The X Factor is apparently shaking things up once again with plans to introduce guest fifth judges during the live shows. Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart's names have already been thrown out there, and - of course - this gives Louis Walsh his chance to return.
In the face of dipped ratings, Simon Cowell needs to find a sensational hired gun each week. These are the stars who'd make the show utterly unmissable (and no, Sinitta, you can't have a go).
1. Sir Tom Jones
What better way to get back at The Voice UK than to jump ship to The X Factor? Sir Tom would presumably love to waggle two fingers at the BBC, who earlier this week he declared can "go f*ck themselves". In fact the Silver Bear seems to have gotten particularly outspoken recently - take his views on Engelbert Humperdinck: "Once a c**t,...

Last week's group challenges brought us plenty of ups and downs (and an unforgivable number of missed lyrics). We're at the second stage of Boot Camp this week, and we're in for plenty more drama as the contestants will be singing individually.
We've heard there's going to be a wardrobe malfunction to rival Madonna's amongst plenty of other memorable moments and we're already on the edge of our seats. Join us from 7pm as we bring you all the action from Boot Camp as it happens...
20:59So that's it for this week! Thank you for joining us, as always it's been loads of fun. Next week it's time for the Six Chair Challenge. The trailer looks particularly dramatic and best of all, it looks like Simon will be sporting some interesting facial hair! Join us on Sunday 4th October at 7pm and we'll be liveblogging it as it happens!

Saturday nights are no longer for going out - The X Factor is finally returning to our small screens this weekend with new hosts, a fresh judging panel and a fair few format shake-ups.
But whatever happened to the finalists of the first ever series - "barking bloody mad" Rowetta Satchell, red-haired wannabe rocker Tabby Callaghan, cheesy best friend duo 2 to Go and eventual winner Steve Brookstein?
Roberta Howett
Roberta Howett went from unhappy telecommunications worker to Louis Walsh's Dublin darling after her successful X Factor audition. But perhaps it was the curse of the Walsh that resulted in her early exit from the series when she became the first act to be eliminated.
Now 33, Roberta appeared on the debut album of Spanish composer Toni Castells in 2007. She finally released her debut album in 2010, its lead single 'Beautiful Lies' became her first Top 40 single in the Irish Singles Chart,...

It's time to face the music. Possibly unable to bear saying "Cheryl Fernandez-Versini" one more time, Peter Dickson - the voice of X Factor itself - has announced that he's decided to "check out and cut loose". Oh well, at least we'll always have Rachel Adedeji.
But the paradox is that while Peter Dickson is irreplaceable, he must also be replaced. It's not going to be easy, but we've come up with a list of eight people who could possibly lend their voices to the tricky task of introducing various hopeful acts as they pursue their dreams on the biggest stage in Britain...

Footage of Natalia Kills and Willy Moon shocked TV viewers this week - and not just because we discovered where former All Saints star Melanie Blatt is now.
No, Kills and Moon were both fired as judges on X Factor New Zealand after launching a vicious tirade at a wannabe singer, labelling his performance "disgusting" and "absolutely artistically atrocious".
They're not the first ones to completely insult the contestants standing in front of them. It's just that this lot - somehow - got away with it…

In one of the most shocking things we've ever seen on television, Holland's Got Talent judge Gordon Heuckeroth spouted some horrific racial drivel to contestant Xiao Wang during the 2013 edition of the programme.
"Which number are you singing?," he said, moments before Xiao began his performance. "No 39 with rice?"
Even Gordon's fellow judges challenged him on the comment...

Two Overs in The X Factor Grand Finale. Who'd-a-thunk it?
Fleur East and Ben Haenow have beaten off Jack Walton, Stereo Kicks and Stevi Ritchie (oh, behave!) to make it to Wembley tonight.
And although we won't be seeing Andi Peters at the CD printing press (more for shame), we can expect more Louis Walsh, celebratory sausages and One Direction.
Crack out the eggnog and join Digital Spy as we await the news of whether Fleur or Ben will follow the illustrious steps of Shayne Ward, Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson to take The X Factor crown.
Even more exciting than that, we're also hoping for an update on whether Labrinth ever had his wisdom teeth out...
22:01Anyway, that's it everyone! With one last plug for the tour, we're over and out. Goodnight all!
21:59There are too many X Factor finalists there with shaved sides of their heads.

Eight-piece boybands, middle-aged men dressed as Egyptians getting honey rubbed on their chests, Louis Walsh being... Louis Walsh. Yes, this series of X Factor might not have been the most thrilling, but even in a non-vintage year, there has been plenty to laugh at and enjoy.

