Harare, March 17 (Ians) Zimbabwe on Friday named a full-strength squad which features their premier players including Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl for the Odi series against Netherlands, set to be played from March 21.
While Raza and Burl are back from franchise cricket commitments abroad, the Chevrons have also been boosted by the return of Sean Williams, Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani, who all are coming off injuries.
Williams fractured his finger in January, while Chatara had suffered a thigh muscle injury in the same month. Muzarabani had been sidelined since last November when his quadriceps injury flared up during the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Though both teams are out of contention for a direct qualification to the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the matches scheduled for March 21, 23 and 25 in the series can serve as a preparing point for the upcoming Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier...

Melbourne, Nov 5 (Ians) Exactly two weeks after India opened their Men’s T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan in a thrilling four-wicket victory at a sold-out Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be back at the iconic venue to seal their semifinal berth in the final Group 2 match of Super 12s against a lively Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Though India have a 5-2 edge over Zimbabwe in T20Is with their last face-off happening in 2016, it will be the first time that these two teams will be meeting in a T20 World Cup game.
While India have survived scares against Pakistan and Bangladesh, they will be fully aware that Zimbabwe can’t be taken lightly. After all, the Chevrons, as Zimbabwe are called back home, did inflict an upset one-run win over Pakistan at Perth.
Known for going hard at power-play due to embracing ultra-attacking batting approach, India...

Townsville, Sep 3 (Ians) Zimbabwe scored a historic three-wicket victory against the Aaron Finch-led Australia, with leg-spinner Ryan Burl grabbing five wickets for just 10 runs as he brought the hosts to their knees in the third and final One-day International here on Saturday.
Though Australia clinched the series 2-1, it was the manner in which the hosts capitulated which stood out, with nine of their batters scoring in single digit. Opener David Warner, with his patient 96-ball 94, helped the hosts to 141 before they were bundled out in 31 overs.
In reply, Zimbabwe notched up the required runs for the loss of seven wickets in 39 overs to record a memorable win.
Australia had a forgettable start with the bat, as they were reduced to 72/5 after only 18 overs. Put in to bat first, Zimbabwe made full use of the conditions on offer here.
Richard Ngarava and Victor Nyauchi sent Finch and Steve Smith packing for 5 and 1 respectively.

Townsville (Queensland), Aug 27 (Ians) Australia’s white-ball skipper Aaron Finch has hinted at a major shake-up in the Odi batting line-up when the hosts take on Zimbabwe in the first of the three-match series to be played here on Sunday, with charismatic batter Marnus Labuschagne omitted as the Kangaroos go into the game packed with all-rounders.
A report in cricket.com.au said on Saturday that the playing XI for the first Odi will have wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey elevated to No.4, while Steve Smith will fill the No.3 position and Mitchell Marsh will move from No.3 to No. 6 spot.
Finch added that Labuschagne’s omission is “down to a new structure they want to test out”.
“The reasoning behind Marnus (Labuschagne) is we’re just going with an allrounder-heavy side,” Finch said on Saturday.
“Two quicks plus (leg-spinner Adam) Zampa, and Cameron Green as the fourth genuine bowler. And then using (Mitchell) Marsh,...

Harare, Aug 23 (Ians) Zimbabwe on Tuesday named a 15-member squad for the Odi series against Australia with fit-again fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani returning after recovering from a thigh muscle tear that kept him out of action for a while.
The three-match Odi series, which begins on Sunday, is Zimbabwe’s first tour Down Under since 2003-04.
Muzarabani was the only new member in the team that faced India recently at home in the ODIs. Regis Chakabva will continue to lead the side in the absence of regular skipper Craig Ervine, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
Tendai Chatara, who has a collarbone fracture, Wellington Masakadza, who injured his shoulder tendon and Milton Shumba, who has a quadricep injury, remain absent.
The Odi series is part of the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League which will serve as a means to qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2023 to be staged in India.

Harare, Aug 20 (Ians) A disciplined bowling show, led by Shardul Thakur’s three wickets, and an unbeaten 43 by wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson helped India beat Zimbabwe by five wickets in the second Odi at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
With this win, India also take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, with Monday’s match becoming a dead rubber. The five-wicket victory also means that this was India’s 14th win on the trot over Zimbabwe in Odi cricket.
After Thakur’s 3-38 in seven overs and the rest of the bowlers took a wicket each to bowl Zimbabwe out for just 161 in 38.1 overs, the visitors were in some discomfort at 97-4 in their chase of 167. But Samson, who hit three fours and four sixes in his unbeaten 43 off 39 balls and Deepak Hooda shared a 56-run stand to get the match in India’s favour with 146 balls remaining.

