Peacock’s new limited series “Apples Never Fall” is cut from the same cloth as “Big Little Lies,” with both shows adapted from the novels of Australian author Liane Moriarty.
“Apples Never Fall” follows a family, led by four adult children, trying to piece together the mysterious disappearance of their mother Joy (Oscar-nominee Annette Bening). Bening is reliably excellent in this limited series, as is “Jurassic Park” star Sam Neil, who plays her on-screen husband. And Jake Lacy and Allison Brie shine as two of the four adult kids. All four performances have been praised by critics and its these turns that could lead the Emmy charge for the series.
Brian Lowry (CNN) stated: “As for the old expression ‘How do you like them apples?,’ in this case, happily, the answer is quite a lot.”

Fanatic Feed: Razzie Nominations Revealed, Constellation, Ripley, Apples Never Fall All Get Trailers
It's a big day for highly anticipated new streaming series, two of which just released their first trailers.
First, we have Constellation, the AppleTV sci-fi thriller starring Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks.
Rapace plays an astronaut who returns to Earth after a stint on a space station and finds that her life has changed in a number of small, subtle ways.
In his best world-weary "go home, Walter" voice, Banks explains that astronauts have a tendency to become "unstuck" after spending too much time in space.
What does that mean, exactly?
Well, we guess we'll have to watch the spacy drama unfold to find out!
It's tough to discern much about the plot from the trailer, but it looks like the series will enter supernatural horror territory as it progresses.
There's some weirdness involving Rapace's daughter, and the trailer delivers some genuinely spine-tingling creepy kid moments.

In 2004, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” became the film with joint-most Oscar wins of all time with a whopping 11 victories, matching the total tallies of both “Titanic” and “Ben-Hur.” Those 11 Academy Awards capped off a hugely successful trilogy of movies that collectively snagged 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins in total. But yet… Peter Jackson‘s film series, adapted from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, is so, so good that, well, it could have won more. That sounds greedy and over the top, of course, but if you take a look at each film’s nominations, it’s actually very feasible that any one of the three films could have turned the bid into a win. So, with that in mind, here are five Oscar nominations that “The Lord of the Rings” films could and perhaps should have turned into victories.

Every year, dozens of science-fiction films hit theaters but only a few feature enough intelligence and power to leave a mark. The best ones challenge our minds with captivating ideas and cause us to rethink the world and our place in it. Think Steven Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey," or John Carpenter's "The Thing," all drastically different tales with unique perspectives on the universe. Or, for a little more fun, hit up Spielberg's "E.T.," George Lucas' "Star Wars," or Luc Besson's "The Fifth Element," then explore the darker nature of life with Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" and Andrew Niccol's "Gattaca."
The point is that science fiction caters to all crowds—even those needing a good twist. Luckily, the genre features several pictures designed to make heads explode with stunning third-hour revelations. Often, these plot...

Irrespective of how much the vastness of the cosmos has been explored in the pop culture landscape in recent years, the classic alien invasion plots as staple sci-fi stories will never lose their thrill factor when done right. Speaking of sci-fi classics, Apple TV+ has been on a hot streak of releasing some of the best adaptations of the genre. Although the extraterrestrial attack-oriented series Invasion doesn’t fall into the category of direct adaptation, the influence of War of the Worlds is easily identifiable from the character tropes, set design, and narrative structure.
The first season of Invasion, consisting of ten episodes, boasts enough star power and budget to amaze viewers but fails to bring anything innovative to the genre. The basic premise of the series revolves around the perspectives of different people around the Earth during the ongoing extraterrestrial attack and how it continues to affect their lives in the long run.

He may have been preceded by characters like Lord Ruthven and Carmilla, but Dracula is still the quintessential vampire, with Bram Stoker’s iconic novel boasting over two hundred cinematic adaptations and inspiring most modern vampire media. That being said, vampire movies have long worked their way out from beneath the shadow of Stoker’s gothic opus, offering up insanely varied stories about our favorite blood-sucking beasts.
And with Chris McKay’s upcoming Renfield proving that there are still fresh spins to be had on the Dracula formula, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the most under-appreciated vampire movies out there. After all, there’s nothing like discovering a hidden gem within a sea of similar genre flicks.

