Candolim (Goa), Dec 31: Electronic dance music (Edm) is all about dazzling audio-visual experiences featuring thumping rhythms and pulsating lights, but the final day of Vh1 Supersonic ended with heartfelt emotions when Tony McGuinness of English dance music group Above & Beyond concluded the festival with his spiritual performance.
The inaugural edition of the Edm fest ended here Monday night with classic tunes by McGuinness that propelled the music lovers to groove together and feel the calmness of music that was kind of "group therapy" for many.
"I would have missed the serenity of music had I not been here..

Taken as a trio, Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki go by many names. They're principally and best known as Above & Beyond, the trance group behind worldwide genre hits like "Sun & Moon," but they're also the maestros behind the widely adored Anjunabeats compilation series and the newly christened Group Therapy radio.
It's in these latter two roles that the thirteen-year veterans of dance music have most recently made waves. On Monday, Above & Beyond released the Anjunabeats vol. 10 compilation, which starts with the group's "Small Moments" before running through over 30 exclusives and rare tracks. It follows the group's model: music fit for both dancing until morning and working all day at one's desk.
A&B fans are familiar with Group Therapy as the group's brand for full-production live shows (Grant, McGuiness and Siljamäki brought the party to New York in February), but it's now also the name of their radio show.

A year ago, nearly every music website and magazine was publishing trend pieces tracking the explosion of electronic dance music in America. Fast-forward to the present, and nearly every general interest magazine and website is publishing similar stories, with the added clarity of hindsight.
But for Above & Beyond, a trance DJ and production trio known for melodic compositions and a deeply personal connection with their fans, none of this is news. Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki have been creating dance music for over a decade, releasing three studio albums, two remix albums and countless compilations and singles along the way. The cumulative affect: a devoted following that numbers in the millions.
Festival-goers and office-earbud ravers alike are familiar with the group, whose Trance Around the World radio show draws tens of millions of listeners each week. The trio is coming to New York this Labor Day weekend for two sets at Electric Zoo,...

Above & Beyond have cast Steven Berkoff in their new music video. The acclaimed actor stars in the clip for 'On My Way To Heaven', which features Richard Bedford. "Someone told me recently that the lyrics to 'On My Way To Heaven' sound like a Shakespearean soliloquy set to music," said the band's Tony McGuinness. "It's a wonderful thought, and very flattering. So the idea of casting a well-known Shakespearean actor in the video (more)...

Recently, Atlanta Mc Young Jeezy put out his much-awaited Thug Motivation 103 album's latest single, "F.A.M.E. (Fake Ass Muthaf---as Envy)," featuring closing bars by a back-in-the-game T.I., online, and since then, the song has been viewed more than 160,000 times and has been heavily commented on.
Ironically, the song, in which Jeezy and T.I. both call out hateration and envy, has been met with a smidge of criticism, though judging by the type of folks leaving the comments, it should come as no surprise.
In fact, the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced song is based around a 2005 trance-music classic, Above & Beyond vs. Andy Moor's "Air for Life," which features vocals by Carrie Skipper.

For Above & Beyond, and their loyal following, these are exciting times. With Miami's annual Anjunabeats party on the horizon (at the Ice Palace on March 24), and their highly anticipated second studio album, Group Therapy, out in June, 2011 is shaping up to be a massive year for the U.K. trance trio. The album's first single and video, "Sun & Moon," recently hit the Web, and MTV News had the chance to catch up with one third of the collaborative, Tony McGuinness who gave us a little insight into the story behind song.
"It was written about the same girl [Katy] that a lot of our early songs were written about," McGuinness told MTV News. "It was a contender for the OceanLab album [Sirens of the Sea], but for many reasons, it didn't make it on. It's...

For trance legends Above & Beyond, inspiration can come in many places — perhaps from a memorable gig in a tropical corner of the planet, or from a loyal fan they've met along the way. However, in the case of their new video for "On a Good Day (Metropolis)," it was a story printed in a British news publication that drew their attention to the amazing Urban Community Farms Projects popping up in the Detroit — including the Georgia Street Community Gardens, which also served as the setting for the new clip.
"There's been a revolution of food in so many ways," said Tony McGuinness, one third of the trance music collective of Motor City's new commitment to sustainability. "We became aware of the Detroit Urban Farms project from Paul Harris' article in The Guardian and I found it extraordinary."
A short time later, McGuinness met with group members...

Fresh off of last month's Winter Music Conference in Miami, British trance trio Above and Beyond have a big year to look forward to. Not only is their summer calendar stacked with tour dates across Europe, but they are currently working in the studio on another album. We spoke with members Jono Grant and Tony McGuinness at Wmc, who let us know that third member, Paavo Siljamaki, was busy in London overseeing both the production of the new album and the birth of his second child.
Though it doesn't seem U.S. fans will get to see Above and Beyond spin stateside at all this summer, the boys assure us they do enjoy their shows here and are consistently impressed by the ever growing crowds that come out to see them while on tour here.
"We've found that we can go to almost any town in America...
