BBC Radio 4 will scratch your sci-fi itch with a whole season of programming including Ray Bradbury, Kafka, and original comedy and drama…
Escape the rapidly unfurling dystopia outside by tuning into a season of sci-fi on BBC Radio 4. Dangerous Visions, the BBC’s yearly dose of classic and original sci-fi radio programming, returns this week… with a difference. The nation being sorely in need of a laugh, Dangerous Visions 2017 has made the decision to include some comedy alongside the existential nightmares.

First up on the comic side of things is a version of Kafka’s absurd satire The Metamorphosis starring Tim Key, Tom Basden and Felicity Montagu. Alongside that is original dystopian comedy Perimeter, a tale of two siblings living in a city divided by an enormous electric fence, written by and starring Liam Williams and Josie Long.
A new reading of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is joined by two original dystopian dramas, Siege and Culture. The former is a three-part thriller telling the story of the Far Right coming to power in 2020 France, while the latter is a vision of the world in which antibiotics have stopped working and the lives of those without medical insurance are decided by the shadowy ‘Quartermaster’. Finally, there’s an adaptation of Arthur Koestler’s 1940 totalitarian nightmare Darkness At Noon.
The season kicks off on Saturday the 24th of June with Kafka’s Metamorphosis at 2.30pm. Here's a short clip to whet your appetite.
All episodes will be available to listen to on BBC iPlayer for a period after transmission and the full listings can be found here.

Peep Show returns in rude health for its ninth and final (for the time being) series...
This review contains spoilers.
9.1 The William Morris Years
So, here we are… back with the El Dude Brothers for one final ride aboard the perennial train wreck that is their lives. Mark and Jez’s graceless swan-dive into mutually-assured destruction has been entertaining us since 2003, making it the longest-running comedy in Channel 4’s history. With the final leg underway, one can only wonder what protracted social crucifixions writers Sam Bain and Jesse Amstrong have cooked up for the duo in the episodes to come. Alex Horne spent a whole year setting silly tasks for his mates for an hour's worth of fun at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010 and 2011. Now, he's bringing Taskmaster to TV with the help of Greg Davies and Dave.
The award-winning comic will sit aside Davies in the comedy game show. "I'm sort of the Nick Hewer to his Alan Sugar," he told Digital Spy. Frank Skinner, Tim Key, Romesh Ranganathan, Roisin Conaty and Josh Widdicombe will be the unfortunate stars who have to endure their crazy ideas.
"It was entirely meant to be a bit of fun, I quite like doing an extra show while I'm up in Edinburgh because I think it's such a good chance to do something with other comedians," he said. "Someone did say after 'ooh that would work well on telly', and I didn't really think they were right, because telly normally can take the fun out of something,...

Developed from Alex Horne's popular Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows, the comic is joined by Greg Davies as they dish out ridiculously silly challenges to five comedians.
Frank Skinner, Josh Widdicombe, Roisin Conaty, Tim Key and Romesh Ranganathan will all appear on the upcoming game show, to find out who among them is the most multi-talented comic.

Comfortably broadcasting at North Norfolk Digital alongside Sidekick Simon (Tim Key), former chatshow host, Bond enthusiast and Bouncing Back author Alan Partridge is one of the leading lights of North Norfolk Digital. But when media conglomerate Glendale Media (their emptiness exemplified by meaningless motto ‘The way you want it to be’), takes over the station and instigates a revamp, Alan’s job is in jeopardy. Driving gloves in tow, the hero of the ‘Wales of the East’ convinces the new board that dinosaur DJ Pat Farrell (an excellent Colm Meaney) is the best culprit for redundancy, with a succinct argument – ‘Just Sack Pat’, scrawled in red marker pen on a flip chart.
Later, Pat reacts violently and besieges the radio station, demanding that Alan’s appointed as chief hostage negotiator. It’s time for Norfolk’s favourite son to forget about his Nandos Efficiency System, Roachford sing-alongs and radio discussions...

TV's former King of Chat Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) is now comfortably installed as a daytime DJ in broadcasting backwater North Norfolk Digital. However, he's thrust back into the media spotlight when sacked colleague Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney) takes twelve hostages in a desperate protest at the station being taken over by a corporate conglomerate. British TV's finest comedy creation sublimely makes the transition to the big screen in a hilarious outing that sees the return of put-upon Pa Lynn (Felicity Montagu), clueless Geordie Michael (Simon Greenall) and long suffering sidekick Simon (Tim Key).

