The moviegoing landscape in Los Angeles has been a little sadder without the return of the shuttered Arclight, but two of LA’s savviest cinephiles are hoping to do something about it. Director Rian Johnson and Karina Longworth, author and creator of the beloved “You Must Remember This” podcast, are pledging $100,000 as founding members of Vidiots, the iconic LA video store and nonprofit film organization. Vidiots is currently undergoing a nine-month renovation at the historic Eagle Theatre in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Their gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 through September 17.
“Given the recent demise or transformation of some of our most beloved places for moviegoing in Los Angeles, it feels more urgent than ever to celebrate and support the rebirth of Vidiots. We hope you’ll join us in helping the women of Vidiots build an inclusive shrine to movies — both projected in a community setting, and preserved on physical media,...

It's taken a while but the How I Met Your Father TV series is finally being produced. Hulu has given the project a straight-to-series order and it will star Hilary Duff. The show comes from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas & Carter Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS back in 2014 but the project wasn't picked up. More than two years later, Aptaker and Berger took a try at it but the pair became unavailable when they were hired as This Is Us' showrunners. Alison Bennett wrote another version but it didn't make the cut either. Now, Hulu has revived the project with Aptaker and Berger as creators, writers, and executive producers. Bays and Thomas will also executive produce and Adam Londy will see as co-executive producer.

How I Met Your Father, a spinoff to long-running CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, is finally set to make it to air.
Hulu has given the project, which will star Hilary Duff, a straight-to-series order from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
It is a long road to air for the project. Back in 2014, Himym creators Craig Thomas & Carter Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS that starred Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver, but it wasn’t picked up.
Two and a half years later, Aptaker and Berger created a new take, but after the pair were elevated to co-showrunners of NBC’s This Is Us they were no longer available. Studio 20th Television tried again in the 2017-18 development season with You’re the Worst writer Alison Bennett, but again it did not move forward.
Enter Hulu.

ABC made some cuts today, canceling Single Parents, Bless This Mess, Schooled, Emergence and the reboot of Kids Say the Darndest Things. Many took to social media to express their disappointment and to say goodbye — and this includes the cast and creators of the shows.
Liz Meriwether, who co-created Single Parents and Bless This Mess, posted a picture of her and Bless This Mess co-creator/star Lake Bell on Instagram and jokingly compared the cancellations to one of the most shocking moments in Game of Thrones history.
“Two shows canceled in one day? I get the message, ABC! This is my broadcast Red Wedding,” she wrote. “But seriously, folks, thank you so much for watching these shows. We loved making them. We loved writing them. I feel so grateful to have been given the chance to work with so many incredible people. Thank you, thank you.”

A handshake likely would have sufficed. After Mike Pence formally accepted his nomination as vice presidential candidate for the Republican party, Donald Trump greeted his running mate with a very awkward air-kiss. The Gop candidate emerged onstage as Pence finished speaking and the two shook hands. Then Trump pursed his lips and seemed to have his air kiss rejected. Pence's teleprompter displayed the stage direction "embrace" just after his final words. Twitter users were quick to joke about the uncomfortable interaction. Get ready for Stephen Falk's universe of narcissists to expand: The You're the Worst showrunner is now developing two more series for FX as part of an overall deal he signed with the network when it renewed Ytw for a third season last week, and he's bringing three of that show's writers along for the ride. One's an untitled semi-autobiographical comedy from Alison Bennett about "an unrelentingly dissatisfied TV writer who returns to her hometown in rural Pennsylvania to live the 'simple life,'" a.k.a. unemployment. Ytw writers Franklin Hardy and Shane Kosakowski are teaming up for Join Me, a comedy based on British writer Danny Wallace's 2003 novel of the same name about unintentionally founding a movement dedicated to random acts of kindness. (In other words, it'll be a spinoff about Edgar's fairy-tale ending.) Falk is set to executive-produce both shows and co-write Bennett's.
