Soccer Aid for Unicef 2020 has, thanks to the generosity of ITV viewers, raised a record £11,552,577 – the most the match has ever raised in the history of the show, which was broadcast exclusively live on ITV and Stv.
For the first time in the match’s history, donations were matched by both the UK government and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, meaning every £1 donated becomes £3 – up to £3 million – until Tuesday 6th October 2020.
This year’s teams of celebrities and former professional footballers played for ‘Generation Covid’, and the money raised will help Unicef stop the spread of coronavirus and limit the impact on children’s lives around the world.
The match, which was played behind-closed-doors at Manchester United Fc’s Old Trafford, ended 1-1 and so went to penalties. The game marked a return to the North West following last year’s game at Chelsea Fc’s Stamford Bridge.

She’s pregnant with their first child, but when British singer Cheryl first met future boyfriend Liam Payne, romance was nowhere on their radar.
The year was 2008, and Payne was just 14 years old at the time — auditioning in front of Cheryl, Simon Cowell and Irish entertainment manager Louis Walsh for the U.K. version of The X-Factor.
He would be cut a few rounds later, but Payne told judges he was “here to win” during his first audition. He then launched into a smooth cover of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” — even winking at Cheryl during his performance.

Nick Grimshaw mistakenly called Cheryl Fernandez-Versini by her former name of Cheryl Cole during 'X Factor' auditions. The 30-year-old radio host - who's been added to the 'X Factor' line up this year - accidentally called the brunette beauty by the name she used during her marriage to soccer star Ashley Cole as he asked about her vote. Following Nick's blunder, Cheryl snapped: ''It's Cheryl or Chezza!'' Meanwhile, fellow judge Rita Ora responded: ''I'm backing away!'' Simon Cowell, on the other hand, simply said: ''Awkward, awkward.'' Earlier this week, Cheryl's former Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh compared Nick Grimshaw to Marmite, saying she can understand...

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was reportedly furious after being introduced as Cheryl Cole. The 'X Factor' judge officially changed her name after tying the knot with French restaurateur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini earlier this year, dropping her first husband, soccer star Ashley Cole's surname for good. However, the talent show's warm-up act Ian Royce is said to have referred to her by her old name before Sunday's (26.10.14) results show because he was struggling to pronounce her new French name correctly. A source claimed Cheryl ''looked really peeved. She said, 'Cole is not my name!'' The insider added to The Sun newspaper: ''Royce said he had trouble pronouncing...

An audience member at the auditions in Wembley on Saturday (02.08.14) said: ''Simon was asking if they were hiding secret girlfriends. ''Cheryl just leapt in and said that if they were they mustn't cheat on their lovers. She left them in no doubt...

Yesterday, Roy Hodgson named his 25 man England squad for the upcoming vital 2014 World Cup Qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine. In it he named some familiar faces, he kept some players who performed in the Scotland and handed call ups to one or two fresh faces.
In this entry, I will be giving you the squad and deciding whether they were the right calls position by position and if someone more deserving should replace a player named in the squad, I will justify why they should be given a look-in.
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster, Joe Hart, John Ruddy
The selection of the keepers is quite predictable – since there is such a small pool of talent playing in the top flight. Joe Hart is clearly number one, but it is nice to see Forster has got a call up after impressing in the Champions League last year.

Wayne Rooney is a surprise inclusion in the England squad for their clash with “The Auld Enemy” on Wednesday night.
The want-away United striker has played a mere 45 minutes in pre-season, and major questions will be asked whether a player with so little game time should have been included.
Aside from “Wazza”, it’s a vital preparation game for Roy Hodgson ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. He’ll also have a chance to blood 31-year-old striker Rickie Lambert, the Southampton star who scored 15 Premier League goals last season is yet to be capped for England.
Scotland, under new manager Gordon Strachan, have been going well of late, winning 1-0 in Croatia courtesy of a Robert Snodgrass strike. It’ll be a chance for the former Liverpool manager to try out certain players, with international debuts expected for Brighton and Hove Albion’s defender Gordon Greer and Dundee...

Geordie Shore's cast has been given a shake-up for series seven with 20-year-old Marnie Simpson joining the ranks of the MTV reality show.
Simpson, a former Miss Newcastle runner-up, replaces Sophie Kasaei on the show.
Kasaei was recently dropped from the show following allegations of racism.
Her replacement is Kasaei's younger cousin and sources have revealed that she immediately makes an impact on the show and has already had a fling with one of the male stars.
Speaking about joining the series, Simpson said: "I think the girls will find it hard not to like me, but I know they will think I'm prettier than them. I don't give in to guys easily, so the boys will have a chase on their hands - I know Gaz will try it on for sure."