The X Factor judge Simon Cowell has hit out at former contestant Jake Quickenden's decision to appear on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
Quickenden finished in second place in the jungle after being voted out of The X Factor in the third week of live shows earlier this year.
The X Factor Cheryl denies Mel B tension: 'It's not personal'
Speaking about whether it's important to win The X Factor at today's final press conference, Cowell said: "I think in any competition, if you don't want to win, that tells me you haven't got that killer instinct to do well in the real world, if you're happy to come fourth or tenth and ended up in the jungle..."
As Louis Walsh giggled "Miaow", Cowell continued: "It's not, 'Miaow', it's true. What we want on this show are people who want to be recording artists in the real world.

We're down to our final three on The X Factor - Andrea, Ben, and Fleur, in case you've somehow missed the news - and the final is just days away. Days. But of course the one thing we all want to know is what the winner's single will be - is it going to be a surprise triumph or a horrific failure?
All this speculation got us looking back at the X Factor winner's singles of the past - the good, the bad, the terrible. And, of course, we just had to rank them, didn't we? Read on for our view of how they all stack up...
10. 'Hallelujah' - Alexandra Burke
One thing we discovered when we began this ranking is that the quality of the winner's single is no reflection of the quality of the artist. Take this monstrosity. Alexandra is obviously hugely talented and could have had an amazing first record.

Louis Walsh had some bolts on his neck. Mel B and Cheryl growled at the camera, and Simon Cowell attempted to move his latest round of Botox by raising his eyebrows. Yes, it was a truly horrifying Halloween edition of The X Factor - although perhaps not for the right reasons.
A large amount of the 'Fright Night' special was spent building up the tension about a spooky, scary twist. It was hard to get too excited about the "shocking" twist for two reasons.
1. We were all told about it on Friday. It was on the front page of The Sun, for heaven's sake.

No.1's Week. Movie Week. '80s Week. Zzzzz.
Is it any wonder that X Factor ratings are tumbling when the show's theme weeks continue to be so predictable? Someone is singing 'Listen' from Dreamgirls you say? Gosh, we've never heard that before.
In the spirit of goodwill, we've got some suggestions that might spice things up and get some songs on a Saturday night that we haven't heard murdered 256 times before.
1. Sing Your Name Week
Inspired by the brilliantly named Ben Haenow, who could perform Crowded House's 'Don't Dream It's Over' ("Hey Now! Hey Now!"), everyone has to sing a song connected to their name.
Fleur East can tackle anything by East 17, Stereo Kicks can tackle a Stereophonics vs Rizzle Kicks mash-up, Lola Saunders can tackle the Kinks classic, Jack Walton could attempt 'Hit The Road Jack' and Only The Young could murder 'We Are Young'.

It's been four years since Simon Cowell was last on the X Factor panel in the UK. In his last series, he introduced the world to One Direction, the ratings were sky high and his show was the only thing people talked about on Monday morning at work.
He returns, after having his Us version of the show flop and dumped, to find that The X Factor is no longer the dominant force in British television.
BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing now reigns supreme in the ratings war and the tabloids and British public seem more interested in melting frozen Alaskas and Mary Berry's opinion on soggy bottoms than his reunion with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini behind the judges' desk.
Series 11 of The X Factor is the biggest challenge that Cowell has faced since he first controversially launched the show, spinning off his new found superstar status on Pop Idol.

The actor has become the latest celebrity to retire less than gracefully, joining Shia Labeouf in his very public break-up with fame
No one wants to be a celebrity any more. Alec Baldwin has retired from public life. He's done with it. Indeed, he has so emphatically had enough that he has penned a break-up letter to his own fame for New York magazine. His 5,000-word farewell concludes with an expression of sympathy for Shia Labeouf, who announced his own desire to leave the limelight by donning a paper bag bearing the words: "I am not famous any more." Even Jennifer Lawrence might be sacking it off for a while, according to Harvey Weinstein. But is it possible to just disappear? Well, actually, yes. Here are four proven ways to ditch the burden of being famous:

On Sunday night's results show, the final seven X Factor acts awkwardly shuffled their way through Take That's 'Never Forget'. Aside from reminding me of sticky-floored nightclubs, university rugby teams bellowing the lyrics and Athletics' Union foam parties, the track was also an appropriate goodbye song for this week's eliminee, Sam Callahan.
How could we ever possibly forget little Sam? Hard-working, a full package and a voice like a cheese grater being dragged down a blackboard.
> Sam Callahan: 'The X Factor isn't a singing contest'
After stomping over Dean Martin in Big Band Week, wheezing through 'Relight My Fire' in Disco Week and annihilating U2 in Movies Week, it was George Michael that got the Callahan treatment this Saturday as the acts all tackled songs from the Great British Songbook.

