I will admit it – when I heard that Owen Wilson had agreed to voice the latest canine-heavy, animal synced cinematic production, I feared the worst. For me, Marmaduke felt like it had the potential to be the final nail in Wilson's career; a career that in recent years has seen Wilson fall from one of Hollywood's unique stars to just another member of its problematic back catalogue. However, after watching Marmaduke and enjoying all that this film has to offer, I feel I owe Wilson et al an apology.
Based on the longitudinal cartoon strip first drawn by Brad Anderson in 1954, Marmaduke tells the tail of the Winslow family and their loveable – if not graceful – Great Dane, aptly named Marmaduke. With his awkward presence and clumsy nature, Marmaduke struggles to fit in with other dogs; but when the head of the household, Phil Winslow, accepts an offer to front a...

Excel Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have released the live-action movie Marmaduke directly on Blu-Ray and DVD in India. The movie did not have a theatrical release in India hence directly premieres on home video.Marmaduke is based on Brad Anderson's popular comic strip. The film centers on a rural Kansas family and their pets - a Great Dane named Marmaduke (voiced by Owen Wilson) and a Balinese named Carlos (voiced by George Lopez). Marmaduke's owners, a married couple relocates from Kansas to Orange County, California. ...

When it comes to movie adaptations, the overriding complaint centers upon a lack of faithfulness to the subject matter's soul or fundamental quality. So, it comes as a somewhat refreshing surprise that Marmaduke does not disregard or defame its origins; at least, it couldn't possibly do so any more than the ongoing charade that originated in 1954. Indeed, no movie based upon this drooling Great Dane could ever give the finger to an audience quite as well as "artist" Brad Anderson, who has somehow maintained a lucrative livelihood by drawing an endless series of isolated panels depicting a huge, clumsy dog that wreaks havoc upon his surroundings. If only we could all be so lucky to merely pantomime the same concept in a handful of different ways and never find ourselves forced to move beyond the profundity of "Str-r-r-r-etch Plop!"

This weekend Fox trotted out the PG-rated Marmaduke, yet another talking animal movie aimed at kids and voiced by celebrities.
As if it’s necessary for the Great Dane to sound like anyone in particular, the once reliable actor Owen Wilson has sold out again. But Instead of wrangling an incorrigible canine, as he did in Marley and Me, Wilson is the dog. What a cute twist that… ah, nevermind. I can’t even feign interest.
An adaptation of the long-running comic strip by Brad Anderson, this 90-minute chore lumbers through the same worn humor of the 50-year single panel cartoon. Scatological humor, pet puns, and humans yelling “Marmaduuuuuuuke!” merge together for a comic movie much worse than Garfield.
There are an infinite reasons not to see this excrement, the most obvious of which is there are much better ways to entertain toddlers for an hour and a half than...

“Marmaduke” is what it is. That simple phrase truly signifies nothing, but it conveys so much about “Marmaduke." “Marmaduke” is a kids film and a film about a rambunctious dog. It doesn’t make too much effort in connecting with adults in the audience. The main focus is on small kids who like fart and urine jokes. “Marmaduke” is based on a long running comic strip by Brad Anderson. In it, Marmaduke does not speak. The humans are the ones that speak for him. The movie though does give a voice to Marmaduke in the form of Owen Wilson. Wilson must love dog pictures because he just did “Marley & Me” two years ago that inexplicably became a hit. The process of giving animals a speaking voice has not progressed at all since the great family film “Babe." The technique was actually used much better there than in “Marmaduke." In “Marmaduke...

It’s tempting simply to note that director Tom Dey bookends Marmaduke with fart jokes, and leave it at that. Dey’s cinematic adaptation of Brad Anderson’s widely tolerated comic strip about a giant, awkward dog is meant for kids. Kids love dogs and fart jokes. The goods are being delivered to the target audience. All others should look away. But leaving it there would mean ignoring the full, awkward flavor of the movie, which opens with the eponymous dog speaking in the voice of Owen Wilson about the difficulties of being a teenager. Whether he means he’s ...

“Marmaduke” is a loud and lowbrow talking-animal flick based on Brad Anderson’s 56-year-old comic. It’s difficult to imagine any but the youngest and most toilet-gag-friendly of audiences taking this CGI/live-action mongrel home from the pound.
Like Anderson’s iconic pooch, Marmaduke is a rambunctious, appetite-driven, affection-starved monster who alternately delights and infuriates the young, upwardly-mobile Winslow family. Unlike the old Marmaduke, this one speaks through digitally-enhanced jowls and has a painfully acute awareness of his own big-dog shortcomings.
Luckily, Marmaduke’s family is the most conspicuously even-tempered group of Midwesterners we’ve ever seen: Dad Phil (Lee Pace from “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”) is a bright-eyed pleaser who never met a pair of pressed khakis he didn’t like; mom Debbie (Judy Greer, wasted) is the sensible type who spends her days gently rebuking Phil; and kids Barbara (Caroline Sunshine) and Brian (Finley Jacobsen) were...

20th Century Fox has released the full length trailer for Marmaduke, the big screen adaptation of the Brad Anderson-created comic strip. The Last Airbender
Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit...