Liverpool look to have beaten rivals Sunderland to the signature of Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho, with the player agreeing terms at Anfield, according to the Shields Gazette.
The Black Cats made an enquiry for Cissokho last month with manager Paolo Di Canio left frustrated in his attempts to bring in a new fullback at the Stadium of Light after Spurs blocked their attempts to re-loan Danny Rose.
Rose enjoyed a successful season during his short stint on Wearside in the 2012/13 campaign but the North East club have been forced into looking elsewhere for a left-back.
And their search for a new defender could continue with news that Liverpool have agreed terms with Cissokho.
Reports in Spain yesterday claimed the Valencia star has agreed on a move to Anfield, having been linked with the move for much of the summer.

English football is currently in its most depressive state that it has been for a large numbers of years, following exit from the Euro 2012 championships at the hands of a far superior Italian side and our Youth teams further disappointing at their respective major competitions this year.
One of the major criticisms of the current England set up is that our players are lacking technical ability – passing, dribbling and ball control essentially. I disagree with this theory. In my opinion the reason that our national game has been poor in recent years is due to there not being a consistent system played across all age groups, from under 16s to the senior side. Many other successful nations have all of their national teams play the same system, by creating this system it means that any player would be perfectly competent when called up to the senior side as they would...

A source told the Daily Star that Cheryl has put the whole Ashley episode well behind her, but it still strikes an unpleasant chord that Will.i.am would hang out with one of the Howes.
The Black Eyed Peas star was spotted on a date with Carla Howe, whose twin sister Melissa slept with the 'Fight For This Love' hit maker's cheating- hubby, at a Hollywood restaurant.
Howe's sister Melissa had previously claimed that she went to Ashley's.

Chelsea’s second friendly in their 2013 summer tour of the Far East, saw them up against a Malaysia XI and playing in a tropical humid heat in the Shah Alam stadium on the outskirts of Kaula Lumpur, and in front of noisy Asian supporters mostly donning the familiar blue strip.
Chelsea took to the pitch with 11 players, of which only one Marco van Ginkel was meant to play longer than 45 minutes.
In a 4 –2 – 3 – 1 formation, Chelsea lined up with Australian Mark Schwarzer in goal, Bertrand, Jt, Chalobah and Ivanovic across the back 4, the aforementioned Van Ginkel and old hand Michael Essien in front of them, and a midfield trio of De Bruyne, Traore and Hazard providing support to former West Brom loanee Romelu Lukaku up front.

Everton duo Morouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines are set to be subject to a £40 million bid from Manchester United this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Premier League champions are reportedly closing in on the pair, as David Moyes begins his revolution at Old Trafford.
Midfielder Fellaini’s £23.5 million release clause expires on the 15th August, and United are keen to get a deal for the utility man wrapped up by then.
The Belgian international has also been linked with a move to Arsenal, but that looks set to fall through as Arsene Wenger’s priority this summer is a new striker.
United have already had a summer bid for left-back Baines rejected, thought to be somewhere in the region of £10 million.
The Red Devils will however make an improved offer and are prepared to match Everton’s £16 million valuation of the 28-year-old fullback.

Football is arguably the most popular sport on the planet, although in 2012, the sport had to take a back seat with greater focus on the Olympics across the globe. Nevertheless, the greatest footballers on the planet continued to entertain week in and week out, come rain or shine (although maybe not snow). Some of the greatest sporting moments of 2012 revolved around the beautiful game, such as the remarkable unbeaten season for Juventus in Italy, or the adrenaline-fuelled finish to the Premier League season.

According to the Daily Mail, Roman Abramovich has made a sensational U-turn on Frank Lampard’s future and is set to open talks over a new contract for the England midfielder, who scored the winner in last night’s friendly win over Brazil at Wembley.
The Mail say talks about him staying are at a preliminary stage, with sources at Stamford Bridge insisting that the talks were ‘positive’ and the club will formalise things with a firm offer, though the precise terms have yet to be discussed. This comes after a fans’ protest at the player’s situation, which Chelsea owner Abramovich is aware of.
So far this season Lampard has scored an impressive 10 times in 17 Premier League games since coming back from injury, and is now second in the list of all-time leading scorers at the club – just five goals from equalling Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 in a Chelsea shirt.

Both of these teams needed a win to boost their chances of a top-four finish. But it was the home-side who emerged victorious thanks to two early goals. A sixth-minute Juan Mata strike then a Frank Lampard penalty ten minutes later gave Chelsea the win. Theo Walcott did reply in the 58th minute but it wasn’t enough for Arsenal.
Line-Ups:
Chelsea (4-2-3-1)
Petr Cech, Cesar Azpilicueta, Branislav Ivanovic, Ashley Cole, Ramires, Frank Lampard, Juan Mata, Oscar (Ryan Bertrand 72’), Eden Hazard (Marko Marin 88’), Fernando Torres (Demba Ba 80’)
Despite hopes he might have been fit for the game Chelsea captain John Terry could only make the bench. Manager Rafa Benitez also chose to leave out impressive new signing Demba Ba in favour of Fernando Torres. Benitez also chose to start keep the “Three Amigos” of Hazard, Mata and Oscar playing behind Ba – and also continued with Ramires and Lampard as holding midfielders.