Former 'X Factor' winners including Shayne Ward and Matt Cardle have been snubbed from the show's 10th anniversary. The reality singing competition will celebrate its 10th year on air later this month by having the latest crop of contestants perform songs by past success stories - such as One Direction and Leona Lewis - but some of the show's less successful winners will not be part of the special weekend of shows at all. According to The Sun newspaper, none of the pop hopefuls will sing songs by winners Steve Brookstein (2004 winner), Shayne (2005), Leon Jackson (2006), or Matt Cardle (2010). A...

Nile Rodgers has worked alongside David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Madonna. He is the pop mastermind behind Chic. And he's proved this year that he's still got a magical musical touch thanks to some work with daft mask-wearing, French dance geniuses Daft Punk.
In short, Nile Rodgers is a genius.
So how do we, the great British public repay Nile Rodgers? How do we repay the man who gave us the joyous beauty of 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times'? We repay him by making him play as the backing band for Dermot O'Leary's dance moves on X Factor. Shame on us, Britain. Shame On Us.
Introduced as 'a producer to the stars', Nile is now performing for Louis Walsh and a frazzled-looking Nicole Scherzinger. His reward? A piercing, insightful and engaging interview from Dermot O'Leary. "So [Nile], what are you doing at the moment?" Erm, maybe not.

With the release of the Paul Potts movie and news that Susan Boyle will soon be immortalised on film too, here are the reality TV biopics we'd really like to see
The future of cinema is here, and it's got lots of films about TV talent show contestants in it. Following One Chance, the surprisingly well-received biopic of Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts, plans are now afoot to make a similar film about Susan Boyle.
This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. After all, they're both stories about plucky down-on-their-luck everypeople who dared to dream and finally made it big. It's the same story as Rocky, or The Karate Kid, or 8 Mile, but with faux-operatic wailing and Amanda Holden instead of rap battles and Mr Miyagi. The stories of Potts and Boyle couldn't be any more cinematic if they tried.
So now the floodgates are open. The race...

A miscast James Corden lip-syncs his way through this offkey biopic about Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts
Paul Potts was an overweight bloke who fought bullies, bad health and bad luck to chase his dream – to become a professional opera singer. Thanks to a triumphant appearance on Simon Cowell's TV show Britain's Got Talent, he made it. Good for him. But now Potts's true-life story is rehashed in this treacly, tepid heartwarmer in which he is played by overdog comedian and Premier League ironist James Corden. It is weird miscasting: the only thing they have in common in size. It's like seeing Ricky Gervais play Susan Boyle.
As a comic, Corden is a natural-born killer who generally goes for the laugh like a bull terrier, and it is odd to watch him solemnly lip-sync the opera stuff and try to suppress his natural swagger and strength to impersonate someone vulnerable and anxious.

Steve Brookstein has expressed his disappointment that The X Factor hasn't included him on its upcoming Greatest Hits album.
The singer won the first series back in 2004 under the guidance of Simon Cowell, but has since fallen out with the Syco boss and has frequently criticised the talent show.

Gary Barlow casually announced his intention to quit The X Factor midway through an assessment of Rough Copy's cover of Phil Collins's 'In The Air Tonight' on Saturday evening, providing a rare flicker of excitement in a weirdly uneventful opening weekend for series 10's Live Shows.
After three years as the head judge on the ITV talent show, the Take That star has decided to hang up his mentoring boots and head back to touring and piano-tinkling as a solo act and with Mark, Howard, Jason (and possibly Robbie).
His track record on the show isn't much of a CV to brag about (Cocozza, The Maloney, Craig bloody Colton), but Barlow's serious-face has been a useful ying to the bonkers yang of Louis Walsh and co.
So who can possibly fill his boots when series 11 (yes 11!) rolls around in 2014? Here are our five best guesses.

