Bengus (1970) is a Japanese illustrator, character designer, and game creator. Blood type B, male.
He uses several pen names, including Mido Shiido, CRMK, Holy Homerun, Peppy O'Hair, Pokkemon, Stamp Rally, and Monkey Kick.
Since 2009, he has also been designing animation characters under the pseudonym Cheese Gouda. Influenced by Leiji Matsumoto and Akira Toriyama, he started drawing at an early age. After graduating from Nihon Kogakuin Hachioji Vocational College, he joined Capcom Co.
He created the backgrounds for Dungeon & Dragons: Tower of Doom (1993) and Alien vs. Predator (1994) and was recommended by Akira Yasuda, who highly praised his drawing ability, to join Capcom's Design Department for "Super Street Fighter II". He was in charge of promotional illustrations for the "Vampire" series, the "Street Fighter Zero" series, and others. His style differs depending on the work, and his touch varies so much that at first glance it looks as if it were drawn by a different person. In Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 (2000), he did some of the character illustrations with the touch of Shinkirô (the faces were modified by Shinkirô). In analog, he uses Liquitex and marker-based drawing materials; in digital, he uses Photoshop.
He appeared in a video for Capcom Club members (the making-of commercial episode for Street Fighter Alpha 2 (1996)(Street Fighter Zero 2)).
In addition to Leiji Matsumoto and Akira Toriyama, he lists Kunio Ôkawara, Mamoru Nagano, Yukito Kinoshiro, Shinobu Ohtaka, and Wataru Watanabe as his favorite characters and mech designers. He also lists Moriharu Kamiya (Vanillaware), his classmate at Capcom, as a person he respects and Dragon's Crown (2013) as his favorite work.
His favorite bands are AC/DC, RAVEN, Ramones, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Venom, and his pen name comes from the guitarist Bengus of the AC/DC tribute band "AB/CD."
