On Wednesday, an Arizona grand jury indicted 18 of Donald Trump’s allies for trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state.
Boris Epshteyn, a former White House aide who has remained one of Trump’s closest advisers, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows are three of 18 indicted allies. Their names were redacted in documents released, but court officials confirmed that they were included in the group charged.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) announced the indictment Wednesday night. She focused on the 11 people who acted as pro-Trump electors in Arizona.
“A state grand jury made up of everyday regular Arizonans has now handed down felony indictments for all 11 Republican electors as well as several others connected to this scheme,” Mayes stated.
“These are serious indictments, but this is the first hurdle the state must pass in our constitutional criminal justice system,...

A California Bar Court Judge Yvette Roland ruled that conservative attorney John Eastman, one of the co-conspirators in former President Donald Trump‘s plan to overturn the 2020 election, should be disbarred.
Eastman testified before the State Bar of California in June 2023 in a proceeding aimed to strip him of his license to practice law in the state.
He was one of Trump’s lawyers in 2020 and played a large role in helping him try to overturn the results of that year’s election, which the former president falsely claims was “stolen” by Joe Biden and Democratic officials.
He also devised a plan involving former Vice President Mike Pence invalidating the 2020 results during a joint session of Congress which had convened to count the electoral votes.
For months, a federal grand jury in Washington met in secret and heard testimony from witnesses, including Pence. He allegedly told the jury that he...

Three lawyers who assisted Trump lawyer Sidney Powell‘s campaign in mounting legal challenges to the 2020 election results have been charged by bar investigators in Washington, D.C. They have been accused of violating disciplinary policies and are facing disciplinary charges.
The attorneys, Juli Haller, Lawrence Joseph and Brandon Johnson, are accused of knowingly making false representations to courts about a series of lawsuits filed in the weeks following the 2020 election. These filings became public in January.
Joseph was involved in a lawsuit filed by former Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) against former Vice President Mike Pence. The lawsuit aimed to pressure Pence to use his power to alter the election outcome according to Donald Trump‘s wishes.
Lower courts rejected the lawsuit, and the Supreme Court ended the case in January 2021.

It’s just past 11 a.m. on Christmas Eve, and Angimar leans forward in a blue, perforated metal chair to examine her toddler’s diaper. The boy has been tugging at his legging pants, and his walk is now more of a waddle. Along with most personal-hygiene products, diapers are in short supply. Within a few seconds, 28-year-old Angimar, who goes by Angi, makes a quick calculation, the kind that mothers of young children make hundreds of times each day. It’s time, she decides, for a new one.

Orkin, a nationwide pest control company, has named Chicago number one in its annual list of Top 50 Rattiest Cities.
Los Angeles “earned” the number two spot while New York has been labeled the third-most rat-infested city.
The cities on this list are measured by the amount of new rodent services requested by customers.
This list also discloses how far the citizens and businesses of the major cities have gone in order to deal with these issues.
Metropolitan areas were ranked by the company based on how many rodent treatments were conducted from September 21, 2022, to August 31, 2023. The ranking consists of residential and commercial pest control treatments.
Orkin has chosen to celebrate Chicago’s number one status by releasing a free t-shirt available only for a limited time.

Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

“Morning time, I get on my knees, I pray to Allah/Forgive me for the shit that I did,” harmonizes Lil Durk on “Pelle Coat,” a track from his new album, Almost Healed. The 30-year-old Chicago rapper has steadily gathered momentum ever since he signed with Def Jam in 2013. He’s arguably the most commercially viable proponent of drill music, and that success allows him to float above the noise that roils heated discussions about the homegrown subgenre, even as he navigates the kind of industry bullshit — a long-running beef...

“Rick and Morty” truly hit its stride in Season 4 for showrunners Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, which is ironic since Season 3’s ingeniously character-driven and hilarious “Pickle Rick” earned them their first Emmy. But this was the year the duo signed a 70-episode renewal deal with Adult Swim — and became much more efficient and collaborative. It all came together in their favorite episode of the season, “The Vat of Acid,” about a crucial confrontation between the eccentric scientist and his frustrated grandson, who finally achieves scientific satisfaction but with a sadistic twist.
“The thing that I find really interesting about this episode,” said Roiland, “is that it’s a character-driven, [with] Rick teaching Morty a lesson with his vast superiority and brilliance, and Morty not seeing where things are going, I love this abuse dynamic between Rick and Morty that’s just so fun to write.”

This story about Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland first appeared in the “Race Begins” issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine. It is one in a series of conversations about the effects of the coronavirus on the TV industry.

County D.A.'s Office tells us a judge issued a bench warrant for Brandon Johnson -- but not for Demi ... it's for his June arrest for cocaine possession and DUI. The court clerk says Johnson was a no-show for his arraignment Monday, so the judge wants him hauled in to face the music.