On the silver screen, the genre of magic realism has been crowded chock full of good movies, even franchises that have gained cult followings, as the genre retains its charm by projecting the wider, unshackled scope of imagination to the viewers, thereby evoking a sense of awe and wonder. Stan’s latest release, “The Portable Door,” adapted from the fantasy novel series “J.W. Wells and Co.” written by Tom Holt, desperately tries to replicate the charm but fails to offer anything new that genre fans haven’t seen already and offers so little in the way of worldbuilding that viewers themselves will ask for an exposition dump. Flaunting a rather heavy cast with the likes of Christoph Waltz, Sam Neil, Miranda Otto, and Patrick Gibson on board, the movie fails to justify the big names in the roles that the makers didn’t bother fleshing out even the basics of.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament took a hiatus during the pandemic as movie theaters closed for the majority of 2020-2021 and theatrical day-and-date titles on both the big screen and studios’ respective streaming platforms became more prevalent. Coming back from that brink, the studios have largely returned to their theatrical release models and the downstream monies they can bring. Not to mention their power in launching IPs around the world with big global marketing campaigns. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament for 2022, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been rife with cameos over the last fifteen years, from television hosts to hubristic billionaires who pick fights with rock stars. In Phase Four, the very nature of what makes a cameo was tested. Minor characters popped up for full episodes of "She-Hulk." Kevin Bacon played himself and became the McU-canon lynchpin of the "Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special." Bacon's ecstatic turn as himself pursued by Drax and Mantis is too substantial to be a cameo, but it works because it's cameo-adjacent. Great cameos take a recognizable actor or character and deploy them surprisingly for a brief period. Even if Bacon's appearance was supersized, it works because he seemed destined for the MCU in a marquee role. Here, director James Gunn takes advantage of the actor's self-awareness and makes him important to beloved Marvel characters.

It took four months, but Jurassic World: Dominion has crossed the billion-dollar mark. The third installment in the rebooted saga saw mainstays Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard team up with Jurassic Park originals Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neil in a world where humans and dinosaurs live side-by-side. But, of course, this is a movie, so naturally, becomes a feeding fest for the dinosaurs, and the heroes of the past and present must find a way to stop them. The reviews for Jurassic World: Dominion did the film no favors as it stands at an abysmal 29 on

Following Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick strutting its stuff and Disney’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ charge toward 1 billion, Universal and Amblin’s Jurassic World Dominion will once again prove that there’s a global appetite for moviegoing close to two years after cinemas reopened.
Jurassic World Dominion, which has Colin Trevorrow returning to the director’s chair after skipping 2018’s Fallen Kingdom, will see its worldwide box office rise to 325M+ after debuting in the U.S. and Canada with at least 125M at 4,600-plus theaters, plus another 120M+ from 59 new offshore markets including China (150M+ if you include holdovers). Already, the threequel started strong last weekend with 55.7M from 15 territories including Korea and Mexico.

How ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Co-Scribe Emily Carmichael Evolved Franchise’s DNA – Crew Call Podcast
Today on Crew Call we speak with Jurassic World Dominion co-scribe Emily Carmichael about how she broke into the Universal 5 billion-grossing series; one of the keys to wowing over filmmaker Colin Trevorrow was her screenplay redo of Disney’s 1980s sci-fi movie The Black Hole.
We also talk with Carmichael about the intense amount of drafts she did in bringing back the original Jurassic Park characters played by Laura Dern, Sam Neil and Jeff Goldblum, as well as taking the universe of humans vs. beasts in a gene-splicing world to another level. The threequel has already grossed 55M in its offshore launch in 15 markets with recording debuts in Mexico and Korea, with an opening that will easily be 100M+ stateside.

It’s not just the dinosaurs that have evolved in the Jurassic World universe, turns out the humans have as well.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Times franchise star Sam Neill, 74, observed that at the time of the first film in 1993 no one batted an eye at the age difference between he and onscreen love interest Laura Dern, who is now 55. The 20-year gap “at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady,” said Neill. His a-ha moment came years later.
“I opened a magazine and there was an article called ‘Old Geezers and Gals,'” he remembered. It included “people like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery acting with much younger people. And there I was, on the list. I thought, ‘Come on. It can’t be true.'” And then the actor says he realized, “I am 20 years older than Laura!

CAA’s acquisition of ICM Partners, the biggest shakeup in the Hollywood representation space in over a decade, continues a tradition of consolidation in the agency business. CAA and Endeavor both were launched by star agents who left established powerhouses Wma and ICM, respectively. The fastest way to grow is through acquisition or merger. Since size is crucial in the cutthroat agency business, here is how CAA would scale up in different areas if its acquisition of ICM Partners goes through to form a combined company that would continue to carry the CAA name.
Before ICM purchased the Stellar Group in October 2020, their annual billings were estimated to be around $200M, fueled by TV, TV lit and its publishing divisions. Based on that, industry insiders estimate that CAA likely shelled out more than $550M for ICM. ICM has offices in New York, Los Angeles and London, with roughly 400-plus employees.

