Although his work extends much further than erotic films nowadays, Shinji Imaoka’s filmography mostly consists of pinku movies, as part of the latest (and probably the last) group of directors dealing with the category, the Seven Lucky Gods. His productions, however, differ significantly from the rest in the category, particularly due to their absurdly comedic sense and the elements of fantasy/horror, both of which are exemplified in “Uncle’s Paradise”

This marks the fourth year that the entire membership of the academy can take part in the nomination stage of the Animated Feature Oscar race. Previously, only select members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch and invited members from the other branches could serve on the committee that decided the nominees. Collectively, the committee tended to favor traditional and stop-motion films over CG fare. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2021 Oscars predictions for Best Animated Feature.)
Mandatory attendance at screenings has been dropped and voters who want to be on the nominations committee need only attest to having seen all the contenders at theaters or screenings or by way of the the academy’s streaming site.
And the method of determining the nominees has been changed. Gone is the system where voters scored a film from 6 (poor) to 10 (excellent) with only those movies meriting an average mark of...

Known as one of the “Four Heavenly Kings of Pink” director Hisayasu Sato has adapted an exploitation-like style to his work while tackling subjects such as alienation, urbanization and the human condition within a modern, highly technologized world. Ten years before Shinya Tsukamoto’s “A Snake of June” would deal with similar themes, Sato’s 1992 effort “An Aria on Gazes”, also known as “The Bedroom”, explored the connection between modernity, technology and (sexual) obsession. Thus, the films, while still maintaining an exploitation scaffolding, so to speak, is more like a study on the concept of fetish, how observation through technology has affected our lives.

The story revolves around Kyoko (Kiyomi Ito) who is married to Akihito (Mineo Sugiura), a salaryman that has been rejecting her and her idea of leading a normal family life. Saddened by his behavior, Kyoko becomes...

Sonic the Hedgehog gets a digital makeover in the new trailer for the film based on the hit Sega videogame series.
The live-action film, originally set for release on Nov. 8, was pushed back three months to Feb. 14, 2020, after online outcry over the look of the title character in the first trailer for the film that dropped last spring. Fans of the video game were highly critical of the speedy blue hedgehog’s fur, his eyes and most notably his human-looking teeth — which seem much less distracting in the new footage.
The new trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog” offers more details about the plot, in which Sonic, the world’s speediest hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), and his new best human friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the mustachioed, latte-loving evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination.

There's an animation/live-action hybrid Sonic The Hedgehog movie in the works, and Deadpool's Tim Miller is now an executive producer.
Sonic the Hedgehog, veteran of countless video games, an animated series (with another on the way), and a long-running comic book series from Archie Comics, is coming to the big screen, with a familiar name helping to make it happen for Sony Pictures.

Hot on the heels of their Flash scoop, The Hollywood Reporter is back with another big get as they've learned that Deadpool director Tim Miller has signed on to develop a film adaptation of the immensely popular video game series Sonic the Hedgehog for Sony Pictures. He'll be joined by his longtime Blur Studios collaborator & fellow Academy Award-nominee Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke), who is expected to helm the project while Miller serves as executive producer. Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise), Takeshi Ito, & Mie Onishi will be on-board as producers and the Golan the Insatiable writing duo of Patrick Casey & Josh Miller are currently penning the script. The film, which will follow the titular Sonic and his friends Tails & Knuckles on an all-new adventure, is being described as a hybrid CG-animated/live-action family film, which sounds like something right in Miller's wheelhouse. So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Back in 2014 came word that Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sega Sammy Group's Marza Animation Planet were teaming up to develop "Sonic the Hedgehog," a live-action and animation hybrid cinematic feature based on the iconic video game franchise.
Nothing much has been heard since, but Sega CEO Hajime Satomi revealed to Worldfolio (via io9) this week that the project is still on the way and is being fast-tracked for a 2018 release.
The film aims to capture Sonic's irreverent tone and will incorporate iconic characters from the franchise including the evil Dr. Eggman. Evan Susser and Van Robichaux are penning this feature which is being produced by Neal H. Moritz, Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi.
The "Sonic" franchise has sold over 140 million games and the character previously headlined several animated series.