We still can't believe this ever happened. Demi Lovato terrified her family, friends, and fans when she suffered a near-fatal overdose in July. But the "Sober" singer is determined to show her loved ones that she isn't taking this second chance at life for granted. "Demi knows she's lucky to be alive," a source assured Life & Style. "She isn't taking rehab lightly at all." Besides checking into an undisclosed rehab facility, the pop star sought additional treatment in Chicago, where she reportedly met with a psychiatrist who specializes in mental health and sobriety several times this summer. "Demi's cutting out all the negativity from her life," added the source. "She's even put the Hollywood Hills home where she overdosed up for sale because the thought of going back there sends shivers down her spine." Brandon Johnson spoke with our camera last week -- detailing the 4 Am text message he says he got from Demi asking him to come to her Hollywood Hills home -- and telling us she was well aware the pills she was taking were the risky "aftermarket" variety.

Trailblazing “Master of None” Emmy winner Lena Waithe created the Showtime ensemble drama “The Chi,” which examines life on the South Side of Chicago — like “The Wire” for the Midwest. Gold Derby recently spoke with the show’s stars Jason Mitchell, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, and Yolonda Ross about their work in the freshman series. Scroll down and click on their names below to be taken to their full interviews.
“We really wanted to put faces to some of these tragedies,” reveals Mitchell. As more and more TV shows from both sides of the aisle find a home in the ever-broadening definition of “dramedy,” viewers are treated to actors giving some of the most raw and emotional performances we have seen in the medium, and often in shows labelled comedies.
This Emmy season alone, we have watched stand-out performances from such past nominees as William H. Macy as the softie shyster Frank Gallagher on Showtime’s “Shameless” and Anthony Anderson as Dre Johnson, a father realizing that his own marriage is fragile in ABC’s “Black-ish.” There are also newcomers, including Freddie Highmore as Shaun Murphy, the titular autistic savant in ABC’s “The Good Doctor” (a performance that won praise from the Autism Society in Los Angeles), and Jason Mitchell as Brandon Johnson, a promising chef from the streets of Chicago who is navigating old and new worlds in Showtime’s “The Chi.

Tortured or charming, romantic or angry, Jason Mitchell is convincing in every one of his scenes in “The Chi,” but there’s one challenge he tackles effortlessly: cooking.
“I know my way around a kitchen, man,” Mitchell told IndieWire. “While being a starving actor, I was a cook — for six years.”
As Brandon Johnson, a chef and family man in the Showtime drama, Mitchell has a number of moments when he’s chopping a fine slice of meat or tossing ingredients together in his character’s restaurant.
“I’m originally from New Orleans, so we take our food very seriously,” he said. “Brandon has so much of me in him. It was really cool to be able to take that skill, something that I love so much, and be able to put it on the screen. It was dope.”

Showtime kicked off Emmy season with an event celebrating the cast and crew of their new series “The Chi” on Friday night. Gold Derby was on the red carpet at the Directors Guild of America Theater in Hollywood, CA, and snagged interviews with star Jason Mitchell, creator Lena Waithe, director Rick Famuyiwa, and Lil Rel Howery, who moderated a Q&A that also featured executive producer Common.
The ensemble drama examines life on the Southside of Chicago – like “The Wire” for the midwest. Mitchell plays Brandon Johnson, an aspiring chef whose younger brother (Jahking Guillory) is killed by a man (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) avenging the death of his surrogate son. Famuyiwa helmed the pilot episode and served as an executive producer throughout the first season.

The biggest news to come out of Thursday night’s “Rick and Morty Live” event at Starburns Industries in Burbank was the final confirmation that Season 3 will be here in a month.
But for fans hoping for a window into the creative chaos that helps give birth to the polished final product, the two-hour event, hosted by cast member Brandon Johnson, gave them just what they were looking for. With co-creator (and Rick/Morty voice) Justin Roiland giving some background on Season 3, storyboard artist Erica Hayes providing some live sketches and with writer Dan Harmon manning FinalDraft, the evening followed wherever the riffing led them.
At various points in the night, the three would work together to come up with some improvised sequences. It’s the only way something as pure as Star Rick and Star Morty makes it into this world. (Look at those angry Rick eyebrows!)

"I can do something no one else can..." Blumhouse Tilt has released a brand new, full-length official trailer for an indie film titled Sleight, which premiered in the ultra-low budget Nexst section of the Sundance Film Festival last year. Sleight is about a street magician in Los Angeles who gives himself superpowers and takes on a local drug dealer to save his sister. Jacob Latimore plays Bo, with a full cast featuring Seychelle Gabriel, Dulé Hill, Storm Reid, Sasheer Zamata, Michael Villar, Brandon Johnson & Cameron Esposito. I wrote in my review "it's a fairly simple story, but the film is still awesome." I highly recommend seeing this film, mostly to support talented young directors and shoestring budget filmmaking. Check it out. Here's the new full-length trailer (+ new poster) for J.D. Yes, yes, Dan Harmon is back running the show at "Community." But while he was exiled last season, he wasn't just ranting on Twitter and on his Harmontown podcasts -- he was also creating another show with partner Justin Roiland.
"Rick and Morty" is a new animated comedy premiering on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim this fall, all about the adventures of a genius inventor and his less-than-genius grandson.
Answering questions from critics at the annual Television Critics Association press tour, Harmon talked about the benefits of doing animation versus live-action: "You can make a banana purple. You can put three hats on a cowboy." Then when talking about influences, Harmon cited the "British sci-fi stuff" that he grew up reading, as well as "a heavy dose of 'Doctor Who.'"
