Nick Oliveri has announced two career-spanning compilations, N.O. Hits at All Vols. 8 and 9, continuing his running series of the same name. Both arrive January 19th via Heavy Psych Sounds.
As a teaser, Oliveri offered up the Vol. 8 opener “Chains and Shackles” — the first official release of a 2010 collaborative track with Slash.
The song originates as an outtake from Slash’s 2010 self-titled album and is finally receiving a proper release on Oliveri’s comp. His unhinged snarls and Slash’s frenetic riffing call back to the stoner-punk that the former contributed to the early Queens of the Stone Age albums. The track was even produced by Eric Valentine, so that sound is definitely there.
“Slash wrote the music and Eric Valentine and myself wrote the words,” said Oliveri in a press release. “I feel the song is hard-driving and it has the right amount of uncensored dirt, filth, sex,...

Acoustic trio Nickel Creek have reunited to announce a new album and release their first new music in nine years. Celebrants, the follow-up to Chris Thile, Sean Watkins, and Sara Watkins’ 2014 release A Dotted Line, will arrive March 24.
The album’s first single is “Strangers,” which revolves around a swift finger-style guitar part and lead vocal from Sean Watkins. The lyrics describe the awkwardness of meeting a long-lost friend after some time. “It’s been too long, stranger/Guess even hard times fly/And leave us speechless in the darkness,...

“I never said I was a saint/I never said I’d be his savior,” sings Grace Potter in the jarringly personal “Love Is Love.” Released today, the song alludes to Potter’s 2017 divorce and subsequent new marriage and is the first taste of the Vermont singer’s upcoming album Daylight, due October 25th.
While thrilling in its musicality, with Potter showing off the powerful voice for which she’s become known, “Love Is Love” is ultimately a challenging listen, as she recounts past mistakes and the notion of infidelity.
