Say what you will about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but the director’s streaming superhero redux managed to branch the DC Extended Universe movies off into its own tangential timeline, which has since been dubbed the “SnyderVerse” by the fandom that now passionately hashtags for its restoration in the studio’s main continuity. While recent revelations about Snyder’s rough relationship with Warner make this restoration unlikely, the director isn’t entirely shutting the door on such a notion.
We know that Snyder, once the driving creative force behind Warner’s Dceu, was already the odd man out with the studio by the time a personal tragedy incited him to relinquish the director’s chair of 2017’s Justice League to Joss Whedon, but a recent comment from the director has stamped the idea with a powerful punctuation. While Snyder’s focus right now may be this month’s release of his new feature,...

There are many memorable lines in the Star Wars movies, but perhaps one of the most iconic exchanges in the entire saga took place in The Empire Strikes Back moments before Han Solo got frozen in carbonite.
Harrison Ford came back a couple of years ago to portray Han in The Force Awakens one last time, but the scruffy-looking nerf herder’s last appearance in Star Wars was actually in The Rise of Skywalker, where he encouraged his son to let go of his Kylo Ren persona and embrace the light again. But even before appearing in Disney’s Sequel Trilogy, Harrison Ford was already a pop culture icon by bringing the character of Han to life in the Original Trilogy.
In fact, there are a lot of scenes in those movies that stood the test of time and managed to become everlastingly embedded into people’s memories, such as...

Disney and Lucasfilm would like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to be a victory lap. And on one level it certainly will: no matter what it’ll make money and will probably be the biggest film of the holiday period, too. But as the finale to their Sequel Trilogy, it needs to go above and beyond merely being just a hit.
After all, Disney’s stewarding of the franchise has taken several knocks over the last two years, including continued problems with directors, a fractious relationship with the fan community post-The Last Jedi and the critical and financial failure of Solo. If The Rise of Skywalker is considered a disappointing finale, then the whole Sequel Trilogy will be tainted.
With the world premiere now behind us though and press screenings taking place across the world, the embargo has finally lifted on social media reactions and thankfully, it looks like J.J. Abrams has nailed it,...

Right now, we’re just over eight months away from the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and in all that time, the film’s cast and crew will have to stay tight-lipped on the long-awaited conclusion to the Skywalker Saga.
Daisy Ridley, for instance, first heard about the ending from director J.J. Abrams. And in a recent interview with Fox 32 reporter Jake Hamilton, the actress recalled how the finale underwent some changes as new ideas emerged:
“J.J. had told me and then I’d read the script, and then it was sort of shifting. The ending was always pretty similar, and then I was told there was a new, I guess, a slightly different beat added that I was told, which was awesome, because it’s nice to be told a thing, and then you can experience it with the filmmaker. But also, we don’t...

In 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jason Momoa had the honor of being the first big screen Arthur Curry, and with the new Aquaman movie heading our way on a wave of positive buzz, it seems that fans are pretty satisfied so far with the former Game of Thrones star’s take on the famed DC figure.
But while Momoa might have the right kind of presence and charisma to play the half-Atlantean hero, even he seems to realize that he probably wouldn’t do so well in the role of fellow Justice League member Bruce Wayne. So when the actor was asked to audition for Batman, Momoa quickly became skeptical, recalling in an interview with Jake Hamilton how he almost turned down the opportunity.
“Yeah I kind of visualized, because it was a generic kind of just general scene from the Christian Bale movie The Dark Knight and I just,...

[1] Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon premiered this week at the Moscow Film Festival, and the first reviews have begun to appear online. What did people think of the film? Was it better than Revenge of the Fallen? Does it surpass the first film? Is this the first live-action film worth seeing in 3D since Avatar? I've compiled links to the first wave of reviews, and printed excerpts after the jump. Harry Knowles on AICN [2]: "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon is simply the best film of the franchise – by a great deal." .... "this film is astonishing to watch in 3D. Easily the best 3D since Avatar - and in many respects I think it is superior." ... "Personally, I'm looking forward to checking out the 3D again - that last hour is just jaw-dropping." ... "After I saw the film, my brain felt tired. Not from great thoughts, but...

The internet was abuzz last week when Michael Bay took it upon himself to coerce and instruct projectionists to present his blockbuster baby Transformers: Dark of the Moon in the highest brightness possible. The director and his crew seem to be spewing every chance about its technical merits. Its star Shia Labeouf (who is known for saying whatever audiences want to hear) told the La Times that “it’s the greatest 3-D film ever made.” Is he lying or could this be true after the abysmal Revenge of the Fallen?
The review embargo lifts tomorrow (when I’ll be seeing it), but I’ve rounded up any impressions I could get my hands on below. Deadline also has the actual letter Bay sent to projectionists. Check it out below, followed by impressions of the film.
Before we get to those reviews and impressions, Michael Bay has also posted a letter...

I was first introduced to writer/director Paul Solet through another indie genre director, Adam Green, who was serving as producer on Solet’s feature film debut, Grace, which premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2009. However, my first introduction to Solet’s horror sensibilities was through the disturbing (and sometimes hilarious) short film Means to an End he collaborated on with Jake Hamilton.
So when I had the idea of reaching out to independent genre filmmakers for this week’s Indie Horror Month coverage, Solet was a shoo-in. I knew his unique filmmaking vision would spill over into his list of his five favorite independent horror films, and I was right on the money. Check out Solet’s list below, and make sure to check in tomorrow for our final two lists!

Hollywood-Elsewhere: Jeff Wells notes that, in the wake of the coalescence of virtually all of the major critics groups behind “The Social Network” over the last few weeks, a number of people who have long argued that “The King’s Speech” is the frontrunner for the best picture Oscar are now jumping ship. The most noteworthy example of this is Pete Hammond, who for weeks had “The King’s Speech” at #1 but has now dropped it all the way down to #3 on his projections, behind both “The Social Network” and “The Fighter.” Steve Pond and Kris Tapley have also dropped “The King’s Speech” behind “The Social Network” on their respective charts. Both major polls of awards pundits — GoldDerby’s “Inside Track” and MovieCityNews’s “Gurus ‘o Gold” — now show that “The Social Network” is firmly in the lead.
