Blood Creek gets DVDate; Vampire loses Lesbian

26 October 2009 10:53 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Lionsgate Home Entertainment sent along the news of a DVD street date for Blood Creek, the Joel Schumacher-directed chiller that it sneaked into a handful of theaters in September. We also got word of a rather disappointing title change to the British film Lesbian Vampire Killers (pictured) for its U.S. home release.

Blood Creek (previously known as Town Creek and just plain Creek), starring Dominic Purcell and Henry Cavill as brothers seeking vengeance against a group continuing decades-old Nazi occult experiments, hits DVD January 19. The movie will be accompanied by Schumacher’s audio commentary, and the retail price is $26.98. Meanwhile, Lesbian Vampire Killers has been rechristened simply Vampire Killers by distributors The Weinstein Company and Vivendi Entertainment for its disc launch December 29. Popular UK comic actors James Corden and Mathew Horne topline this spoof of such sexy Hammer treats as Twins Of Evil and Lust For A Vampire, »

Two Opening Clips from The Descent 2

22 October 2009 11:13 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

The official site for “The Descent 2″, the sequel to Neil Marshall’s all-girls bloodfest has put up two clips from the movie, both from the opening moments. Jon Harris takes over directing chores from Marshall (who produces), with original leads Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Jackson Mendoza, and MyAnna Buring returning from the first movie. Distraught, confused, and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to plausibly explain to the authorities what happened – or why she’s covered in her friends’ blood – Sarah is forced back to the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing companions. As the rescue party drives deeper into uncharted caverns, nightmarish visions of the recent past begin to haunt Sarah and she starts to realize the full horror and futility of the mission. Subjected to the suspicion and mistrust of the group and confronted once more by the inbred, »

Fall Frights: The Descent (Film Review)

20 October 2009 1:08 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

Originally published, 08/04/2006

The Descent is proof positive that there’s nothing wrong with a timeworn horror premise that an application of good cinematic smarts can’t fix. Writer/director Neil Marshall’s follow-up to Dog Soldiers is far from the first film about a small group of people entering a confined environment and being picked off one by one by the local critters, but it stands so far above the likes of The Cave that it seems unfair to even mention them in the same context. The Descent goes back to horror basics in the best way possible, preying on primal fears of the dark as six female friends, who gather every year to take part in some sort of group adventure, decide »

Fantasia ’09: Lesbian Vampire Killers (Film Review)

25 July 2009 1:02 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

I had a choice to see one of two Fantasia films playing at the same time: A Gay American Werewolf In London or Lesbian Vampire Killers. I went with the latter because: 1) The first movie doesn’t exist, and 2) I’m a sucker for catchy titles. However, horror films, like porno flicks, with memorable monikers usually don’t live up to their names. But Lesbian Vampire Killers (which screened at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival this month) does—and not in all the ways you would expect. I was anticipating a bunch of girl-on-girl action with topless, bloodsucking lesbian ladies engaging in titillatingly licentious and raunchy sexual and violent acts, and while Lvk does have its share of girl-on-girl kissing and bloodletting, director Phil Claydon stays away from profligacy and pornography and instead delivers a crowd-pleasing, entertaining horror-comedy in the vein of Shaun Of The Dead.

Exclusive: MyAnna Buring and Ray Panthaki talk City Rats -- Plus MyAnna talks about her next movie Lesbian Vampire Killers

23 February 2009 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

While Sundance/Slamdance happened about a month ago, I’m only now editing the final tape of video interviews that I recorded at the Festival. I know it’s a bit late…but it takes a lot of time to edit, render and post almost 7 hours of video. So I hope you understand why it’s taken so long. Anyway, another of the many interviews I did while at this year’s Slamdance/Sundance was with MyAnna Buring and Ray Panthaki for their new movie “City Rats”. The film premiered at this year’s Slamdance and it’s about eight people living in London and how their lives are interconnected. During our interview, the two stars talked about working on “City Rats”, what it’s like being at the Festival, and MyAnna talked about her upcoming movie “Lesbian Vampire Killers”. As of now, I’m unsure of a domestic release date, »
