Jake Tapper talks to CNN viewers all week, but Sunday is when he knows he can have a longer conversation.
In July of 2016, David Brown, the police chief of Dallas, came to Tapper’s weekend program, “State of the Union” for an exchange about five police officers killed during an act of domestic terrorism. Their interview took place over three segments and nearly 40 minutes.
“One of the gifts of the Sunday show is that you can really talk for an extensive period of time with somebody and do a very long interview,” says Tapper, who engaged in his own sizable discussion with Variety earlier this week. “You don’t have to do 30 guests for three minutes each. You can do one, and I think that the best shows we’ve done are when we really give somebody the time.”

Are SNL's growing pains over as it enters its 40th season? It certainly didn't seem that way from the show's bizarre season opener. Our first victory in the great 2014 overhaul of "The View": Rosie O'Donnell appears to be rejoining the show alongside veteran panelist Whoopi Goldberg. We basically asked for this. Now let's perfect "The View" once and for all -- we need Kathy Griffin to join the show too. A three-comedienne panel would be a strange new world for "The View," but Kathy Griffin is simply the perfect fit. She's candid, she's able to talk about anything, and she's actually willing to be vulnerable and even solemn when the occasion calls for it. She gets "The View." And now "The View" should get her. Here are six reasons why: 1. She has a great friendship and onscreen rapport with Rosie. Kathy Griffin and Rosie O'Donnell could talk about anything. They don't have to try to be interesting because they're actively interested in everything. It's sort of addicting, particularly in this clip from Rosie's short-lived Own show.

Former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer stepped in it last week when he said in a National Journal that interview outgoing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-va) set off his gaydar, an interview that also contained some unflattering remarks about Senator Dianne Feinstein, whom he likened to a streetwalker. On State of the Union Sunday morning, host Candy Crowley let Feinstein take a swing.

Here's a leftover from Sundance that's also playing on Netflix Instant - Michael Cusumano on "Mitt".
In one scene from Greg Whiteley’s documentary about the two failed presidential runs of the former governor of Massachusetts, Romney complains bitterly about Candy Crowley's interference in the second debate, which led to the infamous “Please proceed, Governor” moment. According to Mitt it was not the moderator’s place to comment or press the candidate for answers.

CNN anchor Candy Crowley sat down for a lengthy interview with Wisconsin's Republican Gov. Scott Walker on Sunday morning’s State of the Union on CNN. There, she asked Walker about the Republican Party’s opposition to an extension of long-term unemployment benefits without a spending offset and an increase in the federal minimum wage. She asked how the Gop expects to expand its ranks given its opposition to these and other programs that are enjoyed primarily by low-income Americans.

On Sunday morning's Reliable Sources, CNN viewers got a preview of what they can expect if they tune in New Year's Eve when Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin will reprise their hosting duties, which last year included some simulated oral sex. Things got particularly awkward when Griffin flummoxed host Brian Stelter by asking if he's gotten a chance to "spoon" with CNN's Candy Crowley.

Former Speaker of the House and co-host of CNN's Crossfire Newt Gingrich appeared on New Day Monday morning to discuss conservative backlash toward his praise of late civil rights icon Nelson Mandela, and changed his tune from the explanation he offered Candy Crowley over the weekend. While citing a misunderstanding of Mandela's legacy, Gingrich also blamed "elements of the left, particularly on one news channel, who went overboard in trying to use this in a chance to attack Ronald Reagan."...

State of the Union host Candy Crowley asked Senator Rand Paul (R-ky) if Senator Ted Cruz (R-tx) was the "de facto head" of the Republican Party—as many saw him as the author of the strategy to tie the defunding of Obamacare to government funding, usurping House Speaker John Boehner's (R-oh) authority—and if he had any intentions of leaving the Republican Party given its internal rifts.

Following the broadcast of a portion of Mitt Romney’s exclusive interview with CNN host Jake Tapper, CNN State of the Union anchor Candy Crowley and chief political analyst Gloria Borger were brought in offer their reactions. Crowley said that Romney’s refusal to entirely embrace the tactics of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx) was to be expected because he has always been a Republican in the mold of Sen. John McCain (R-az) rather than a tea party conservative.

Howard Dean excoriated Candy Crowley's interview with Ted Cruz on CNN Sunday morning, calling it "a very long interview with very little content," and saying "God help us" if Cruz ever became more than a U.S. Senator. CNN anchor Candy Crowley was asked to react to President Barack Obama’s defense of the National Security Agency’s domestic communications monitoring programs on Friday. Crowley said that the president is successfully defining the Nsa’s monitoring programs because no one is seriously arguing for any major reforms. “Nobody wants to be the person that stops or curtails the program that might stop the next terrorist,” Crowley observed.

The Republican National Committee won't boycott Fox during the presidential debates if Fox Television Studios produces the Hillary Clinton miniseries set to air on NBC in 2014, Rnc chair Reince Priebus told CNN's Candy Crowley. The Rnc has said that it will not let NBC (or MSNBC) air Gop primary debates should the network follow through with plans to air the Diane Lane-starring miniseries -- and the same would go for CNN if it airs a scheduled Clinton documentary. But it will not extend that same boycott to the people or organizations responsible for...

Two days after a report emerged that Fox Television studios may produce NBC's Hillary Clinton miniseries, Republican National Committee (Rnc) Chair Reince Priebus dismissed the connection as "totally ridiculous and stupid."
In an interview with CNN's "State Of The Union," host Candy Crowley asked Priebus if ties between Fox Television Studios and Fox News would subject the news network to the same debate boycott threat levied last Monday against CNN and NBC.
Priebus clarified his threat was pointed at "the company that puts the miniseries and the documentaries on the air for the American people to view."
“I don’t know the truth of anything you’re talking about,” Priebus said regarding the Fox links. “But I do know what’s very clear is that the company that puts these things on the air to promote Hillary Clinton, including CNN, is the company that is not going to be involved in our debates.

It’s “totally ridiculous and stupid” to suggest Fox News Channel will lose access to Republican primary debates in 2016 if Fox TV Studios produces NBC’s proposed Hillary Clinton miniseries, said the Gop’s Reince Priebus today. “The big question for me is what company is putting it on the air, who’s doing the work. I’m not interested in if they are using the same caterer or whether they all drink Diet Coke. I’m not boycotting Diane Lane, I’m going to boycott the companies that put the miniseries and documentaries on the air for the American people to view,” the Republican National Committee chair told CNN’s Candy Crowley Sunday. “The company that puts these things on the air to promote Hillary Clinton, including CNN, is the company that is not going to be involved in our debates. Period,” he added of his threat last week...

Candy Crowley's not ready to pull a Chuck Todd on her network -- yet. While Todd blasted NBC for its plans to air a mini-series about Hillary Clinton close to her possible 2016 presidential run, calling it a "total nightmare" on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Crowley couched her words. She told Politico that while a branch of CNN producing a documentary made her "life more difficult," CNN and CNN Films are separate entities with no influence on each other's content. "This is a commissioned documentary from people who are not in the employ of...
