Creative Portfolio (Director, Director of Photography, Editor, Creative Director, GFX, & VFX.
Donald Andrews has more than 16 years of production and post experience working in the Michigan and Los Angeles markets as a broadcast news director/technical director, creative director, director, director of photography, assistant editor, editor, graphic designer (motion and still), and VFX artist. He is currently on staff at Venice Beach Editorial (TBWA / CHIAT / DAY), where over the past four years he has edited spots for Infiniti, Southwest Airlines, Best Friends Animal Society, Visa Olympics, the Grammy Awards, and online content for Nissan & Pepsi. He also directed and shot the 2014 Best Friends Animal Society "One Small Donation: A Little Goes Along Way" Broadcast TV spot & the NKLA "Anthem" Broadcast TV & Cinema commercial.
After graduating from Michigan State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts: Media Arts/Telecommunication, Donald took on a full-time position directing broadcast news at WSYM FOX 47 in Lansing, Michigan. After moving to Los Angeles, he worked as the creative director at the innovative music discovery startup company LP33 (founded by MTV's Vlad Lodzinski), where he worked with ChannelPort Communications to create bimonthly shows for the McDonald's in-store channel "Lovin' It TV." Together with the Chief Creative Officer (Vlad Lodzinski) and Head Of Production (Chachi Ramirez), Donald developed, executed, and delivered shows for more than a year as the station was implemented across the country as part of the McCafé Rollout.
While at LP33, Donald also shot and directed content with such esteemed recording artists as Ringo Starr, Ke$ha, Perry Farrell, Neon Trees, Tori Amos, OK Go, Florence & the Machine, Devo, the XX, Ben Folds, Moby, Sean Kingston, Santigold, Cage the Elephant, Natasha Bedingfield, and David Gray to name a few. Donald also piloted, developed, and supervised the delivery of "The Now," a music magazine show syndicated on Canada's Movieola Network.
Donald has also freelanced at Spinach Editorial (David & Goliath), where he cut a spot for Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights, and has directed shot and/or edited epks, music videos and live performances for Anvil, Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, Klaxons, Von Haze, and others. He is an avid fan of music and pop culture and has hosted "55 Shades of Blue", formerly called "Hippos In Tanks", a weekly specialty show on tastemaker L.A. radio station KXLU 88.9 FM, for the past five years.
Donald is equally left- and right-brained. He sees the overall bigger picture, is focused, and pays attention to detail, but is also creative and conceptual, with an eye for design and composition. He understands the beauty of simplifying and the power of the word and image, and how to manipulate both.
