Littered with an international cast comprised of Theo James, Stephanie Sigman, Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña, Tessa Thompson and Caleb Landry Jones, while John Michael McDonagh doesn’t make it three for three with the notably absent Brendan Gleeson, this might count as his third trip to Park City. The festival has been a good luck charm for this filmmaker of Irish decent as both his debut, and sophomore films have played passionately well with critics and auds alike. With rich moral complex and comedic contributions in Irish cinema (2011’s The Guard and 2014’s Calvary), the English-born filmmaker changed sceneries, bringing this crime comedy across the pond for a shoot Stateside. War On Everyone shot in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past April.

Brendan Gleeson, Chris O'Dowd, Kelly Reilly and Aidan Gillen are all set to join Protagonist Pictures' "Cavalry", the second film from John Michael McDonagh following last year's debut effort "The Guard" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The blackly comic drama details the story of a good priest (Gleeson) intent on making the world a better place who is saddened by the spiteful and confrontational inhabitants of his small country town.
Chris Clark and Flora Fernandez-Marengo are producing while much of the crew that worked on "The Guard" is reuniting for this. Shooting kicks off late Summer.

There are several “smaller” films from this year that I haven’t been able to access, either due to geography or timing; one that I especially regret missing is The Guard. The feature debut of playwright John Michael McDonagh (brother to Martin McDonagh, writer and director of the fantastic In Bruges) stars Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle as two cops in Ireland — one a native, the other a transplant. Reviews have been rather enthusiastic in their appraisal of, well, everything, but the work of McDonagh seems to stand out for those lucky enough to see it.
So, even though I have yet to check out his first film, color me excited for the second. ScreenDaily (via ThePlaylist) is reporting on the establishment of Reprisal Films, a company set up by the filmmaker and producers Chris Clark, Flora Fernandez-Marengo, and Elizabeth Eves.