Now this is a drive-in movie if ever there was one! Owen Wilson voices Marmaduke, the clumsy Great Dane from the comic strip by Brad Anderson. Unlike some of the other talking animal comedies out there, they decided not to go the full CG route for the dogs, which is probably a good thing. As far as the voices go, maybe it's just me, but Owen Wilson doesn't seem to fit such a big dog. Fortunately, I can probably overlook that, because check it out... that dog's actually wearing sunglasses! Classic! From the twist on Phantom Planet's "California" to the tag line that refers to him as "The Duke", this teaser trailer is a real masterpiece. Marmaduke is directed by Tom Dey (Failure to Launch, Shanghai Noon) and also stars William H. Macy and Judy Greer, plus the voices of Steve Coogan, Ron Perlman, Jeremy Piven, Emma Stone, Damon Wayans and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

The next iconic comic character to leap off of the printed page and onto the big screen is not some super-powered wonder, but rather a Great Dane with an inclination for incidental mayhem. Director Tom Dey (Failure to Launch) brings the classic comic strip Marmaduke to life in a live-action/CGI hybrid that sees Marmaduke (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his family relocating from Kansas to California. The new teaser trailer is light on content, but it sets the tone for what is sure to be family-friendly entertainment. The Marmaduke comic strip was created by Brad Anderson in 1954 and is still being published today.

While presenting the new teaser trailer for Marmaduke, Dustin noted this could be the end of Owen Wilson's career, as though the next time we see him he'll be joining his brother Luke in those At&T commercials. Why am I sharing this with you? For one, it's movie news. Two, it might keep you away from it if you were ever considering watching it. The Marmaduke comic was just flat out not funny. It might have a lot to do with the change in humor. Brad Anderson debuted the unruly dog in 1954. Owen Wilson does the voice of the Great Dane, who finds it hard to be a huge teenage mutt. Hollywood celebrities can't compete with the canine stars of the Fido awards for dogs in cinema
In Hollywood, awards season is already in full swing, although it's at least three months until the Oscars ceremony. The big news so far is that, in a year in which the Best Picture category has been extended from five nominees to 10, the scaling down of the big studios' specialty divisions has led to the inevitable consequence of there being significantly fewer awards-worthy pictures.
Such concerns were far from the minds of the dog lovers who attended the third annual Fido awards, honouring canine excellence on the big screen, held yesterday at London's BFI Southbank. Who cares about the impact of the fiscal crisis on Hollywood when tails are still wagging on the big screen?
There may no longer be film franchises to rival those family friendly staples Lassie and Rin Tin Tin, but...

Owen Wilson has signed to voice the title pet in Marmaduke, the Great Dane of the long-running comic strip in an adaptation for Fox and New Regency. It will be live-action combined with CGI animals.
Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy are playing humans, and the rest of the animals will sound like Fergie (”The Black Eyed Peas”), Emma Stone, George Lopez (let me guess, a chihuahua?), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, and Damon and Marlon Wayans. Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon, Showtime) is directing.
Did no one see Garfield? Even Bill Murray regret that. (Side note: this is much better.)
The plot will be based on the Brad Anderson comic strip created in 1954, so they’ll have 55 years of canine humor to mine gold from. It must be nice to have a job where you can scrawl out a year’s worth of awful dog jokes and sit around the rest of the 364 days.

What is it with Owen Wilson and movies about dogs? Last year, Wilson joined Jennifer Aniston in the heart string-yanking, super-melodramatic dying dog movie Marley and Me, and now THR is reporting that he'll be voicing the rascally Great Dane Marmaduke on the big screen. Based on the popular comic strip that was created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, with a script by Tim Rassmussen and Vince Di Meglio (License to Wed, Smother), this live-action/CG movie will follow a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes. It will see the title character "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace." Tom Dey (Failure to Launch, Shanghai Noon) will direct the feature, with Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy making up the human cast...

A film adaptation about a beloved Great Dane deserves a great cast and 20th Century Fox has been compiling such a group right under our noses. We.ve heard that the live action/CG-animated film based on Brad Anderson.s comic strip Marmaduke would feature Judy Greer as Debbie Winslow and Lee Pace as Phil Winslow, but Coming Soon has dug up the details on the rest of the cast and it.s pretty impressive. Here it goes: Amanda Seyfried voices Mazie, Jeremy Piven is Bosco, Ron Perlman is Chupadogra, Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Guiseppe, Stacy .Fergie. Ferguson is Jezebel, Steve Coogan is Raisin, George Lopez is Carlos and Damon Wayans Jr. is Thunder. Yes, the cast is terrific but don.t get ahead of yourself. A star-studded voice cast doesn.t always mean a hit. Does anyone remember Battle for Terra? Probably not because the film only pulled in just...

Apparently, 20th Century Fox has covertly found most of the voice cast for their upcoming movie based on Brad Anderson's popular comic strip Marmaduke , which will be a mix of live action and CG-animated creatures similar to Fox's previous family hits Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks . Directed by Tom Dey ( Failure to Launch ), the movie was shot in Vancouver over the summer and is currently scheduled for a release on June 4, 2010. To date, only Judy Greer had been mentioned to play Debbie Winslow in the movie, while Lee Pace from "Pushing Daisies" is playing Phil Winslow, but a small throwaway piece in Variety about Anjelah Johnson joining the cast, mentioned some of the voice cast and with a little more searching around, we found a very long list of those...

20th Century Fox has signed director Tom Dey (Failure to Launch) to develop a big-screen adaptation of "Marmaduke," based on the Brad Anderson-created, decades-running newspaper comic strip about a mischievous Great Dane who lives with the Winslow family, in 1954. The big dog then appeared in several animated episodes of "Heathcliff" and "Garfield and Friends." The studio declined comment on any specifics for the feature because the project is in the early stages of development. But Fox no doubt registered the huge response to the Fox 2000/Regency Enterprises 2007 hit "Alvin and the Chipmunks," directed by Tim Hill. The family comedy, which mixed live-action human characters and CG-animated rodent protagonists, grossed $358 million worldwide. A sequel, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," is in production for a Christmas Day release. The studio hasn't yet decided whether "Marmaduke" will be live-action, animated or a mix.