In 2015, Grímur Hákonarson's Rams made a splash on the festival circuit, winning international acclaim. Made five years later, Jeremy Sims' take is not so much a tribute as a reimagining, shifting the action to Western Australia and featuring Sam Neil and Michael Caton as the feuding brothers whose long lives as sheep farmers are thrown into turmoil when one of their rams is found to be carrying a deadly disease. Government officials insisting that every sheep in the valley must be slaughtered and the land kept empty for two years prompts Neil's character, Colin, to take desperate measures, whilst Caton's Les looks on with a mixture of resentment, envy and growing sympathy.
Events here are spiced up by the presence of Miranda Richardson as local vet Kat, who takes a more than professional interest in Colin, but she may not be the ideal love interest for him when he's.

Leading off today’s news round-up, multi-hyphenate Mélanie Laurent is in pre-production on 2021’s WWII drama The Nightingale, starring both Fanning sisters, but Variety reports she will begin filming a project next week. The first French Amazon Prime original movie, The Mad Woman’s Ball, reunites Laurent with Breathe breakout Lou De Laâge and follows a woman in the 19th century who is institutionalized in the infamous Salpêtrière hospital in Paris when she tells her parents that she can hear the dead.
Coming off this year’s King of Staten Island, Judd Apatow will next (per the Netflix Twitter account) direct a feature about a group of actors and actresses stuck in a hotel during a pandemic while attempting to complete a film. It’s co-written by Pam Brady who’s had her hand in offbeat comedy ranging from Lady Dynamite to Hamlet 2.

Exclusive: Jurassic World: Dominion began pre-production more than 18 months ago when the world was a very different place.
The $165M Universal blockbuster wrapped this morning at the UK’s Pinewood Studios after an unprecedented shoot, which required 40,000 Covid tests, millions of dollars spent on protocols, and for cast and key crew to isolate in a bubble for months.
“There are a lot of emotions,” director Colin Trevorrow told me last night on his way to shoot the movie’s finale, which will include “Jurassic legacy actors Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and newcomers to the movie such as Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise [who we’ve separately heard could have a big role in future instalments]…and some dinosaurs, of course.”
“I’m not sure I can put it into words,” continues Trevorrow. “It has been remarkable. Our crew and our cast has been so resilient. All producers have worked around the...

Two summers ago, I could not stop talking about (and playing) one of the best movie tie-in games I’d ever gone hands-on with. Jurassic World Evolution took all the things that made Michael Crichton’s story of “science run amok” so good and turned it into a park building sim that excelled on every level. Now, Frontier Developments has released Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition, and they’ve brought the property to the Nintendo Switch, giving a whole new segment of gamers the chance to play the defining Jurassic Park game experience.
As the name implies, Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition collects all of the Dlc released in the last two years into one fun package. There’s a total of 68 dinosaurs now, up from the original game’s 42 – for those keeping count, that’s 28 more chances for chaos to break out in your park and guests to be trampled and/or eaten.

Hulu dropped a first look at its “Animaniacs” reboot during New York Comic Con Sunday, featuring an animated Steven Spielberg using “Jurassic Park”-style technology to bring back the Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister, Dot.
The clip was released during a virtual panel with “Animaniacs” executive producers and the voice cast, which you can view via the video above. The tease, which is from Episode 1 of the streaming service’s upcoming reboot, starts at the 18:40 mark and goes until 20:13.
In the brief scene, you’ll see an animated version of the iconic filmmaker, who produced the original “Animaniacs” series, bring cartoon takes on “Jurassic Park” characters Alan, Ellie and Ian, plus Hulu and Warner Bros. executives, out to see the revived Yakko, Wakko and Dot in a bit that’s basically straight out of the 1993 film.

Remember in The Lost World: Jurassic Park when Dr. Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) mocks his fellow humans for admiring the dinosaurs when he jokingly warns them that eventually there’s running and screaming? Well, Sam Neil is promising the same thing in the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion.
The actor and star of the original film recently assured fans that his role, as well as Goldblum and Laura Dern’s, would in fact be significant and not just a cameo and his latest tease for the masses is that they can expect the same amount of scares as before.
“I can’t give anything away, but a real-life dinosaur is a compelling thing to someone who has devoted his life to them. There will be screaming. We know this.”

After a long hiatus, Rick and Morty Season 4 returned! Again!
Rick and Morty aired the first 5 episodes of its 10-episode season in late 2019. Now the back half has arrived as well. Thankfully this is just the beginning for Rick and Morty and Adult Swim.
Prior to the start of Rick and Morty season 4, series co-creator Justin Roiland broke the news about Rick and Morty‘s future with an Instagram post. The illustration states that 70 more episodes of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty are on the way. Going by last season’s 10 episodes, that’s potentially seven more seasons of Rick and Morty.
The official word from the network states that “Adult Swim has made a long-term overall deal with the creators that will include 70 new episodes of the critically acclaimed series that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe.

