draft, Michael De Luca and Stephen L’Heureux and Benderspink are producing. “I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about a bunch of ideas,” Said Carnahan to Deadline. “It is a little out of my wheelhouse, taking place in China with mysticism and swordplay, but there...

Joe Carnahan's name has been thrown into a couple of different director shortlists within the past year. I've also seen him as some suggestions in recent "Cast This: Director's Edition" columns. So what job has he landed now? It looks like Carnahan is heading into graphic novel territory. The director will helm as well as script an adaptation of Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman's Undying Love. The two creators actually did the first draft of the screenplay, but now Carnahan is...

I don’t know about you, but we never quite see enough Asian monsters in American films, save Lo Pan of Big Trouble in Little China, but Undying Love brings us just that. Last July, we brought you news about Warner Bros taking on the big screen adaptation of Undying Love, a comic book mini-series by Image Comics created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros is in talks with director Alexandre Aja (Piranha, The Hills Have Eyes) to helm the flick. Michael De Luca, Stephen L’Heureux and BenderSpink are producing the project. So, what do you think? Will Aja bring the right brand of horror to this adaptation?
Synopsis:

"My Bloody Valentine" and "Drive Angry 3D" collaborators Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer wrote the script for "Halloween 3D," which was slated for this fall, except Dimension Films' Michael Myers tale has been killed off for now.
The 3D entry in the popular slasher franchise has been bumped from the box office schedule with no news of a future release date. The story picked up after Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" film and centered on Laurie Strode in a mental hospital. Supposedly there was a lead part for "Creepshow" actor Tom Atkins.
Michael might be stopped for now, but there's more terror waiting for you past the break in this week's Horror Bites.

I know what you're thinking - "Ugh, another vampire movie?!" But hang on to your judgments for a second, because this one actually sounds pretty solid. Deadline reports Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja is in negotiations to direct Undying Love, a Warner Bros. film based on the Image Comic of the same name. Comic writers Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman have adapted their own book, which follows an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire, but in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld. Could this be the next Big Trouble in Little China? To answer my previous question, I don't think Undying Love will have quite the same amount of humor as Big Trouble in Little China. The comic's official website calls it a horror-action tale with equal parts vampire mythology...

I haven't read the comic, but I guess it has the potential of turning out to be good movie regardless of all of the vampire films that will eventually be released.

Last we heard concerning Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman’s “Undying Love” comic book, it had been optioned by Warner Bros. to turn into a movie. The latest news on the comic’s movie adaptation finds the studio in negotiations with “Piranha” director Alexandre Aja to get behind the camera of the vampire story. Written and drawn by Coker and co-written by Freedman, “Undying Love” is the story of Sargent, an American commando who travels to Hong Kong with Mei, a beautiful Chinese vampire who he runs across during one of his missions. Instead of killing her like he should (she is a bloodsucker, after all), Sargent instead falls in love, and sets on a course to Hong Kong where he intends to kill the powerful vampire who sired Mei, thus releasing her of her vampiric curse. This, of course, pits Sargent against a legion of vampires, but our man is up to the task.

Alexandre Aja has yet to make an original American film. Since making his way to the states following the success of 2003's High Tension, Aja has directed The Hills Have Eyes, Mirrors, and Piranha, three films based on projects that have been previously made. Fortunately it looks like that part of his career is over. Going forward it seems to be all about adaptations. It began in December when he signed on to helm a feature version of Joe Hill's Horns, but Deadline says he's not stopping there. The director is currently in talks to direct Undying Love, a new film based on the Image Comics graphic novel. The project first came about last summer when Warner Bros. grabbed the rights to the title, which is an eight-part mini-series written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman. The story follows a former soldier named John Sargent living in Hong...

Singing to two non-remakes in a row, it’s almost as though Alexandre Aja is stretching himself a bit. This, granted, in lieu of adapting pre-existing works, but you know what they say: you’ve got to start somewhere. (Even if he shouldn’t be “starting” at this point in his career, but let’s just take what we’ve got.)
Anyway, Deadline reports that Aja is negotiating with Benderspink on Undying Love, the big screen take on a graphic novel from Image Comics. Written by Tomm Coker and illustrated by Daniel Freedman, the original text — and, most likely, its adaptation — centers on “an ex-solider who falls for a vampire, though in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld.”