Harare, Aug 18 (Ians) Deepak Chahar’s opening burst of 3-27, followed by three-wicket hauls from Axar Patel and Prasidh Krishna, as well as unbeaten fifties by vice-captain Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill helped India to a resounding ten-wicket victory against Zimbabwe in their Odi series opener at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
After Chahar, Patel and Krishna’s efforts led to Zimbabwe being bowled out for 189 all out in 40.3 overs, Gill and Dhawan were unbroken in their opening partnership to chase down the total and help India take 1-0 lead in three-match series.
The win is also India’s third 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in ODIs and also their 13th consecutive triumph over the hosts’ in 50-over cricket. A major part of the Dhawan-Gill stand was how Dhawan, the early aggressor, took a backseat for some time when Gill found his groove after a watchful beginning in the innings.

Ind v Zim, 1st Odi: Axar, Deepak, Prasidh pick three wickets each as India bowl out Zimbabwe for 189
Harare, Aug 18 (Ians) Axar Patel, Deepak Chahar and Prasidh Krishna picked three wickets each as India bowled out Zimbabwe for 189 all out in 40.3 overs in the first Odi at Harare Sports Club on Thursday. Apart from Chahar’s 3-27, Patel picked 3-24 while Prasidh had 3-50 and Mohammed Siraj scalped one wicket too.
At 110-8, Zimbabwe were in danger of being bowled out for a low total as Chahar, in his first international match since February this year, bowled a superb spell of 3-27. But fantastic counter-attacking knocks from Brad Evans (33) and Richard Ngarava (34 not out) and their record 70-run stand for the ninth wicket, their highest-ever against India, helped Zimbabwe get close to 200.

Harare, Aug 18 (Ians) Stand-in captain Kl Rahul has won the toss and elected to bowl first against Zimbabwe in the opening match of the Odi series at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
Rahul will be playing his first competitive match since featuring in Ipl 2022 in May this year. A groin injury subsequently led to sports hernia surgery and testing positive for Covid-19 meant the right-handed batter had to spend lengthy time on the sidelines.
Alongside Rahul, pace all-rounder Deepak Chahar is coming back after injuries to left quadriceps and back, which kept him out of cricketing action since February this year. Both Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are in the playing eleven, with the latter to be the wicket-keeper.
“Looks like a good wicket, it’s an early start, so could have a bit of moisture. Good opportunity to bowl first and exploit the first hour. A lot of guys have got opportunities,...

Opener Tino Mawoyo, who became just the third Zimbabwe batter to carry his bat through his 163 against Pakistan in just his second Test, will be in the commentary box for the upcoming Odi series between Zimbabwe and India, starting from August 18.
He speaks exclusively to Ians about Zimbabwe’s stunning reversal of fortunes and what would the hosts be planning against the visiting Indians.
Excerpts:
Q. India are playing ODIs in Zimbabwe after a gap of six years. Both teams are coming off victories from their previous Odi series. What are your expectations from the Odi series between India and Zimbabwe?
A. Well, I am expecting some exciting cricket from both sides. But talking more about the Zimbabweans, I am looking forward to see the team carry on the form that we have in the recent past – The T20 World Cup qualifier Zimbabwe won in Bulawayo six weeks ago and...

Harare, Aug 17 (Ians) The last time India came on a tour of Zimbabwe, it was in 2016 and Kl Rahul, who had been in the Test fold, was starting to get into white-ball scheme of things after a breakthrough Ipl season with Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb).
In the first Odi of that tour, making his debut in 50-over format under Ms Dhoni, Rahul became the first India batter and eleventh overall to make a century on debut. He ended the Odi leg of the tour as the leading run-getter and took Player of the Series award as well.
Six years later, Rahul will be returning to Harare as the captain of the side, to the place where his white-ball mainstay story for India began. But he is coming back after a long time on the sidelines. A groin injury was followed by sports hernia surgery and testing positive for Covid-19.
