Alright, everybody, you can come out from your hiding places: Sam is on the lam no more!
According to the Associated Press, who reported the story, a 17-foot-long, 100-lb. Burmese python, whose disappearance 14 days ago worried a community in Alaska, is now back home.
Sam, who dined on a 25-lb. rabbit before he went missing in Meadow Lakes, randomly reappeared on Monday in his owner’s living room.
The snake’s owner, David Hyde, said he did not know where Sam spent those 14 days, the AP reported — roof tar marks on Sam’s lengthy body could indicate a possible hideout.

When asked why most of Sid Caesar’s writers were young and Jewish, the late’ great Larry Gelbart replied, “Because most of our parents were old and Jewish.”
The answer to why there were so many Jews in Broadway musicals may not be as glibly succinct, but in Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy, which debuts on PBS on January 1 at 9:30 p.m., the answers are insightful and amazingly entertaining.
Written, produced and directed by Emmy-Award Winner Michael Kantor (Broadway- The American Musical and Make ‘Em Laugh- The Funny Business of America), the 90 minute documentary tries to answer the question of why the Broadway musical proven to be such fertile territory for Jewish artists of all kind, featuring icons from Broadway’s golden age, including Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, the Gershwins, Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim...

Unfortunately Entertainment Weekly doesn't allow for their videos to be embedded so you'll have to click over there to watch what I'm talking about here, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Last week, Wes Anderson revealed a short animated companion piece to his new film Moonrise Kingdom would be coming soon. In the film 12-year-old Suzy (Kara Hayward) carries with her a collection of six books from which she used to read to her younger brothers before running away with Sam (Jared Gilman) on the adventure that guides the rest of the film. Those books she kept with her and even reads to Sam later in the film and now she reads them for us with accompanying animation and narration by Bob Balaban. Anderson considered animating the stories for the film, but ultimately decided to hold on the characters' faces during these scenes, but after the film was made...

If you're one of those people who thinks radio is exclusively for bearded, white wine-guzzling lefties, baristas with ankle tattoos who want to bang Ira Glass, or senile grandmas who keep tuning in to see what will happen on the next installment of The Goldbergs, think again! The radio is for fresh, hip, red-blooded, laugh-loving Americans like you and me, friend, as the recent radio performance of 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer definitively proves. Last Saturday, a bunch of the original cast members of Wet Hot got together at San Francisco Sketchfest to perform a radio play of the movie in front of a sold-out audience. Among the cast members in attendance were comedy luminaries Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, and Joe Lo Truglio. Director/screenwriter David Wain was also present (though co-stars Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde [...]...

Today is the day that Superman ditches the red tights for jeans and combat boots. Starting with a new “Justice League” comic that’s available now, 52 superhero titles by DC Comics will be refit over the next five weeks with new costumes, new creative teams and 52 No. 1 issues.
Called “The New 52” initiative, the move is being championed by DC Comics co-publisher’s Jim Lee and Dan Dido as a way to help bolster sagging sales by updating their aging franchises.

The staff at my regular comic shop wants to know what I think about the DC re-launch. I’ve been shopping there for decades, and I buy DC comics every time I go in there. I don’t only buy DC, but I buy almost everything they publish.
That’s the way it’s been for me for more than 50 years. I’ve liked Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman and the Legion of Super-Heroes for that long. As I’ve grown up, I’ve liked other characters, and I’ve learned to follow not just the heroes I like, but also the writers and artists.
So here’s what I tell them when they ask me what I think: “It doesn’t make any difference to me.”
Superman has relaunched once in my lifetime. I can’t count how often Wonder Woman has been rebooted. The Legion is so...

Director David Wain, who gave us Role Models, is thinking about a prequel to his debut hit, Wet Hot American Summer. That film showcased young comedic talent with stars Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garafalo, David Hyde Pearce, Michael Ian Black, and Molly Shannon, so what’s his plan for a prequel?
“The prequel would be the same summer so they would be 20 years old for the part yeah, but not younger. So it would be 40 year olds playing 16 year olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that.”
Hmmm. Sounds, odd, yet if anyone can pull it off, it would be Wain and the cast. Just don’t go all Hangover Part II on us.

Do you remember the Super Mario Bros movie? Either you’ve erased it from your memory, or failing that, it’s ingrained itself onto your brain forever, like some virtual cattle-brand. It was the stuff of nightmares, a true example of Hollywood at its appallingly naïve worst. They took a game based on a fundamentally light-hearted adventure in which two whacky Italian brothers side-scroll across the screen, jumping on Goombas and eating colourful mushrooms (which explains a great deal)... and turned it into a dystopian B-movie. It had zero resemblance to the game except for the slapped-on character names.
Yet for the changes within the industry itself, Hollywood’s take hasn’t changed a bit. If you take a look at the track record of game-to-movie adaptations across the years, it’s plain to see that the standard has not been raised one bit. Movies like Street Fighter, House of the Dead,...

Sherlock got rave reviews this week, and looks set to win awards. So why is it going out in the dog days of summer?
The overwhelmingly positive response to Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss's drama Sherlock, which started on BBC1 at the weekend, suggests that it will be a strong contender when it comes to this year's TV prizes. If the scripts, direction and Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of a modern Sherlock Holmes continue at the level set by the opener, my own view is that this show may go on to rank as a classic.
Yet many admiring critics have struck the same note of incredulity: why was a show of this quality being broadcast in the third week of July, when British television, run by deputy executives while the real ones holiday in Tuscany or Cape Cod, traditionally resorts to repeats and rejects?
It may be that...

Film, TV, and theater star Cynthia Nixon announced to the crowd of thousands gathered at Broadway Impact's Equality rally in New York City on Sunday, May 17, that she is engaged to be married to her partner since 2003, Christine Marinoni.
"I have a secret to tell you," she told the cheering crowd. "Last month, my girlfriend Christine and I got engaged. And I have a beautiful ring to prove it."
Nixon went on to call for the right for same-sex couples to get married in New York State, and talked about how Christine is a stay-at-home mom to their children, but has no legal right to them if Nixon dies (the children's father and Nixon's former partner, Danny Mozes, is also very involved in parenting them).