Making X Factor predictions is always a foolhardy exercise. Two years ago, we said
Little Mix would come last. Three years ago, we tipped Nicolo Festa to make the top 4. What on earth were we smoking?
However, we're never afraid of making fools of ourselves at Reality Bites so once again we're bravely drawing a line in the sand and sticking our necks on the line (and various other clichés). Keep reading for our predictions on where the X Factor Final 12 will finish.
12th - Miss Dynamix
The curse of the girlband was smashed up by Little Mix two years ago, but we reckon they're the exception that proves the rule. If anyone can name all three members of Miss Dynamix, we'll bare our buttocks in Oxford Street, and it's that complete lack of recognition that means the group are doomed. All isn't lost though, just look at the careers of Kandy Rain,...

Steve Brookstein, the first ever winner of The X Factor, has taken aim at judge Gary Barlow.
The former singer, who won the reality talent show in 2004, suggested that Barlow had been hypocritical over who's in charge of contestants' careers.
Brookstein tweeted on Friday (August 30): "One minute Gary Barlow tells Cowell not to mess up Leona Lewis' career, the next he says it's an artist's own fault if they don't succeed.
"Gary Barlow reminds me of a 1950s film star doing cigarette adverts for money. "Mmm They taste delicious and they're good for you!"
Speaking at the series 10 X Factor launch the day before, Barlow argued that the success of acts is ultimately down to them.
"After the competition is over they go off to Sony and we have no control over that. And the point is neither do Sony actually," said Barlow.

Sharon Osbourne has been criticising Justin Bieber's recent behaviour, describing the singer as "lost" and being as mean as a "f**king kitten".
The outspoken X Factor judge continued: "It's like, pissing in a bucket. It's like, 'Oh, we're the bad boys!' F**k off! You don't know what bad is. And I think that he's lost, I really do. I think he doesn't realise he's white and not black - that's a huge problem.
"And, at the point he's at in his career, it's so dangerous because we've seen it all before a million times. Where do you go when you're a child entertainer and then you want to transition to be a man? Very few make it."
We take a look at some other stars who have been the subject of Osbourne's famous tirades - from Lady Gaga to Susan Boyle - below.

Will David Walliams finally kiss Simon Cowell? How many times can Amanda Holden cry in one week? Why isn't there a dancing dog on the bill? There are lots of questions hanging over this week's Britain's Got Talent Live Semi-Finals and hopefully we'll get some answers over the next six days.
The first semi-final this evening features the usual smattering of singers, dancers, oddballs and Wtf-are-they-doing acts, and as always Ant & Dec are challenged with holding the whole thing together while a circus of tears and tantrums surrounds them.

All the signs point to Sharon Osbourne being announced very soon as a new judge on this year's X Factor.
Simon Cowell is not known for his radical thinking (Mel B and Dannii Minogue appear to be on a constant conveyor belt around his various Got Talent and X Factor franchises) and bringing back his old pal Shazza, who he sat alongside on the panel for the first four series, looks close to set in stone.
Bringing Shazza back has some obvious plus points: Nostalgia. Fuzzy memories of the good old days when Si, Shaz and Lou-Lou larked about on Saturday nights.
Osbourne is never publicity shy, so the X Factor hype machine can keep rolling. And whichever unfortunate soul ends up sat next to her (Scherzinger? Tulisa? Gary?) can expect a regular ear-bashing, some fierce glares and possibly a drenching in water if they step out of line.

When did primetime fluffy Saturday night TV suddenly turn into an evening of music industry A&R mechanics?
At some point over the last decade's long slog of Pop Idols, Britain's Got Talents, Fame Academies and nine series of X Factor, the emphasis switched from light entertainment to record sales.
Watching recent series of X Factor, it's occasionally felt like we were watching a meeting between record execs rather than a glossy family TV spectacle. The fearsome annihilation of cruise ship warbler Christopher Maloney by the producers and judges felt like a tipping point in the show's history as the singer's crime of being 'not very cool' seemed to excuse no-holds barred treatment of the blubbering Liverpudlian.
When the voting results were revealed, it turned out that Maloney had been topping the votes since week one. Despite a hammering from the judges and all the cool credentials of tattooed grumble-guts James Arthur,...

James Arthur. Jahmene Douglas. Christopher Maloney. The X Factor 2012 Final Three have been revealed. It's certainly not the final three that anyone predicted way back at the start of the Live Shows. "I speak to Dannii a lot, I was having lunch with her last week, she's been so supportive of me. I can genuinely call her a friend and I love her to bits."
In a sweep, Matt Cardle puts paid to any ideas that bonds built within the 'X Factor' have a shelf life as long as the credits. He also cites fellow 2010 contestant Aiden Grimshaw as someone he sees regularly, although it seems the prospect of sharing a pina colada on Mr Cowell's yacht are dim and distant.
Matt Cardle is determined to have a musical life after X Factor
"He is Sony and Syco, and I am no longer that, so we have essentially gone our separate ways," explains Cardle crisply. "But we never hung on the phone and chewed the fat. He's an extremely busy man, very interesting to be around. I hope he's well,...