The TV-to-film adaptation, written by Armando Iannucci, Neil Gibbons, Rob Gibbons and Coogan, will be called Alan Partridge Is In Alpha Papa and open in UK cinemas on August 7.
Alan Partridge Is In Alpha Papa will centre on the hapless radio host seeing his station North Norfolk Digital being taken over by a giant media conglomerate and renamed Shape. Events take a dramatic turn when Alan is drawn into an armed siege that takes him across Norfolk.
The title, a suggestion in the teaser from Sidekick Simon (Tim Key), refers to the radio call sign for Alan's initials AP.

Alan Partridge is finally set to get his big screen debut this year with the release of The Alan Partridge Movie. Steve Coogan is of course back as the titular character, and we’re looking forward to the film’s theatrical release this August.
Filming began of The Alan Partridge Movie earlier in the month, and has been filming down at Cromer Pier for a few days over the weekend. The BBC were on hand to give us a little set report / video, which gives us a great little look at Coogan himself, armed on the pier.
*Warning: Slight Spoilers Lie Ahead*

The Alan Partridge Movie has added some more names to its steadily growing cast, with Colm Meaney, Anna Maxwell Martin and Sean Pertwee all signing on. No word as yet on who they will be playing, but the trio join an existing cast of comic performers including Tim Key (Sidekick Simon), Phil Cornwell (Dave Clifton), Felicity Montagu (long-suffering Pa, Lynn), Simon Greenall (Michael) and Nigel Lindsday (who appeared as different characters in Mid Morning Matter and I'm Alan Partridge). The film will reportedly find Alan battling for...

I Give It A Year picks up where a lesser rom-com would leave off.
You know, the kind that usually stars the likes of Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler, Jennifer Aniston or Ashton Kutcher. A guy meets a girl and they really don’t get on. In fact, they pretty much hate each other. During the course of the film they irritate each other more and more, until something magical happens and they begin to think that they might even like each other. When all is said and done they’ve fallen in love, and despite how little they initially seemed to have in common, by the end of the movie they’re together and we’re left to assume that they’ll live happily ever after.
A movie like that could very feasibly serve as a prequel to I Give It A Year. We meet Rose Byrne’s Nat and...

It takes a brave soul to withstand the preening ego and catastrophic presence that is Alan Partridge, but a batch of actors think they have what it takes. The Alan Partridge Movie has added Sean Pertwee, Colm Meaney, Anna Maxwell Martin, Monica Dolan and Dustin Demri-Burns to its already bulging cast roster. The Partridge film, which was written by Steve Coogan, Neil and Rob Gibbons, Peter Baynham and Armando Iannucci, is now shooting in Norfolk under the gaze of director Declan Lowney (a veteran of Father Ted, Little Britain, Cruise Of The Gods and, more recently, Chris O’Dowd’s Moone Boy).Though much of the plot is being kept quiet, we do know it’ll follow Partridge's attempts to resurrect his broadcasting career "while negotiating a potentially violent turn of events at North Norfolk Digital Radio". Die Partridge, pehaps? Those newcomers should get a quick introduction to Alan’s...

Review Louisa Mellor Feb 8, 2013
From the writer of Borat comes a UK rom-com starring Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne that's much funnier than it is romantic...
When it’s not making you laugh, Dan Mazer’s I Give It a Year isn’t doing much else. By design, the central relationship’s not one to root for, and the film’s love quadrilateral barely leaves an impression once you’ve left the cinema. It’s good news for Mazer’s film then, that it’s very funny.
Since Hugh Grant quoted David Cassidy at a bemused Andi MacDowell in 1994, UK wedding comedies have become an institution to rival marriage itself. Aptly, in a week that’s seen marriage conventions on their way to a long-overdue update, along comes a film to shake up the rom-com in turn.

When Steve Coogan's return to Alan Partridge in Mid-Morning Matters was announced, we had mixed feelings. Yes, it was Partridge, edited by Armando Iannucci, featuring the great Tim Key, but why this was going straight on to the web? The proof of the pudding was in the watching though, because some of the series really was up there with the very best of the character. So, to the next Foster's Funny project - Vic and Bob's Afternoon Delights. Have Foster's managed to hit gold twice? You can make your own mind up on July 4 when the series premieres, but for now, here's our thoughts after last week's press screening and Q&A.
"It was just myself, Vic and a cameraman - on the afternoon we'd go fart about basically," Bob explains. "Some of them are just filmed in our offices, we're just making it up. The spirit (more)...

Looking for a new you for the new year? Well, help is at hand. Brian Logan meets a 'motivational life coach' with a difference
The Edinburgh comedy award is held to confer instant greatness on whoever wins it. So, Will Adamsdale, 2004's winner, what are you up to these days? "I'm getting as many people as I can – although it might just be me – to meet up in Trafalgar Square and move London. Just somehow move it a foot."
Adamsdale is talking about his Jacksathon tour, in which he resurrects the character of "motivational life coach" Chris John Jackson. It was this spoof creation, portrayed by Adamsdale in his hilarious hit show Jackson's Way, that won the actor-writer-comedian the 2004 Perrier award. Chances are standup fans have since seen little of Adamsdale, who's better known for his own theatrical works, such as subsequent shows The Human Computer and The Receipt...

