"Contrary to what some people may think about me, I'm quite traditional in the family sense," Lady Gaga said in the the new "Inside The Outside" documentary, which premiered Thursday night on MTV. And believe it or not, she's completely serious.
How do we know? Well, because she's immensely proud of her Italian heritage, something she revealed during the show, when she took us through the basics of making a make a mean red sauce ... a staple of the traditional Italian Sunday dinner.
"[On] Sunday we make red gravy, tomato Pomodoro ... we boil the tomatoes and add the basil and the garlic and the salt and the pepper in these huge vats in the back yard, and then jar it for the year," she said. "And then on Sunday we put it in the pot, we spice it, let it simmer all day, and make sausage and meatballs, and pasta — we've...

Director Davi Russo recalls Gaga's crucial wardrobe swap during MTV documentary taping.
By James Montgomery

When he was tapped to direct "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside," Davi Russo knew he was going to get an opportunity to do something all Little Monsters dream of: spend hours with Mother Monster and ask her practically anything.
But he probably never thought he'd also be giving her wardrobe advice. Though, as soon as filming began, he quickly realized that would be part of his responsibilities too. Luckily, like Gaga, Russo is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn, and he currently lives on the Lower East Side, the same place Gaga haunted during her formative years. And so, though he'd just met her, he felt like the two shared enough background for him to offer a few sartorial suggestions.

Underneath the layers of over-the-top outfits and catchy dance tunes, Lady Gaga has always remained loyal to her friends, family and army of Little Monsters. That was just one of many points made in the MTV documentary "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside," which dove into Gaga's pre- and post-fame life.
During "Lady Gaga: The After-Show," MTV News' James Montgomery chatted with many of the singer's confidants, including Semi Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter, Lady Starlight, documentary director Davi Russo and producer Fernando Garibay.
As the opening act for her worldwide Monster Ball Tour, Tranter knows more than anyone about the singer's devotion, calling her "the most loyal friend you could ever ask for.

In recent videos, she's messed around with a zombie ("Born This Way") and Jesus and Judas ("Judas"), and now it seems that Lady Gaga is looking to get with Enrique Iglesias — or someone that looks like him — in the upcoming clip for her new single, "The Edge of Glory."
According to a casting notice that E! News got their paws on, Gaga is looking for a hot dude to make out with in the video. Specifically, the notice asks for a "Puerto Rican or Dominican type badass" who "must be willing to kiss Lady Gaga ... Think Enrique Iglesias."
In addition to the hot guy, the casting call also is seeking "Couture Doctors" who will wear smocks and black gloves, adding "think 'Dr. 90210'.

Lady Gaga is perhaps a bigger fan of her fans than they are of her. She never passes up a chance to thank her Little Monsters for helping her go from scrappy New York performer to legitimate pop superstar. That appreciation is expressed in the MTV documentary "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside," airing tonight at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Et/Pt on MTV.
During the hour-long, exclusive chat, Gaga goes into great detail about her life in New York, her rise to fame, her love for her family and how she began to grow a fanbase on the Lower East Side of New York City thanks to her outlandish stage persona...

Davi Russo had the distinct pleasure of directing the new MTV documentary "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside," airing Thursday at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Et/Pt on MTV, which focuses on Gaga's rise to fame and the moments and people who gave her the strength to become Lady Gaga.
In the special, Gaga wears a leather jacket, and MTV News had the opportunity to speak to Russo about how she chose that particular piece of clothing for the chat. "This is one of those things where you know you're going to meet this person that's bigger than life. And, people are just people. When she came out, there was this amazing moment where it's like she comes waltzing out in this pink majestic outfit with this huge bow on her head and she's coming out with the entourage," he recalled.

Nicola Formichetti, Lady Starlight, Fernando Garibay, Jimmy Iovine and Wale? While many can claim that they've contributed to Lady Gaga's musical success, D.C. rapper Wale insists that he wants full credit — jokingly, of course.
"I made her whole career," he said Wednesday (May 25) on "RapFix Live" of Gaga, who is the focus of MTV's documentary "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside," airing Thursday at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on MTV.
In 2009, Gaga appeared on Wale's "Chillin'," the lead single off of his debut album Attention Deficit. Though Gaga had already released her own debut a year earlier, it took some time for The Fame to earn the multiplatinum success it has now, giving...

There is a moment during Lady Gaga's "Inside the Outside" documentary when she refers to herself as "a perpetual underdog," which seems like an odd thing for a woman who's sold more than 15 million albums worldwide to say.
But then you listen to her new Born This Way album, you take a look at her rather astonishing career, her never-ending tour, her collection of over-the-top music videos, and that statement begins to make sense. Lady Gaga truly is a perpetual underdog, at least in her own mind, and there's a surprising amount of evidence to support that claim.
Before she was adored by millions, she was a misunderstood kid, then a rebel, and then she struck out on her own, struggling to get noticed...

If it feels like Lady Gaga has been everywhere lately, that's because, well, she has. In the run-up to Monday's launch of her eagerly anticipated Born This Way album, the chameleonic pop superstar has pushed into hyper-drive to get the word out about the disc. In the process, she's set new high-water marks for album promotion by blanketing the airwaves, newsstands, billboards and the Internet with images and stunts aimed at making it impossible to avoid hearing or reading about her second studio effort.
"Her quote to me was 'I want to penetrate pop culture,' " said senior writer Brian Hiatt, who wrote the upcoming Rolling Stone magazine cover story on Gaga after spending a week on-and-off with the singer a month ago as she was finishing up vocals...

Chicago – “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance is happily married now with two young children, but the road getting there was turbulent and sometimes still is. While that’s real life, romance films often end with the lucky guy getting the pretty girl and them living happily ever.
By contrast, “Blue Valentine” is often much more, well, blue. More important, it’s just genuinely real. The romantic drama feels somewhat like a fly-on-the-wall documentary (Cianfrance’s primary experience is in TV documentaries) even though it’s not billed or scripted that way. It understands the true dichotomy between our happy and heavy hearts. The film, which was released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 10, 2011, is one of the best movies of 2010 that didn’t win an Oscar.