It’s not every day that an international remake retains the same screenwriter, but that’s the case with Christian Torpe and his script for the Danish film Silent Heart moving to director Roger Michell’s hands as Blackbird. I haven’t seen the original, but the subject’s universality has me thinking very little besides cultural changes were necessary for the translation. Assisted suicide is a hot-button issue in many countries and a family’s ability to get on-board a member’s decision to go through with one is tough no matter where they hail. It doesn’t matter if that acquiescence gets everyone together for a final weekend either because death’s finality is easier to handle in the abstract. Second thoughts, new revelations, and plain old fear will risk resolve as the time grows nearer.

Just in time for the Cannes announcements, Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, which debuted at last year’s event, is headed to U.S. theaters. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, the Amazon Studios feature had a solid opening in the U.K. last month. The title headlines a fairly wide pack of newcomers this weekend, including A24’s Lean On Pete by British filmmaker Andrew Haigh and starring Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny and Charlie Plummer. Great Point Media/Paladin are launching Where Is Kyra? with Michelle Pfeiffer and Kiefer Sutherland in roles the director, Andrew Dosunmu, swears fans of the two will be surprised by. And Well Go USA is opening Tribeca ’17 thriller, The Endless in New York before heading to L.A. next week.
Also opening in limited release is Warner Bros.’ Pandas. Other titles making bows this weekend include Sweet Country with Sam Neil and Bryan Bishop as well as Shout!

The new adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s timeless tale of Peter Rabbit has been plagued with bad PR from the moment its first trailer hit the internet back in September 2017, some even went as far as to nickname the half live-action/half digimation as the “anti-Paddington”.
From accusations of being too boisterous and loud in its representation of an old childhood favourite, to the truly ridiculous outrage over mocking those with allergies, its detractors seemed to be literally falling over each other to denounce the movie before it even hit our screens. Which begs the question: why have so many people taken against a film they have yet to see? Could it be because our boisterous hero is being voiced by James Corden, who depending on who you ask is either “a renaissance man for the Twenty First Century”, or “a hugely annoying know-all”. Rick and Morty Season 4 has been confirmed! Here's everything you need to know, from the release date to episode details.
Rick and Morty has taken notoriously long breaks in between seasons. It’s not as much of a rarity for hotly popular television shows as it once was, but fans certainly get antsy in anticipation for their favorite show to return. While we had very little information on the prospects of Rick and Morty Season 4 since the end of the last season because of some contract difficulties, it looks like those have all been straightened out.
Series co-creator Justin Roiland finally broke the silence on the negotiations with an Instagram post. The illustration states that 70 more episodes of Adult Swim's Rick and Morty are on the way. Going by last season's 10 episodes, that's potentially seven more seasons of Rick and Morty.

Finally, everyone is on the same page. Sort of.
Rebecca and Diego not only became privy to the colloidal silver in the blood info, but they also discovered Lucy appearing in an old video taken at the Alcatraz prison over fifty years ago. That's right, Lucy is a '63!
Which I'm sure is huge news for them because that verifies that Emerson has been keeping secrets. Although, to be fair, Emerson has pretty much always kept secrets. He's not really an open book when it comes to his reappearing prisoners or certainly with his matters of the heart. Should they really be surprised that he's kept everything hush hush?
Unfortunately, because viewers already knew the secrets, any real chance for new thought provoking discussion will probably have to wait until next Monday's finale.
But Lucy waking up was a huge moment. It's been Emerson's driven quest to find any prisoner...

TORONTO -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. on Wednesday said it is developing a homegrown reality series with "The Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan that will give Canadians a chance to live out their dreams.
Keoghan already collaborated on FitTV's "No Opportunity Wasted", a U.S. outdoor reality series offering 26 American contestants 72 hours and $3,000 to pursue their dreams.
Kirstine Layfield, CBC's executive director of network programming, said the CBC and Keoghan are developing their own format, less tailored to the outdoors but still based on Keoghan's "No Opportunity Wasted" book and philosophy.
The CBC also is working on "Triple Sensation", a music- and dance-driven reality series produced in partnership with Garth Drabinsky, who is set to stand trial for his role in the downfall of live theater production company Livent Inc.
Other shows announced for the 2007-08 schedule include "The Tudors", an Irish-Canadian co-production about Henry VIII starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Sam Neil, Jeremy Northam and Henry Czerny. The series is airing on Showtime in the U.S.