Too much sunshine. A post-Olympics slump. Not enough singing. Louis Walsh's hair. There have been a lot of explanations for the slump in X Factor ratings at series nine, but none of them totally add up yet. The show has pretty much been the same as every other year, and the only real difference appears to be more singers with guitars and a few troubadours flogging their own songs, rather than covering Etta James's 'At Last' for the 456th time. Tonight's show added weight to Gary Barlow's assertion that the Overs category (who haven't won since Steve Brookstein crooned to victory in series one) might be the ones to watch this year. Melanie Masson proved that age shouldn't be a barrier on the TV talent show, as the mum-of-two landed the plum episode finale spot. Elsewhere, Joseph Whelan looks like one to watch (more)...

ITV unveiled its 'Whose Time Is Now' promo last month, featuring Leona Lewis, One Direction, Olly Murs, Alexandra Burke, Jls and Little Mix talking about their success since the show. McElderry, along with fellow winners Shayne Ward, Matt Cardle, Leon Jackson and Steve Brookstein, were not included in the commercial. "I'm not on Simon's [Cowell] label so I wouldn't expect him to promote me," McElderry (more)...

One Direction, Leona Lewis, Jls and Little Mix all feature in a new promo video for the X Factor, singing the show's praises.
The former contestants on Simon Cowell's talent show star in the new clip, documenting how it launched their careers.
Of course the less successful contestants from the show and those who have come out to condemn it, such as Steve Brookstein and Matt Cardle, are not featured in the video.
Olly Murs says: "Every time I went out there on a Saturday night I thought 'God this is the best job ever.'"
And Leona Lewis tells how the show was a "big learning experience" for her, while One Direction say they felt like "the five luckiest guys on the planet".

Gary Barlow will face an ''uphill battle'' mentoring the Over 25s category on this year's 'X Factor'. The Take That singer has been tasked with trying to find the first winner from the section since Steve Brookstein triumphed in the first series of the ITV1 talent show in 2004, but he's not a fan of ''joke acts''. A source said: ''Gary doesn't like joke acts and the Overs category is often full of novelty acts. ''In the past, when Louis has mentored them, the public got used to jokey acts like Wagner Carrilho and Johnny Robinson. ''Gary is preparing himself for an...

Gary Barlow has reportedly been assigned the over-25s group in the next series of The X Factor. He has the task of mentoring those selected and attempting to guide them towards victory in the competition, the first for an over-25 entrant since Steve Brookstein's win in the first series in 2004. The Sun reports that Simon Cowell personally rang the judges and assigned them their categories. Louis Walsh has the Groups category, Tulisa Contostavlos will be mentoring the Girls and Nicole Scherzinger will look after the Boys. A source close to (more)...

Steve Brookstein has responded to accusations from Simon Cowell that he is "ungrateful" and "selfish". Cowell reportedly blasted the first ever UK X Factor winner during a recent charity event, claiming that he was the worst person he'd ever had to deal with on the talent show. The Syco boss allegedly branded Brookstein "horrible, ungrateful and totally selfish". Brookstein was famously dropped by Simon Cowell just eight months after winning The X Factor. His debut single 'Against All Odds' and first album Heart and Soul both went to number one, but the two fell out over the direction of his second record. The singer has always claimed that Cowell would only release a second album of covers with him and that he was more interested in X Factor runners-up G4. He has also accused the tabloid (more)...

The online video sharing site of choice for many independent content creators and the internet’s self-proclaimed “place to discover the best in original web series, from professional and up-and-coming producers” just secured another round of financing. Blip (which Tubefilter readers already know has a shiny new logo and is to be no longer known as blip.tv) announced it closed a $12 million round of venture capital from existing investors “including Bain Capital Ventures and Canaan Partners, and debt from Silicon Valley Bank.” Part of this is old news. We told you about Blip raising $6 million from the aforementioned investors back in December, but the additional $6 million in debt wasn’t disclosed until recently. The new investment comes at a time when Blip is still on the search for a new CEO, but seems to be doing a-okay without one. Chief Operating Officer Steve Brookstein reports 2011 revenues were up 100% over 2010 to total $10 million,...
