Fear not, Richard Simmons fans. The eccentric fitness personality is not dying, despite his string of rather unsettling tweets Monday.
“I have some news to tell you,” Simmons began in a thread on X. “Please don’t be sad. I am… dying. Oh, I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death. Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to enjoy your life to the fullest every single day. Get up in the morning and look at the sky… count your blessings and enjoy.

On September 9th and 10th, 2001, George Carlin was performing a standup set about enjoying mass tragedies. It wouldn’t be released until 2016 as his final, posthumous, comedy album, but it had a prescient title he’d come up with before the show: I Kinda Like It When a Lotta People Die.
This is just one eerie anecdote that host Dan Taberski (Missing Richard Simmons, Surviving Y2K, Running From ‘Cops’) explores on his new podcast, 9/12, from Pineapple Street Studios, Amazon Music and Wondery. Carlin’s daughter, Kelly Carlin, described finding...

Following two successful season-long deep dives into the story of a fitness icon and what happened when the world didn’t end on January 1, 2000, Dan Taberski and “Headlong” are taking a lengthy look at “Cops.” Over six episodes, “Headlong: Running from Cops” will look at the behind-the-scenes process of bringing episodes to audiences, how local communities in cities where the show is filmed have responded, and the lasting impact on the public perception of police officers in neighborhoods of all kinds.
It’s been three decades since the reality TV series first aired, and in that time, Taberski told IndieWire that the show has fundamentally changed the way America sees police officers.
“Before ‘Cops’ came around in 1989, every cultural depiction of police was fiction,” Taberski said. “It was the first time that cameras in a real consistent way were following real people and real suspects and recording those interactions between police and citizens.

Image Source: Getty / Michael Buckner After an '80s heyday of toning tushes on tapes, Richard Simmons continued to be in the pop culture stratosphere for decades, until recently. The lively fitness guru would appear on late-night segments, would teach classes at his Beverly Hills studio, and was always ready to pose with fans for a picture. Then, in 2014, he stopped showing up for classes. He stopped talking to his friends. He no longer bounded out of his home to meet buses full of tourists - he didn't leave his home at all. The disappearing act has become the subject of a hit podcast, Missing Richard Simmons. It's hosted by Dan Taberski, who, above all, seems genuinely concerned about a generous and caring man who he had come to think of as a friend. Richard Simmons' older sibling, Lenny, tells Et that his brother's fans have nothing to worry about when it comes to the fitness mogul's well-being.
After Dan Taberski aired his interview with Lenny on this week's episode of the podcast, Missing Richard Simmons, Lenny spoke exclusively with Et over the phone about what his brother has been up to since completely retreating from the public eye.
While Lenny doesn't see his brother that often, since he lives in New Orleans -- where they grew up -- and Richard lives in Los Angeles, he does say that the two speak on a weekly basis. "I talked to him on Sunday, he was doing great. He was asking about our renovations to our home. And we had just gone to see the Broadway musical, Beautiful," Lenny recalls. "We talk every Sunday. Dan Taberski, the host of the wildly popular podcast Missing Richard Simmons, has his own theories as to why the fitness guru has not been seen in over three years.
Each week on the podcast, Taberski -- who says he was Simmons' friend -- interviews an array of people who knew the Sweatin' to the Oldies star in hopes of speaking with the once-outgoing celebrity and thus getting a better understanding as to why he stepped out of the spotlight in the first place.
"The podcast explores all the possible reasons Richard Simmons would stop being Richard Simmons. And some of them are outlandish. Some of them make total sense. And some of them are a little sad," he explains during a phone interview with The New York Times. "I have my own theory, but we get to that toward the end. On February 15, 2014, Richard Simmons was scheduled to teach an aerobics class at his gym, Slimmons, in Beverly Hills, California, but he never showed up.
It's now been over three years since the 68-year-old fitness guru has been seen, and while Et spoke to him last March over the phone, he's rarely been heard from since retreating from the public eye.
Earlier this year, former Daily Show producer Dan Taberski, who considers himself a friend of Simmons, started the weekly podcast Missing Richard Simmons to investigate the whereabouts of the Sweatin' to the Oldies star. Each week, Taberski interviews an array of people who knew Simmons -- from a Hollywood homes tour guide to Simmons' purported "second mother" to his own brother -- in hopes of speaking with the once-outgoing celebrity and thus getting a better understanding as to why he stepped out of the spotlight in the first place.

Modern music has numerous out-and-proud Lgbt icons, but the farther back we travel the harder the gay heroes become to find — as most in the category are lost in underground scenes and subliminal messages. Sold for $3 apiece and distributed quietly via mail, “Lavender Country” was a musical push against sexual repression,...

It might be missing the industry saturated Park City fervor, but the smaller, shorter, and more intimate Columbia, Missouri based True/False Film Festival is the Rolls-Royce (by way of John Deere) of doc focused cinema. Filmmaker Laura Poitras is not alone in stating that her “love for True/False runs deep – from the smart programming, passionate audiences, inspired buskers, and fabulous venues.” Time and time again, selected filmmakers throughout this year’s edition expressed their love of the fest, while plenty of filmmaker personalities from prior editions could be spotted milling around town as casual filmgoers happy to pay to relive the experience.
With a highly curated program just shy of 50 films shown on 9 different screens (each of which are walkable in just 5-10 minutes of one another) over just 4 days, True/False centers its attention on quality and community, both locally and cinematically. For a city with a...

SyFy apparently has been stashing all the money it makes from professional wrastling since the network announced (I refuse to use the word "unveil," it sounds ritualistic, creepy, and moist) its new lineup, consisting of more original content than they've ever hosted before. Well, they use the hyperbolic "in history" which I just don't think should be used for a network that wouldn't even be able to drink for another three years if it was a person. Let's take a few choice bits from the press release and then flip through the new shows.
The press release starts with: "Continuing the sizzling momentum of the Syfy global brand evolution, which has sparked imagination-driven hit series and double-digit growth in younger, upscale audiences as well as diverse new business ventures..."
