Chris Rock’s upcoming remake of the British comedy Death at a Funeral now has a director. Neil Labute, who last helmed the Samuel L. Jackson thriller Lakeview Terrace, will be the man behind the camera. The ensemble comedy will take place in an urban-American setting and centers on a funeral ceremony that devolves into a debacle of misplaced cadavers, indecent exposure and family secrets. Rock and Aeysha Carr (Everybody Hates Chris) penned the screenplay. Returning to produce the new version are Sidney Kimmel, Share Stallings and Laurence Malkin. William Horberg, who served as executive producer for the 2007 version, is also on board to produce. Labute’s involvement with Funeral is part of a two picture deal the filmmaker just signed with Screen Gems. The other project is Here Comes the Sun, a romantic comedy written by Nina Coleman. Plot details are still being kept under wraps. Labute and Rock »