Last week we were invited to an event at visual effects and computer animation studio Framestore, which showcased the new cinema advert for LG Electronics 3D TV.
Richard Ayoade (best known for his role in The It Crowd and the director behind the highly-anticipated, upcoming rites of passage comedy feature, Submarine) joined forces with Framestore’s digital team to direct the ad and the end product is a virtuoso, single take, in-camera delight which more than adequately demonstrates the advantages of having 3D in the home.
Designed to inform consumers and ease the confusion around this new domestic technology, a live-action Faq has also been devised (embedded with the advert below). Comedy duo Tim Key and Lloyd Wolf deliver pre-recorded answers through the online interface in response to consumers’ questions.
LG’s vision of using fun and entertaining means of educating consumers was certainly reflected in the package here. Like the advert,...

As we all know, 3D is the Next Big Thing – and seemingly has been for a while. Whilst the third dimension has been implemented into our cinema screens with such enthusiasm over the last year or so as to quickly become something approaching the norm (especially for animated features), 3D in the home is another matter. The uptake on 3D capable televisions has been slow, but LG intend to change that with their new advertising campaign, which consists of an amusing, 3D commercial to be shown in cinemas and a complimentary interactive trouble-shooting video.
The commercial is produced by London-based and Oscar winning visual effects company Framestore and directed by Richard Ayoade of The It Crowd, Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace and The Mighty Boosh fame. It stars up and coming comedian and poet, Tim Key as an affable film director introducing the audience to the possibilities and accessibility of 3D in the home,...

The Bill's series producer Tim Key has promised that fans can expect a "powerful" and "poignant" ending to the long-running police drama. After 27 years on the air, the last ever episode of the show will be screened next week following ITV's decision to axe the programme due to falling ratings. Speaking to Digital Spy about the series' conclusion, Key explained: "I don't want to give too much away, but we looked at ways of respecting the show's heritage and addressing some of those questions that we've been asked about certain aspects of the show. "It's an ensemble piece and all of the cast are in there - they've all got good stuff to do, and I think the last five minutes are incredibly powerful, poignant, respectful and appropriate. I'm very, very proud of that last episode (more)...

The Bill's longest-serving cast member Graham Cole has blasted the decision to axe him from the show. In June, bosses confirmed that the 57-year-old's character PC Tony Stamp was being dropped after nearly 22 years. Series producer Tim Key later insisted that the veteran is simply being "rested". News of the star's departure came following confirmation of the ITV1 programme's revamp as a post-watershed drama airing just once a week. Reflecting on his exit, Cole told The Mirror: "As the longest-serving actor, I was one of the biggest earners and it's no secret that costs had to be cut. "But I've spent nearly half my life on that show. What hurts the most is being axed after all that time so quickly. They've just thrown it all away - bye, you're out the door. (more)...

The Bill's series producer Tim Key has insisted that Sun Hill veteran PC Tony Stamp is simply 'being rested' and will not be killed off when he bows out of the show later this year. Last month, Digital Spy exclusively revealed that actor Graham Cole's character had been axed from the series after 22 years. The news came only weeks before The Bill's announcement that it was to switch to a weekly, post-watershed transmission. Speaking of the decision to rest Stamp, the show's series producer Tim Key told Digital Spy: "The thing with Tony is that we knew it would be a very difficult move for a lot of people. We are hugely respectful of Graham and he's one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. We have every respect for (more)...

The Bill's series producer Tim Key has outlined the changes which the show has undergone to enable it to make its transition to a post-watershed drama. On Thursday evening, for the first time in the show's history, The Bill switches to a new weekly format and will transmit at a slightly later time of 9pm. As part of the revamp, the programme has undergone various practical and creative changes such as a reduction in the cast and production teams as well as new credits, a refreshed theme and a specially-composed musical score. Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the show's reinvention, series producer Tim Key explained: "We've had to do a lot of things and some of the things have been exciting and positive and some of the things have been rather sad and less positive. ITV police drama The Bill makes its highly-anticipated move to its new 9pm home on Thursday, July 23 following a complete channel overhaul. As part of the relaunch, producers have revamped the theme music and credits, introduced a specially-composed score for the episodes and have re-focused the show on character-driven stories. Last week, Digital Spy caught up with the show's series producer Tim Key to chat about the origins of the drama's facelift, the process its been through, what viewers can expect from the 9pm episodes and his thoughts on Graham Cole's departure. How did the reinvention of The Bill come about?
