"You're mistaking dreams for memories..." "These aren't dreams." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for the film State of Consciousness, a mysterious psychological thriller from filmmaker Marcus Stokes. This already premiered at a film festival in Italy a few years ago and was released in Italy last year, though is only now opening in the US - starting in March for those curious. The 2022 edition will be the first in-person class of the workship since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Wbtv Directors’ Workshop launched in 2013 with the aim to discover new and innovative talent, to prepare directors from other creative fields for the transition to television, and to provide increased opportunities for women helmers and those from underrepresented groups. Since its founding, the Directors’ Workshop has helped to launch or further the TV directing careers of more than 60 women and/or people of color, according to Wbtv.
This year’s class was instructed by directors Bethany Rooney and Stacey K. Black.
Prior Directors’ Workshop graduates include Bola Ogun, Stacey Muhammad, Pamela Romanowsky, Marcus Stokes, Jennifer Phang, Alexis Ostrander, Sherwin Shilati, Michael Goi, Antonio Negret, Jude Weng, and Jaffar Mahmood, among many others.
The following participants, culled from more than 650 applicants, comprise the Class of 2022:

Italy, the European country initially hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic, is weathering the second wave well with film and TV production chugging along at a relatively healthy pace thanks to efficient safety protocols and government incentives.
Culture minister Dario Franceschini has just trumpeted a fresh injection of cash to support production, upping resources to fund the Italian tax rebate from €400 million ($474 million) to $652 million for 2021 while raising the incentive’s cap from 30% to 40% of a local production’s budget. The tax rebate is Italy’s main tool to combat the rise in economic costs and risks caused by coronavirus.
The Italian culture czar has also announced plans to double available backlot space at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios and to bring in millions of euros in new resources as part of a revamp of the famed facilities, where several substantial U.S. studio productions are expected to set up camp next year.

Warner Bros Television Group on Tuesday revealed the 12 directors selected for the 2020 Warner Bros Television Directors’ Workshop, which will be held virtually this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The redesigned program has been condensed into two weeks (from the usual nine) of online learning, with lectures led by co-teachers Bethany Rooney and Mary Lou Belli along with various showrunners, directors, cinematographers and editors. The practical directing work normally done on Warners’ sets will now be done using co-habitating actors, with the directors work with them remotely.
The program launched in 2013 with the aim to directors from other creative fields for the transition to TV, and to spur equity and inclusion by providing opportunities for female helmers and those from underrepresented groups. It has seen 100% of the graduates from the past four classes go on to direct episodes of Warner Bros–produced series. Alums include Pamela Romanowsky, Marcus Stokes, Jennifer Phang,...

Despite how I personally believe The Flash‘s sixth season hasn’t gotten off to the greatest of starts, there’s still much potential to be tapped – at least in the eyes of this writer. Aside from how “Crisis on Infinite Earths” will change the Arrowverse landscape forever, it’s worth noting how two big bads will menace Central City this year, effectively dividing the season in half.
Although we don’t know what sort of evildoer is coming to town in 2020, it’s been well established that Bloodwork will confound the Star Labs crew in the immediate future. So far, we’ve seen him only in his civilian guise of Ramsey Rosso, but it won’t be long before his monstrous persona takes over.

Although there’s not always a guarantee of it, TV shows will tie into major holidays from time to time. When Smallville was around, the producers confirmed that the network sometimes mandated that Valentine’s Day or Halloween must be observed during a certain season, and I’m instantly reminded of the classic Supernatural episode, “A Very Supernatural Christmas.”
Speaking of Christmas, it seems like the Arrowverse is virtually guaranteed to check off that box each year. Then again, the December holiday often coincides with its midseason finales, so it’s probably often incorporated so that we get the sense of the show unfolding in somewhat real time.
When it comes to The Flash specifically, it’s now looking like Halloween won’t go unnoticed in a few weeks, as the official synopsis for “There Will Be Blood” indicates:

Graduates from Warner Bros. Television Group’s (Wbtvg) Directors’ Workshop class of 2019 are all ready to sit in the director’s chair. All participants of this year’s program have booked directing assignments on upcoming episodes of a Wbtvg series. On top of that, two of the directors have gone on to secure additional assignments — before even helming their first episode.
The Wbtvg Directors’ Workshop looks to discover new and innovative talent, prepare directors from other creative fields or the transition to television, and spur diversity and inclusion by providing increased opportunities for female directors and directors from ethnic minority groups. Thrilling as the current season of Arrow has proven to be, fans who grew accustomed to seeing Oliver Queen flanked by other costumed heroes on the streets of Star City have probably felt like something important’s been missing. In fact, I have to admit that I’d like to see such a thing again after being spoiled in the years prior.
From the look of it, we’ll slowly but surely get there again. Don’t forget, Dinah Drake is putting her Black Canary mask back on for the upcoming Birds of Prey-inspired “Lost Canary,” and John Diggle, meanwhile, will apparently do likewise not long after.
Thanks to executive producer and showrunner Beth Schwartz, we’re able to admire the cover to episode 5×19’s teleplay. As you can see in the image found below, it reveals the title to be “Spartan,” which is certainly good news for fans of that persona.

It really wasn’t that long ago when we were all speculating the identity of the new Emerald Archer in Star City. Fortunately, she was unmasked before Arrow took its winter hiatus. Then, when the show returned with its midseason premiere, we learned that her name is, in fact, Emiko Queen.
Since the big reveal, Oliver has done all he can to get to know his estranged sister. Still, it’s been a struggle, because she was forever hurt by their father running out on her. But to the delight of Ollie, she’s slowly gaining the ability to let him in.
From the look of it, the aptly titled “Brothers & Sisters” may see some sort of occurrence force the two to accelerate their timetable by working together on a case. If that ends up being true, I wouldn’t want to be the criminal forced to contend with two Green Arrows.

Okay Cicada, I might officially be a little scared of you now.
After a disappointing mid-season premiere, The Flash Season 5 Episode 11 reminded us why it’s the number one show on its network.
At least, for the most part, it did.
“Seeing Red” was the first episode that really dedicated the entirety of itself to developing Cicada’s persona, and 11 episodes in he’s finally living up to his name.
For someone who was described as the “scariest serial killer of all time,” Cicada wasn’t exactly following through with the actual being scary part, and while that's partially due to Chris Klein’s portrayal of the character, the blame also goes to the writers for not spending enough time developing his antagonistic side.

By now, I'm sure it's been well-documented that we here at S&A want to see more directors of African descent working with the sci-fi genre, so I'm always on the alert for films that meet that criteria... like this one, from Marcus Stokes, a short film titled The Signal, which stars Michael Ealy. In a world saved from a global energy crisis by a new form of wireless power, an ex-scientist turned fugitive must save the city from the fatal side effects of his own invention The film was executive produced by Ealy's Think Like A Man director Tim Story, and co-stars Grace Phipps of Vampire Diaries fame. Watch the 8-minute piece below:...

We've got a really cool sci-fi action short for you to watch today. It's called The Signal, and it was written and directed by Marcus Stokes. The film stars Michael Ealy from the upcoming J.J. Abrams series, Almost Human. This is a really solid short film that I think a lot of you will enjoy. Here's the short synopsis:
2046. A new energy source, created to solve the world's energy crisis, is believed to have deadly side effects. When The Signal's inventor chooses to help a girl warn the public, he gains an unlikely ally to help rid the world of his own creation.
The short was shot in downtown Los Angeles over a weekend. It obviously took much longer to do the special effects in post production. This is definitely a something I'd be interested in seeing more of, so hopefully Stokes gets the chance to to keep the story going.
