It’s been 470 calendar days since Beyoncé gave her stans an inkling that a Renaissance visual album was coming. In the year following the release of her seventh studio album, the BeyHive relied on their improvisational skills to keep them engaged throughout its nontraditional rollout. Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, filed for divorce from her second husband, actor Richard Lawson, on Wednesday. The two have been married for eight years.
Knowles cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, and listed the date of separation as Tuesday, according to court documents.
Knowles split from her first husband, Mathew Knowles, in 2009 after 31 years of marriage. Originally born Celestine Ann Beyonce, she took Mathew Knowles’ last name and then took Lawson’s, now requesting to change it back to that of Beyonce’s father.
Knowles originally split from Mathew Knowles after finding out that he had been involved with a Scrubs actress for 18 months of their marriage, and fathered a child with the woman.
In the court filings on Wednesday, Knowles also asked to “terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support” to both Richard and herself.

Barack Obama is admitting there is some validity to Michelle Obama‘s gripes about their early marriage.
During a sit-down interview with “CBS Mornings” co-host Nate Burleson, the former president responded to his wife’s comments from a panel last year, where she admitted that there was a 10-year period early in her marriage when she “couldn’t stand” her husband.

Viola Davis, Tyler Perry, Justin Timberlake and Questlove were among the Hollywood notables sharing reactions on social media about Tyre Nichols, who died earlier this month following an altercation with Memphis Police Department officers during a traffic stop in Tennessee.
Body camera and surveillance video of the Jan. 7 stop was released Friday, showing the beating that led to the 29-year-old’s hospitalization and death from his injuries. Included in the footage is Nichols telling the officers, “I’m just trying to get home,” and also screaming for his mother. On Thursday, the five police officers, who had been fired, were charged with murder.
Perry took to Instagram to share a photo of Nichols and describe his own conflicted feelings about whether to watch the footage of the incident. “Many people can’t imagine it happening to them because honestly, it never will,” he wrote about himself initially wanting to avoid the video.

It’s been four years since singer Beyonce’s last headlining show, and her performance in Dubai was a fittingly grand return. The star-studded show began on Saturday night like a theatrical production. Violinists crowned with metallic gold headpieces and voluminous red skirts hit the stage first, and Beyonce’s dancers and more musicians followed in matching garb, standing still with their hands folded in front of the Egyptian-themed backdrop, reports Variety.
As guests at the invite-only, hour-long performance started screaming with excitement, Beyonce raised up on a platform wearing a yellow corseted dress, topped with a feathered skirt and a feathered backpiece.
Fireworks exploded above the venue as the iconic artist opened the show singing Etta James ‘At Last’ into a gold microphone. Then, she announced to the crowd that her mom, Tina Knowles, father, Mathew Knowles, her “beautiful husband” Jay-Z and their children, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter...

When former first lady Michelle Obama arrived at Revolt’s Atlanta headquarters to talk about her new book “The Light We Carry,” she walked into a unique situation.
Not only was Obama sitting down for a candid conversation with a quintet of powerful women of color — Grammy winners H.E.R. and Kelly Rowland, supermodel and activist Winnie Harlow and businesswoman Tina Knowles-Lawson, moderated by radio host Angie Martinez — but the studio was also filled with women of color — from the special’s executive producer Monique Chenault, Revolt’s president of news, specials and documentary, to the talent bookers, crew and PAs.
Needless to say, the vibe on set was markedly different than most.

Halle Bailey can’t help but be overwhelmed by the response “The Little Mermaid” trailer has received since its release at Disney’s D23 Expo last month.

In total, Watko squeezed in 15 references and only received a few groans from her co-workers after she began the report by quipping, “If you’re just waking up, I hope that you had some ‘Sweet Dreams,’ but traffic is getting ‘Heated,’ and it’s starting to ‘Break My Soul’ just a little bit.”

Beyoncé's newest album is especially meaningful to her family. Prior to the release of "Renaissance" on July 29, Beyoncé shared the liner notes, which included a photo of her late uncle seated with her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson. The singer gave her uncle Johnny, also sometimes written Jonny, special thanks for informing her music taste growing up. The day of the album release, Knowles-Lawson reminisced and shared her appreciation for Beyoncé's kind gesture.
"This dedication was beautiful," she wrote on Instagram. Knowles-Lawson was the youngest of seven children and Johnny was actually her nephew, but because they were so close in age, Beyoncé considered him to be more of an uncle than a cousin, which he actually was. In the photo shared in the liner notes, Knowles-Lawson is 38, and Johnny is 40. The two are at a club, and Knowles-Lawson is wearing a dress Johnny made for her. "It's my Lena Horne look,...

Fans are just hours away from finally hearing Beyoncé's highly-anticipated "Renaissance" album, and it's clear this new project hits very close to home for the singer. A day before its July 29 release, she shared a special message on her website and a rare selfie of her and Jay-Z's three kids, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter. In her heartfelt statement, Beyoncé dedicated "Renaissance" to her biggest supporters.
"I want to give a special thank you to Rumi, Sir, and Blue for allowing me the space, creativity, and inspiration. And a special thanks to my husband and muse, who held me down during those late nights in the studio," she wrote. Beyoncé also thanked her "Godmother" Uncle Johnny, whose photo also appears on her website, for being "the first person to expose me to a lot of music and culture that served as inspiration for this album." She concluded...

Magic Johnson Explains Why He Didn’t Watch His Docuseries ‘They Call Me Magic’ Until Its LA Premiere
Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. and his family — wife Cookie, daughter Elisa and sons Andre and Ej — were joined by a star-studded roster of celebrities and professional athletes as they attended the premiere of “They Call Me Magic” at the Regency Village Theater in Westwood on Thursday night.
Directed by Rick Famuyiwa, the four-part Apple TV+ docuseries explores the personal and professional life of the basketball legend, as well as his lasting cultural impact, through a series of interviews with Johnson and his family, friends and fellow athletes.
Johnson’s life and rise to basketball glory was recently depicted in the HBO drama miniseries “Winning Time,” though the NBA champion previously told Variety he was not consulted on the project and had no plans to watch the show.
On the red carpet at the premiere, Johnson indicated that he may have his own plans to create a feature film or miniseries based on his life.

Director Avril Z. Speaks and executive producer Matt McDonough spent the better part of five years pitching their upcoming Discovery Plus docuseries “Uprooted,” which investigates the 1986 unsolved hanging death of Keith Warren, a 19-year-old Black man from Silver Spring, Md. But nobody wanted the project. Then, after George Floyd was murdered in May 2020, Speaks and McDonough began receiving phone calls.
“Suddenly people came out of the woodwork and were interested and wanted to have a conversation about making the series,” Speaks recalls. “We started getting interest from people – some people who we had already pitched the story to. It’s interesting that it took that event for people to understand that our (Black) stories matter.”
The three-part docuseries is one of several nonfiction offerings bowing during Black History Month, including Showtime’s “Everything’s Gonna Be All White” and “Lincoln’s Dilemma” on Apple TV Plus. “Uprooted,” which is debuting under Discovery...
